3. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES  3.1. APPLICATION  

This section contains emergency procedures for the Kamov Ka32. The list of emergencies is not all inclusive and is meant to be used in conjunction Section 3 of the Ka32 Flight Manual. Normally Company procedures will be followed over those in the AFM. However, where differences exist between the SOPs, RFM, and CAR’s, the more stringent shall prevail.

 Because of the single engine flight capability of the Ka32, it is rarely necessary to act hastily in the event of an emergency, exceptions being engine failures on departures, and some servo malfunctions. All other failures/malfunctions allow the pilots time to think and analyse the situation. The Ka32 is certified as a single pilot aircraft except for external load operations. All pilots should be able to handle emergencies that require initial actions before referring to the check list as they may be single pilot.

  3.2. DEFINITIONS   LAND IMMEDIATELY / DITCH The urgency of the landing is paramount.

The primary consideration is to assure the survival of the occupants.

LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE Land without delay at the nearest suitable area (i.e. open field) at which a safe approach and landing is reasonably assured.

LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICAL The duration of the flight and landing site are at the discretion of the pilot. Extended flight beyond the nearest approved landing area is not recommended.

3.3. EMERGENCY ACTIONS 

The following sequence shall be carried out in all emergencies: 1) Fly Control the aircraft

Power Adjust to maintain Rotor RPM, and/or single

engine limits.

External Cargo Released from Belly Hook (Electrical or manual)

Airspeed Single engine minimum (70 kts)

Altitude Minimum 500 ft AGL. Lower at pilot’s discretion

2) Identify Caution light, bad engine, handling problem, vibrations, etc.

3) Verify Confirm the failure with secondary indications (gauges, lights, flight instruments).

4) Rectify The emergency procedures are divided into two parts:

Initial Actions - which must be memorized, and

Subsequent Actions - which should be carried out using the Checklist.

Note: 1. The Master Warning light, if illuminated, should be reset as soon as possible

after identifying the malfunction. This will also cancel the Audio. (Normally by the NFP).

2. Radio calls / Squawk 7700 / Passenger advisories shall be made at the

appropriate time depending on the severity of the emergency. 3. During an emergency the flying pilot (FP) will normally continue flying while the

non flying pilot (NFP) identifies the malfunction. Verification and Rectification will be confirmed and agreed upon after consideration of input from both pilots. Checklist actions will be completed using the Challenge and Response procedure.

4. During any emergency that requires switching OFF a system, closing a fuel shutoff lever, throttle to idle or closing a fuel valve the (FP) will ask the (NFP) to identify that switch, throttle or valve before giving instructions on its activation.

5. RESETTING OF TRIPPED CIRCUIT BREAKERS  

The Rotorcraft Flight Manual (RFM) and the Maintenance Manual (MM) procedures and limitations shall be the basis for Circuit Breaker (CB) resetting procedures. General: There is a latent danger in resetting a CB tripped by an unknown cause because the tripped condition is a signal that something may be wrong in the related circuit. Until it is determined what has caused a trip to occur, crewmembers have no way of knowing the consequences of resetting a tripped CB. CB Associated with Fuel Pump Circuit of Fuel Quantity Indicating System (FQIS) Special caution is appropriate where fuel pumps and/or FQIS are involved, because of the possibility that arcing might lead to the ignition of fuel of fuel vapors. The resetting of the fuel boost pump and/or the Fuel Quantity Indicator CBs in-flight is not recommended unless authorized by the aircraft manufacturer, and then only when authorized by the pilot-in-command. The resetting of fuel boost pump and/or Fuel Quantity Indicator CBs on the ground, without first identifying the source of the electrical fault is not recommended. On-the-Ground: A CB tripped by an unknown cause may only be reset on the ground after maintenance has determined the cause of the trip and has determined that the CB may be safely reset. A CB may be cycled (tripped, pulled or reset) where it is required to be performed within approved maintenance inspection criteria, or as part of an approved trouble-shooting procedure, unless doing so is specifically prohibited. If an air operator’s minimum equipment list contains procedures that allow a tripped CB to be reset, then the same cautions with reference to resetting tripped CBs identified elsewhere in this manual also applies. Resetting a CB tripped by an unknown cause should normally be a maintenance function conducted on the ground. In-flight: A tripped CB shall not be reset in flight unless doing so is consistent with explicit procedures specified in the approved rotorcraft flight manual, SOPs, and checklists used by the crew members or unless, in the judgment of the pilot-in-command, resetting the CB is necessary for the safe completion of the flight. Crewmembers should limit resetting of CBs to one in-flight reset where this action is required. No attempt should be made to reset a CB if it trips a second time.

The power of the normally operating engine decreases and power of affected engine does not change in response to collective pitch reduction, rotor RPM remains close to normal. In this case proceed as follows: Shift the throttle lever of the affected engine to position marked by red line. Move collective smoothly to control engine power and rotor RPM. 2. Indications that synchronization system has not been cut out: The power of both engines changes slightly in response to collective pitch reduction, rotor RPM rises. In this case proceed as follows: Move collective smoothly downward to increase the rotor RPM to (99%…103%).Do not exceed the 3 second time limit between 98% and 103%. When synchronization system is cut out the normally operating engine N1 and rotor RPM should decrease. Shift the throttle lever of the affected engine to position marked by red line. GEARBOX 

MAIN GEARBOX OIL PRESSURE BELOW LIMITS INDICATIONS: Master warning light and audio signal on, gearbox oil pressure low light on, oil pressure less than 1.3 kg/sq.cm., possible oil temperature increase. IMMEDIATE ACTIONS: 1. Reduce power and commence emergency descent 2. Reset Master warning light. ( this will also cancel audio) 3. Main gearbox temperature and pressure .............................................. Monitor 4. Radio calls. 5. Descend to the lowest possible safe altitude for flight. 6. Land as soon as possible. SUBSEQUENT ACTIONS: NOTE: Airspeed maximum 70kts. If pressure continues to decrease or noises heard

from the main gearbox area land or ditch immediately.

MAIN GEARBOX OIL TEMPERATURE ABOVE LIMIT INDICATIONS: Master warning light on, gearbox oil hot light on, gearbox oil temperature above 100 C. IMMEDIATE ACTIONS: 1. Reduce power and commence emergency descent 2. Reset Master warning light. (this will also cancel audio) 3. Main gearbox temperature and pressure .............................................. Monitor 4. Radio calls. 5. Descend to the lowest possible altitude for flight. 6. Land as soon as possible. SUBSEQUENT ACTIONS: NOTE: Airspeed maximum 70kts. If main gearbox temperature and pressure beyond

limits, be prepared to land or ditch immediately.
