On September 14, the Effingham Council sponsored a Religious Vocations Field Trip for the 5th Grade Students from Sacred Heart and St. Anthony Grade Schools – our 6th trip. The young men with Greg Koester and Rick Johnson visited the Cathedral Basilica followed by a trip to Kennrick-Glennon Seminary for a tour by Seminarian Bill and attended Mass with all of the seminarians. Before and after Mass, the boys were able to visit with Michael Trummer, Dominic Vahling and Michael Meinhart for a few minutes. Michael Meinhart was also able to join us at the ball game. The young ladies with Gerald Will and Barb Carie visited the Daughters of Charity, St. Louise Prov-ince. Sister Mary Catherine Dunn, D.C. and other

Sisters at the Provincial House talked with the girls about their journey to a Religious Vocation and the many things the Sisters do in the name of charity. While they are Sisters. Many of them have “jobs” such as teachers, nurses, administrators or directors of charitable organizations. The girls also visited the Cathedral Basilica for a tour and Mass. The group then took in a Cardinals ballgame followed by a visit to the Knights in Highland for hot dogs and hamburgers and playground time to stretch their legs and burn off some energy. Thank you Highland Knights and thank you to Fr. Edgar, yes he was still helping us put this together, for his help and to the teachers, principals and chaperones who keep everything in order on the trip.

Most of all, A BIG THANKS TO ALL THE WORKERS who collected or counted money and THANK YOU to the members and businesses who helped by “buying” a box of tootsie rolls or making a donation. If anyone one is interested in joining the committee for this program, please give any of the guys a call. While there is some work involved, it is fun work and charity work.
