Kollapur; 4 August: St. Mary’s High School,organized a parents’ meeting in view ofconscientizing parents about the changingpatterns in the education system, value basededucation and preventive system of Don Bosco.

Speaking to parents on the occasion thePrincipal of the school, Fr. Jayaraj Alex,emphasized on the mode of education that ischanging continuously. Standard and qualityeducation should be made accessible to all thestudents of our locality. This is the main objective of the St.Mary’s High School, he said.The Parents expressed their happiness regarding the new changes that are brought in theschool regarding the innovative activities conducted by the Salesians through tuition Centre’s.

Chandur; 12 August: Academic Inaugura-tion for this year with a Prathiba Awards,Freshers’ Day, Birthday of Fr. Nali Anthaiahthe administrator of the house and GratitudeDay. The jubilation of the entire college wasabove the skies. The Principal, staff and thestudents expressed their joy of being part ofsuch an awesome gathering. During thecelebrations the students who scored highest marks were awarded with PrathibaAwards and followed by the gratitude to theformer Principal Fr. Ravulapalem; 16 August: With the Blessingand Inauguration of ‘Surakshita’, the Homefor Women in Distress by the ProvincialFr.Raminedi Balaraju and flagging of theState level campaign by Prof.MadabhushiSridhar, to the celebrations of PARA’s OneHundred Seasons of Journey with DalitBahujans drew to a close.

On that far off day people came streamingin to Don Bosco Mission in fear andapprehension. But now, they came joyouslyto relive a memory, celebrate a journey thatthey and Don Bosco Ravulapalem made overthe years and institutionalized it as People’s

Action For Rural Awakening. On the previousday many of the past colleagues of PARAhad gathered for a “Mutchatla Sayam-kalam” to recall the past. The Blessing andInauguration of “Surakshita” took place inthe presence of Fr. Sebastian .M, the manbehind the relief and rehabilitation effort in1986.

The public meeting at Ekalavya set thetrajectory for the future. The release of theSouvenir –where the children who would nowbe the main protagonists of changes thatPARA intends to strive for, in line with whatchildren are asserting ‘we are today’scitizens’.

Provincial House; Hyderabad 17 August:The Headmaster sand Principals gatheredto discuss on CHILD PROTECTION POLICY,which is the burning issue of the time. In theintroductory talk Fr. Sojan, the Economerand Fr. Vijaya Bhaskar, the Vice-Provincialenlightened all the participants on the topicChild Protection Policy.

Many suggestions and concerns expressedin the meeting in running of the schools andcolleges, and also the Headmasters andPrincipals shared few ideas with regard tothe well running and improving of theinstitutions in the Province in implementingthe Don Bosco’s Preventive System in thisBicentenary year.

Tiruchy; 22 August: Province Secretariesfrom all the Salesian Provinces of the SouthAsia Region gathered for their AnnualMeeting in Don Bosco Provincial House. Thesecretary of Salesian Provincial Conferenceof South Asia, Fr. Noel Maddhichettycoordinated the meeting. The Secretary tothe Regional, Fr. Maria Lawrence and theWeb Master of BIS Fr. Cleophas Braganza,participated in the meeting. The animationsand discussions were geared towardscreating crisis management system in theprovinces and updating and revamping thesecretarial system in the Provinces.

The Director of the development office, Fr.Vincent Thamburaj welcomed the gatheringon behalf of the provincial and the provincialcommunity. A group of Lawyers animatedthe gathering with a panel discussion on thetheme ‘creating crisis management system’.

Hyderabad; 24–30 August: The firstannual retreat of this year of Salesianprovince of St. Joseph was organized in theProvincial House. Salesian, Fr. SwamiVikrant from Chennai province, animatedthe retreat, with the participation of 26Salesians from different communities of theprovince.

The talks were well prepared andinformative; it really exhorted one totransform oneself to experience the Divine.Self-Transformation leads one toexperience God. Starting from happiness tothe meaningful community living thepreacher covered a vast area of topicsassociated to the fruitful Salesian living. Itwas a wonderful opportunity for all theparticipants to prepare themselves for thebicentenary celebrations of the birth of DonBosco. The availability and the sharing ofdifferent mission and apostolic experiences of the conference during the Eucharisticcelebrations and the Good Nights did enrich the experience of the retreat.

