Dear Friends,Welcome to Grace Notes, Komen Puget
Sound’s annual black-tie gala and benefit to
reduce the burden of breast cancer in our
region. Whether you’re a longtime friend or
this is your first Komen function, we’re so glad
you’re here.
Tonight we have an opportunity to strike a
decisive blow against a cruel disease that
impacts many lives and loved ones. With your help, we are funding
critical research focused on the most aggressive forms of breast cancer.
Just as important, we are breaking down the barriers our most vulnerable
community members encounter when they need quality, timely health
care. Both approaches move us closer to the ultimate goal of fewer lives
lost to breast cancer.
Thank you for sharing our resolve and mission to end breast cancer.
I hope you will enjoy the evening, taking with you not only some
wonderful memories, but also the warm feeling of satisfaction that
comes from helping others.
David Richart
Executive Director, Komen Puget Sound

Event Chair’s WelcomeThis coming St. Patrick’s Day marks the 18th anniversary of my diagnosis of a rare form of breast cancer. I was fortunate that it was caught early during a routine mammogram and most fortunate to have had healthcare coverage.
There are still so many women that fall through the cracks and can’t afford a screening or diagnostic mammogram, let alone treatment. While the cost of a mammogram is still $150, digital and diagnostic mammograms can be upwards of $500. Komen Puget Sound has been in the forefront of meeting these urgent needs as well as working on metastatic research to save lives. Komen can’t do it without your generosity. You can make a difference in a woman’s life through your kindness and support…you can turn someone’s life around.
Tonight is the time to celebrate our Survivor Sisters, reflect on the loved ones that breast cancer took from us and pray we can save more lives. I pray that my daughters, Juliette and Jenine, along with my granddaughters, will be spared a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime.
Your compassion and charity will impact someone who will never be able to repay you. You will never know how many lives you will touch through your generosity nor how many lives you will save!
With heartfelt appreciation,
Jeri “Princess” Worklan-Eubanks 2017 Grace Notes Event Chair

Komen Puget Sound honors its most generous donors with the Circle of Grace designation to recognize their passion for helping others. Each member has a personal reason for donating at this level; ours is to ensure that children and families don’t have to experience the pain and loss of a mother, sister, daughter or loved one to breast cancer.
Members of the Circle of Grace provide resources for lifesaving breast cancer screening and support programs that might otherwise go unfunded. We give real hope to underserved people who otherwise have little or no access to care. For example, in 2015, we were able to provide 9,685 mammograms to women in the Puget Sound area that otherwise would have never been able to afford this essential and critical diagnostic tool. Circle of Grace members also allocate significant funds to research that is focused on aggressive and metastatic breast cancers.
We invite you to join us in the Circle of Grace with your annual gift of $10,000 or more to Komen Puget Sound. Your generous donations will provide immediate and substantial life-saving impacts on local women who are facing this devastating disease, and will help fund research to ensure that future generations and their families will never again be victims of breast cancer.
Sincerely,
Vincent Claudio and Lisa Hammel Co-chairs, Circle of Grace

ITEM NUMBER | 102Whiskey that’s Old Enough to Drink!Grow your collection with these three bottles from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, all aged more than 21 years, making them old enough to drink! Here’s how the Society describes them:
SUBTLE COMPLEXITY: 24 YEAR The nose neat was very soft, gentle and enticing compared to an Impressionist painting creating patches of light with soft pinks and purples. Aromas mentioned were sweet and salty crunch nut bars with honeycomb, a bowl of porridge with golden syrup and chocolate rice crispy cakes. A soft gentle heat to taste reminded us of roast pork in sweet tangy apple sauce. There was the exciting fizziness and juiciness of a Vin Gris with flavors of pear, mango and strawberry – subtle but complex.
JAZZED-UP BANANA SPLIT: 26 YEAR Our inspired musings included sawdust sprinkled on soft fruits (plum, peach, pineapple), dried flowers in wicker baskets, crushed nettles and butter popcorn—interesting nose, enthused imaginings. The palate was sweet (butterscotch, caramel popcorn, vanilla, sweet liquorice), but we also found lively, warm wood tannins, chili jam, fruit schnapps and perfume; hints of gentian and ginger in the finish. The reduced nose offered banana split (including maple syrup, chocolate sauce and ice cream), but all jazzed up by menthol, eucalyptus, lavender oil, potpourri and wasabi.
THE TEXAN TEA PARTY: 31 YEAR The hot air was filled with spicy sandalwood aromas from the sawdust on the floor and the sun-bleached fencing around the rodeo stadium on which perched new leather saddles waiting their turn. A delicious smell wafted from the stand selling vanilla ice cream, marzipan and banoffee pie with oodles of caramel sauce, toffee and custard. Beside the homemade spiced plum chutney stall we were surprised to find mulled wine mingling with oak casks containing Rye whisky and vanilla and coconut infused Bourbon, which after adding a few drops of water became even sweeter and more spicy.

