start now. Just by being nice to people, filling their buckets, or just saying hi, will help promote peace in the world. Story by: Sam Mor-gan and Jimmy Martin.
During the week of October 1st through October 5th, Central School students and staff celebrated Peace Week. Ms. Corsale, the Central School guidance counselor, had high expectations for Peace Week . She believed that it was a time to cele-brate peace throughout the school. Ms. Corsale wanted everyone to learn more about themselves and have a better understanding of other students around them. She hoped during the special week the students would try to do work in our community. Ms. Corsale would like to see all students continue to r e s p e c t e a c h o t h e r throughout the year.
She is looking forward to Peace Week 2013. She would like to have another “mix it up day”, and believes it was a big success this year. She would also like to do more peace lessons in the classroom for all of the students. She is continuing a very successful program called “lunch bunch” and says that it will promote socialization with friends. Ms. Corsale wants to promote peace and positive characteristics.
Peace Week is a nice way to celebrate peace all over our community. Kids can think about being peaceful at a young age. Unfortunately, sometimes many people are not peaceful in this world, so it’s a good thing that they

Did you know that statistics show when children are read to at home they will achieve better in school versus children that are not read to at night?
Reading is a very important skill. Not only will reading d a i l y i m p r o v e y o u r vocabulary but it also expands your imagination. Reading may sound boring to some children but reading at home with your family can be fun and exciting. Parents need to help their children on making the right book choices. Your book choice can either seem like a chore or can be a fun activity that everyone can do
in their free time.
There are many books that are suitable for children of all ages to enjoy. For example, may we recommend the Junie B. Jones series for first grade or younger. Second grade and third grade readers should try Ivy and Bean for the girls and Captain Underpants for boys. Children that age, may also enjoy The Lemonade War. For older readers we suggest these great books: Nancy Drew, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, or Flipped. If you are a middle school or high school student try reading The Hunger Games, The Body
Finder, Number the Stars, or the Harry Potter Series.
If you want to read more think about checking out our local library here in Keyport at 109 Broad Street (corner of Broad and Third). You can also contact the Library Director, Jacqueline LaPolla at 732-264-0543. Story by: Veronica Thiel and Marlana Dant.
were: do not play with matches, have a meeting place, and know where the fire extinguishers are located. He was very excited to speak with the children in our school this year about the fire prevention. The theme he spoke on was “Two Ways Out.” Henry suggests having an escape plan set with your family and understand how to respond in an emergency
What do you know about fire prevention? Our fire prevention commissioner, Henry Young, knows many great safety tips about fire prevention. During the week of October 7th thru the 14th the students at Keyport Central School all learned some excellent tips on fire prevention. In an interview with Henry Young I asked him a few questions about fire prevention week. Some safety tips he recommended

When some of the children first entered Keyport Central School, they were frightened and confused. Until, they met Mrs. Sullivan, the teacher of our 3 year-old program. She does her best to make the children feel warm and welcomed from the beginning of the day, until the end.
Mrs. Sullivan has been working here at KCS for the past 6 years. She expressed that the best part about coming to work every day is
seeing the children learn and grow. The children’s bright and smiling faces arrive at school at 8:30 A.M, three days a week. They spend their 2 hours a day focusing on learning their shapes, colors, letters, patterns, and counting.
Mrs. Sullivan is not only in charge of the 3 year-olds, but also has a class with her highly energetic high school students. The students are extremely helpful and
cooperative. These students will receive a grade for their creativity and participation with the children. The 3 year old program is a great educational head start for the young children. Story by: Jaydah Slack and Alyssa DiGregorio.