“Governance” of the neighborhood. Theybring about significant improvement not onlyto the neighborhood but also to thepersonality of the child. Children celebratetheir success and become more concernedabout the neighborhoods and people aroundthem. It is training to citizenship.

The project implemented by BSK,organizing 40 tuition centers in thepoorer neighborhood slums of thecity of Hyderabad. Afterimplementing the tuition centersto the satisfaction of the parents,BSK is now integrating theChildren’s Parliament activity into

the tuition centers. The teachers were alsogiven training on the concept and theimportance of Children’s parliament. Mostof the learning was done in groups. The childministers were invited to exercise their rightto participation by expressing their opinionon the two days of training.

Ramanthapur; 31August: Past Pupils ofDon Bosco Navajeevan(DBNJ), 45 of themgathered at Don BoscoRehabilitation CentreR a m a n t h a p u r ,Hyderabad premises fora day long get togetherand sharing.

The Director of DBNJ, FrSudhakar said, “PastPupils are the face of theDon Bosco’s Values in theSociety. They carry theValues of Don Bosco asthey move around”. Hecalled on everyone to keep up Don Bosco’sideals wherever they live.

The whole morning filled with laughter asthe comedy team of “Gabbarsingh” movieentertained everyone with their jokes,dialogues, dances and funny comments. Thebest part of the programme was the sharingof their own life stories which were inspiringfor our children. It was surprising to knowthat none of them had passed class X andabout the types of works they had taken upfor their survival before they were introducedinto the movies. Each of them emphasizedthat, the children should make use of theopportunities provided for them at DBNJ andbe ambassadors of DBNJ in the society toencourage those who can support this noblecause.

The founding director of DBNJ,Fr.Maddichetty Noel animated them bysharing his experience as the nationaldelegate for the Salesian Family. He asked

them to keep in mind three things as theylive in the society, namely, to grow up as Godfearing and honest citizens, to give identityto Don Bosco in ones profession and placesof work, and to promote Social Solidarity.He informed that there are about 30 groupswho form the Salesian Family and about 11of them are working in India. He challengedall to make impossible into i’m possible.

They were very enthusiastic in planning forthe coming year especially as the bicentenarycelebrations of the birth of Don Bosco andCrystal Anniversary of DBNJ, are going tobe celebrated. It was also decided that theoffice bearers would meet at least four timesin a year.

The Director of DBNJ exhorted everyone tospeak well of others and not to engage ingossip. He said, would be the best tributethey could give to Don Bosco during thisbicentenary year.

Karunapuram; 31 August: As part of itsannual progamme, but with the addedfervour of the bicentenary celebrations of thebirth of Don Bosco, the Salesian communityof Don Bosco Philosophate organized aYouth Fest with 143 young participants fromthe neighbouring Parishes who treated to arich animation programme on the theme‘Youth for Change’, by the Assistant YouthDirector, Fr. Benny Joseph, of the SalesianProvince of Hyderabad.

All along the day, the animator inspired theyoungsters to be catalysts of change ratherthan mere grumblers and ‘no-doers’ in themodern society, by witnessing the youngpeople offer viable and challenging proposalsto themselves, to address issues likeunemployment, corruption, divisions in the

Parish community, marginalization in thesociety, civil and ecclesial scandal in theParishes, lack of faith and misunder-standings in the family. They had identifiedthemselves prioritized issues that plaguetheir respective parish communities and theneighbourhood.

The youth were invited not only to theinstitution and the programme but also tojourney with the Salesians towards thebicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco. Thebicentenary flag unveiled and a shortpresentation made before the Holy Mass.This Youth Fest planned to involve the youththemselves in identifying and trying outvaried options for issues they face in theirday-to-day life. – BIS Correspondent

Ramanthapur; 7 September:Don Bosco Navajeevan (DBNJ)ever grateful to GeneralElectronics GE employees fortheir generosity and thoughtfulness to donate Dance SuperStation (DSS) on this day andalso for their timely visits and support thatthey extend to DBNJ Homes. This dayremains in the history of DBNJ homes as theManager and Quality Specialist inauguratedDSS.