Six Bottle Vertical of Leonetti Cellar CabernetFounded in 1977 as Walla Walla’s first commercial winery, Leonetti Cellar has become one of Washington’s most popular wines. Tonight, take home a vertical of Leonetti Cabernet, years 2008 – 2013.
Start off with the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, providing seductive color saturation to the rim. The nose on the Cabernet Sauvignon captures what makes this one of the world’s finest wine grapes—it is an exotic array of spices, dried herbs, lavender, charcuterie, mocha, cassis, vanilla, and ripe red and black fruits. In the very distant background there is a lovely note of mint. The wine has incredible density, with very ripe tannin that is suave on the palate. The finish is ultra-long and pleasant.
This wine is distinctively Walla Walla and why the valley is becoming an international focal point for Cabernet. Continue through years 2009 – 2013, tasting the difference in them all!

Heads or Tails - Game of ChanceLet’s start the night off with a fun interactive game: Heads or Tails!
Here’s how it works: Each guest has the opportunity to purchase entry to the game, a blinky ring for $50, during the cocktail reception. Auctioneer Fred Northup, Jr. will ask everyone with a blinky ring to stand, then to select heads or tails. Designate your choice by placing your hand on your head for heads, and your hand on your bum for tails. Fred will flip a coin and whichever side lands up, those players continue in the game while everyone else sits down. This process continues. Once the field is narrowed to the last two players, one selects heads and the other selects tails for the final coin flip to determine the winner of our game.
The winner of Heads or Tails will receive a $1,000 Expedia Gift Certificate.

Picasso - Les BanderillesBorn in Malaga, Spain, Pablo Picasso is probably the most famous artist of the twentieth century. During his artistic career, which lasted more than 75 years, Picasso created thousands of works, not only paintings but also sculptures, prints, and ceramics, using all kinds of materials.
Les Banderilles was originally printed as part of a set of four lithographs which accompanied the book A los Toros avec Picasso published by André Sauret in 1961. With dancing figures and hasty lines, Picasso’s illustrations beautifully capture the drama and thrill of the bullfight.

2013 Cabernet Sauvignon PoetryThis is a rare chance to take home six bottles of the coveted (and sold out) 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry from one of America’s most famous and highly regarded wine-growing areas – the Stags Leap District.
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry reveals a rather inky, bluish/purple color. A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, this wine is super-youthful and still tastes somewhat like a barrel sample. It’s bursting with upside potential. Inky purple to the rim, with notes of crème de cassis, black cherry liqueur, licorice, spice and a touch of vanilla, this is a full-bodied, concentrated and utterly profound wine that may represent the greatest wine that Cliff Lede has made to date. Forget it for another 5 to 6 years, then drink it in the following 30 years.

ITEM NUMBER | 8Rare Autographed Rolling Stones GuitarWhen the Rolling Stones began playing gigs around London in 1962, the notion that a rock & roll band would last five years, let alone fifty, was an absurdity.
The Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked them fourth on the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” list and their estimated album sales are more than 250 million. They have released 30 studio albums, 18 live albums and numerous compilations.
Tonight is a rare opportunity to take home the ultimate music collector’s dream: an autographed red Galveston electric guitar signed by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts. This is a piece of music history!

Breast cancer screening can help find breast cancer
early, when the chances of survival are highest.
Screening is important for all women, no matter their
level of risk. Susan G. Komen believes all women should
have access to regular screening mammograms when
they and their health care providers decide it is best
based on their personal risk of breast cancer. In addition,
screening should be covered by insurance companies,
government programs and other third-party payers.