Mariapuram; 15 August: The day beganwith flag hosting ceremony. The Director ofthe House, Fr. George Jacob was invited asthe chief guest of the day. The group leadersinvited him with police parade followed byMarch Past held according to the group wise.Well prepared speeches on three languagesdelivered on the topic Independence. The flaghosting ceremony concluded with chiefguest’s speech which inspired all. Soon afterhonoring the National flag there heldParents’ and teachers’ Association, PTAmeeting. Parents’ active participationsurprised the management.

Kollapur; The community of Don BoscoMission has begun its mission for the youngin various villages. They have startedcrossing new frontiers for meetingyoungsters and motivating them to formnew groups in their own villages. Under theleadership of Fr Alex and Br Suresh youthmeeting held at Machinenipalli. Almost 40to 50 youngsters were present along withtheir village President and other prominent elders. It was an initiative taken by the localyouth in organizing fraternal meal for all who gathered, with their own contribution. Children showed their patriotic spirittowards their mother India through variousdances, speeches, skits and songs. ThePrincipal, Fr Arogya encouraged thestudents how to foresee the future with aslogan “Never give up for any cause in thelife”.

During the Eucharistic celebration Fr. Rectorintroduced Bi-centenary celebrations andsaid we are fortunate to celebrate our fatherand founder’s birth throughout the year.

Visakhapatnam: The young are fledging toBosco Tech in Sabbavaram, AndhraPradesh, it has opened its doors to a freshbatch of Business Process outsourcing(BPO) students. This is the second batch ofstudents at Bosco Tech, after the institutehaving commenced operation. The Directorof the institute, Fr. Thomas Thottiyilwelcomed all the students.

The ProvincialSr.Annie and theVice ProvincialSr. Valasammaof MMM werechief guests atthe event tograce theoccasion. Theproceedings for the daystarted with the new studentstaking a pledge of conduct, value and dignity,both personal and those of the institution.

Fr. Thomas Thottiyil speaking on theoccasion stressed the importance of BoscoTech in empowering the youth. He cited theexamples of Don Bosco and few actors likeSharukhan who used to borrow Rs.20/- every

Vennela and Vijaya Laxmi students of BPOsummarized the work of BoscoTech in the form a song andunderlined the presenteducation system whereineducation is not available topoor who can’t pay thousandsof rupees. But expressed theirjoy and appreciated Don Boscoorganization for providing freeskill training for their betterfuture.

APPA-Hyderabad; 6 August: An AwarenessProgramme on “CHILD RIGHTS &RELATED LEGISLATIONS” for over 350Women Police Constables in training atAndhra Pradesh Police Academy (APPA)was organized by Juvenile Justice (JJ) AP&Telangana Desk, Navajeevan Bala Bhavan,Vijayawada in collaboration with APPA.

The Executive Director of Navajeevan BalaBhavan, Fr. S. Balashowry, along with StateCoordinator (JJ AP & Telangana Desk)Mr.M.Krishna Prasad Das and Coordinator-Child Rights Monitoring Committee (CRMC)Mr. V. Krishna Mohan, also participated inthis prestigious event at APPA.

The inauguration of the programme alsoincluded the release of “Balala Rakshana”,a booklet specially compiled forthe Police Personnel in addressingthe child rights violations in aneffective manner. Ponnur; 29 August: The School ChildrenMeet was animated by FMA sister, NirmalaRodda – from Yeleswaram. The mainobjective of the camp was on Love for Christand knowledge of Christ. The VocationPromoter Fr. Yeruva Joji was the maincelebrant of the Holy Eucharist whoemphasized on the Sunday mass, confession& Communion. There were 80 children fromvarious substations of our parish, who tookpart in the camp. The magic show and the

The exaltation of thecross is celebrated withgreat reverence to the cross in the morningwith the procession led by the Parish PriestFr. Mariadas, followed by a solemn massduring which the value of the cross were

highlighted during homily.The sign of the cross is‘victory over satan, deathand sin’. We honour crossbecause it brought salva-tion for whole humanity.Let every knee bow downat the name of Jesus andhis cross so that all mayrise to God and share inhis glory. We erected big

cross in the center of the campus with welldecoration by our church youth. The wholeparish participated in this celebration withreverence and devotion.

Hyderabad; 13–14September: Don BoscoYouth Animation(DBYA) - South Asia(SA) Groups andMovements conducted atraining programme forYouth Animators andLeaders in SalesianPedagogy and Forming Youth AnimatingTeams. This Seminar was held at Don BoscoProvincial House, with the activeparticipation of 32 YouthLeaders and YouthAnimators from Tiruchy,Bangalore, Hyderabad,Mumbai and Kolkata.

The Vice Provincial ofthe St. Joseph’s Provinceof Hyderabad Fr.Thathireddy VijayBhaskar, welcomed every participant andenkindled in them the fire towards an activeparticipation of the two day programme.

Fr. Brian Moras, sdb,with his nonchalant yetprofessional bravura,presented the Salesianpedagogy to theparticipants. He stressedon the point that thePreventive System is thesynthesis of DonBosco’s Educative Ministry. That it isSpirituality, Pedagogy and a style of PastoralAction. He put forward the three pillars ofthe Salesian Preventive System, Reason,Religion and Loving Kindness with a personaltouch to it.

The presentation of the Handbook for Youth

Groups and Animators,titled YOUTH SPACES.It presents the Vision,Mission, Objectives andGuidelines for theSalesian Youth Groupsand Movements in India.The 4 step method of theDon Bosco Youth Groups

with 1.Experience, 2.Sharing, 3.Discernment, 4. Action is innovative and verypractical.

This tool, which is aimedat enhancing theinvolvement of youth inSalesian institutions andpresences, presents boththe theoretical and thepractical side ofanimating youth groups.

resources presenttherein. The follow up ofthe deliberations takenduring the DBYA – SAGroups and Movementsmeet held at Bangalorethe previous year.

is a seed which is carried back to theprovinces, wherein implanted and grow tobe a Vibrant Salesian Youth Movement. Thetraining enriched the participants in SalesianYouth Pedagogy and in forming vibrant YouthAnimating Teams and youth groups.

Nalgonda; 16 August: The Bicentenarybirth year of St John Bosco (1815-2015),was officially inaugurated at the newlyerected statue of St John Bosco. The Bishopof Nalgonda Msgr. Govindu Joji was the chiefguest of the occasion. Along with him therewere also many other dignitaries present.The ceremony was attended by over 2000students and almost 1500 students weregiven shoes freely on this occasion. Thecommunity considered it as an innovativeprogramme of the Bicentenary Celebration.

Honorable Chief Guest Msgr. Govindu Jojihoisted the Don Bosco Bicentenary Flag anddeclared open the festive year and alsoreleased the bicentenary year Calendar ofthe community. The Rector of Don BoscoAcademy Fr. Anand, spoke briefly on theBicentenary celebrations that are beingcelebrated all over the world, and alsodifferent innovative activities that thecommunity had taken up as a part of thesecelebrations. The Bishop highly appreciatedthe tremendous work that Salesians aredoing all over the word for the poor andmarginalized youth, in a very special way inthe diocese, through various forms such aseducating the young through schools and

colleges, skill training and job placement forthe unemployed, through DBTechprogramme, and providing safe drinkingwater to the fluoride affected villages of thevicinity. While appreciating the rector, theprincipal and other community members fortheir tremendous services, he urged thestudents to be partners in the mission andbecome responsible citizens of our belovedcountry. After this free shoe distribution took

place and around 1500 students were givenshoes freely as part of the celebration. TheRector advised the students to cultivate thesense of gratitude and generosity andbecome agents of transformation in thesociety.

Let’s Begin With Love and End With LoveNalgonda; 13 Sep-tember: Don BoscoDegree Collegestudents celebratedthe Freshers’ day asthey welcomed theirjuniors with thismotto. The Rector ofDon Bosco AcademyFr. Anand, praised allthe students andwelcomed to join the international family ofDon Bosco. He also thanked all the 1st yearsas they have chosen this college to continuetheir education. He invited all the studentsof new and old to bring the laurels to thecollege with their untapped talents. It wasalso time of grace for us as the Principal Fr.Bala welcomed and greeted all the students

especially the newcomers. He exhortedthem to be successfulpersons and be goodand disciplinedstudents. On thispleasant occasion hespoke highly aboutthe mission that wecarry for the youth ofNalgonda. He also

listed out the great achievements done byour past pupils who brought laurels to DonBosco Institutions. In his address he askedthe students to be hard working and to bepunctual so that they could becomeproductive citizens of tomorrow.

Mothinagar; 21-23 August: A healthy mindin a healthy body, Preventive education weresome of the traits of John Bosco, a greathumanitarian of the 19th century.

Don Bosco community isa huge, family spreadacross more than 133countries. Incommemoration of thisgreat educator, friendand a visionary of theyouth, programmes areorganized across theglobe. The Don BoscoSchool, commenceing the celebrations on 15August by an inter-school footballtournament organized by the past pupils.

Eight Schools participated under 14 and 16age groups. One of the chief refereesMr.Joseph, our past pupil was a state and anational football player. The tournament

concluded withmementos, medals andcups awards undervarious categories.Master Sohail of DonBosco High SchoolHyderabad, was given acash award by Mr. PapiReddy, the coach ofSt.Marks High School,Boys Town. These events

are just the beginning of the celebrations ofthe 200 years of the birth of a great andblessed son of the earth, St. John Bosco.

Mothinagar; 5 September: Re-Union of1985 batch students of Don Bosco HighSchool had taken place on teacher’s day inDon Bosco School.

Past students Shravan and Dinesh came toschool and expressed their idea ofcelebrating teachers day and re-union of1985 batch students with correspondentFr.James Kudiyirippil and HeadmasterFr.Johny Joseph and requested them to bepresent on the occasion. Where on 1September they came to school with formalinvitation where they have invited allteachers who have taught them.

As the past students started coming into thecampus were surprised to see the changesin the campus after 1985. Out of 65 students,55 of them were able to come for theoccasion. One of them Mr. Max came all theway from Sharjah just to attend for theoccasion. Few of them came from U.S.A,others from Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai,Delhi and some other parts of India. Theywere so excited to see each other after 29years and to see their teachers.

After brief interaction among themselves andwith teachers they also had interaction withTV5. The program dress code wasimpressive, all were wearing specially madeT-Shirts, with a Logo DBHS 1985 at the backand name badge in front. Fr. James explainedabout the changes that have taken place inthe campus since 1985. Later he asked themto think about the Bicentenary BirthAnniversary year of Don Bosco and to dosome tangible in memory of the bi centenaryof Don Bosco.

All the past students rememberedFr.Benedict and his services as their HeadMaster. Chakradhar in his address said outof 62 students, 30 are graduates, 15Engineers and a Doctor and the remainingare in business. They honored each teacherinviting on to the stage. During the time offraternal meal lot of interaction took placeamong past students, their families andteachers.

Chandur; 22 September: The Students ofDon Bosco Junior College, have experiencedthe joy to its heights as they celebrated‘DASARA DHAMAKA’ together as brothersand sisters. The whole campus wasbeautified with all the students out in the playground participating in the games.

Nalgonda; 16 September:Keeping in mind the overallgrowth and above all theintellectual pursuit of thestudents, MA TeluguDepartment of PG collegearranged one day visit toall the historical places inNalgonda district. Therewere about 30 studentsvisited the places under theguidance of the Telugu Department faculty.The purpose of the visit is to ignite theknowledge in a different way. They visitedfour historical places namely Panagaluwhich is famous for Kakatiya monument,existing from 12 century. The second isChandubattlaMonument which is 25 kmaway from Nalgonda town, famous because

of the Kakatiya queen byname Rudramadevi died inthis place in the year1239a.c. The third is PillalaMari where big stone wassculptured into amagnanimous temple ofVishu. The fourth isPhanigiri, a place ofBuddhkshetram startedaround 6 Century and is

filled with statues, monuments and otherthings related to Budha’s life. The perfectknowledge is gained only when theory andpraxis is entwined. This is what Don BoscoDegree and PG College is offering to all thestudents, together with the management andthe faculty.

Hyderabad; 21-22September: TheA d m i n i s t r a t o r s ’gathered in Don BoscoProvincial House withthe scope of digitalizingand centralizing theadministration in theProvince. TheEconomer of theProvince Fr. Sojan,welcomed the administrators and theaccountants of our province and introducedthe upgraded accounting package (ACME-ERP). He did appreciate all the efforts putin the smooth functioning of our houses byall the administrators. The presence andactive participation of few lay accountantsadded variety to the meeting. The ProvincialFr. Balaraju, extended a warm welcome toall the participants and exhorted everyoneto be transparent and accountable in mattersconcerning finance and administration.

The Vice-Provincial Fr. Vijay Bhaskar,enlightened the participants on the ‘DonBosco Child Protection Policy’ as a relevantand known factor for every Salesian andthose working in the Salesian Institutions.It was followed by the introduction to thenewly updated accounting software, AcME

ERP, which is anupdated version of theexisting AcME+. Thetwo resource persons,Mr. Alexander andMr.Ramesh from BICS,Yellagiri, put us ininitiating and guidingall the participants inupdating themselveswith the revised version

of the new software. We could see all theadministrators engrossed in keeping

themselves up-to-date. All the participantswere provided with laptops and computersfor the online learning of the software. Theparticipants appreciated the new softwareand resolved to put into practice from thepresent financial year (April 2014 onwards)itself. The participants were givenknowledge on WALLMART and itsfunctioning by the HR Department of thecompany. The DB Tech In-charge of theProvince Fr. P. Arul Das presented the statusof the DB Tech and invited all the otherhouses to explore the possibilities of openingthe DB Tech centers in serving the poor andneedy youth.

Gagilapuram; Hyderabad: Trainingfor youth on RO Technician for onemonth was held in collaboration withTata Projects Ltd., Hyderabad. Twentyyouth from five districts of AndhraPradesh and Telangana, took part inthe training. They were trained for onemonth by the technicians from TataProjects Ltd., They were trained atGagilapuram for one month followed bytwo months of on the job training withstipend given by Tata Project Ltd., intheir center at Medchal. Twelve of thetrainees who successfully completed the training were absorbed by Tata Project Ltd., asR.O. Technicians. We sincerely thank Tata Project Ltd., for their support and collaboration.

Kurnool; 7 September:DBTECH HotelManagement completed 8Batch of their trainingsuccessfully and foundtheir placement in citieslike Bangalore,Tirupathi, Hyderabadand Kurnool. Thetraining was of three

months craft course. The DBTECH staff under the guidance of the Director, Fr.Tom helpedthe young people by arranging various programmes, like spoken English, life skills, basicknowledge in computers, seminars and group Dynamics for their development. Ramanthapur; 19–21 September: “GenderSensitivity Education (GSE) - Training ofTrainers, was organized at Don Bosco NavaJeevan, Hyderabad,by Salesian Familycommission (SFC) incollaboration withSalesian SocialForum (SFF) and YaRForum. This is thesecond of its kindorganized by SalesianFamily Commission, tomark the Bicentenaryof Don Bosco whochampioned the causeof rights of the youngpeople of his times andtook initiatives to provide safe ambient forthe young of both genders.

The fourty participants of the trainingprogramme were educators from theSalesian Family, schools, young at riskcenters, social workers and NGOrepresentatives from Andhra Pradesh and

Telangana. The Director of PARA,Fr.Thomas Pallithanam, with a team of

resource personsengaged theparticipants during theworkshop of GSE.

After eliciting theexpectations of theparticipants theresource personsclarified the conceptsof “Human Rightsand Equity“ throughvarious activitybased programmes.

The High CourtAdvocate Ms. Hemalalitha, dealt with theConstitution, Rights and Laws related toWomen. She highlighted the relevant articlesof the constitutions, types of Rights andissues of Child Marriage, love Marriage,Dowry demands and related matters. Hercrisp and clear presentation with the help ofconcrete examples was well appreciated by

the participants.

Fr. Thomas spoke about theneed to mobilize communitysupport in preventingviolence against women andthe need to accompany thevictims and witnesses invarious cases. He spoke ofthe need to network withother like minded organi-zations to address growingincidents of violence.
