CONNECTEDDIGITAL NETWORK™

DISTRIBUTED RELIABILITY andREDUNDANCYIntegral to the fabric of theConnected Digital Network archi-tecture is the design concept of “distributed liability”—providing multiple layers of redundancy.

Any component failure takes outonly the small section that it serves.Audio in the 32KD is split into multiple TDM buses, each handlingonly 32 channels of audio; a dis-turbance on one bus only affectsthat small group of channels. Twoseparate control communicationbuses between modules and twoseparate clock buses multiply thelevel of distributed reliability.

The 32KD does not use a “DSPfarm;” instead the DSPs on eachoutput card handle routing and mixing for those outputs only.Redundant power supplies are available throughout.

The ultimate failure: loss of theterminal room. No problem. TheRIOLink keeps on going, providingfull Rubicon console control of rout-ing and mixing of all local sourcesconnected to that RIO.

And, of course, SAS router control software provides backupand easy restoration of your entiresystem’s settings.

MainframeThe 32KD is designed for ease of serviceand maximum reliability. All modules andpower supplies plug in from the front; noneed to climb into the back of the rackfishing between bundles of cables.

Modules and power supplies are hotswappable, so you don’t have to take thesystem off-line for servicing or expansion.

Connections are made to passive plug-in rear connector modules, which allowvarious connector configurations to suityour installation’s requirements.

The 21 module slots are truly universal-any module can plug into any slot. Thisflexibility allows for any ratio of inputs tooutputs (in groups of 32), and any combi-nation of support modules.

The 32KD’s backplane supports 1,024local and remote channels.

MCU-32e Frame Controller ModuleThe MCU-32e generates main and stand-by clock, and stores all of the switcher’soperating parameters and custom configu-rations in ultra-reliable non-volatile RAM.No PC required!

It is also the primary control interfaceto the Connected Digital Network: RS232 ports connect the computer runningSAS Server Module and Router ControlSoftware, which is used for system config-uration, monitoring, automation, and back-up/restore. Two RS485 serial ports areprovided as well.

S P E C I F I C A T I O N S

onnectivity, via the fewest number ofcables possible, is the road of future-thinking facility design. SAS is behindthe wheel and ahead of the curve with itsproprietary concept of the ConnectedDigital Network™—the complete system

of audio routing, mixing, distribution, intercom,IFB, and automation.

At the hub of this network is the SAS 32KDDigital Router/Mixer. Connected at the spokesare SAS RIOLinks, Rubicon console controlsurfaces, router control panels, intercom stations, digital storage and delivery systems, production editors, computer controllers, andmuch more.

The SAS Connected Digital Network hasthe features and performance needed todayand the flexibility to adapt as your operationevolves. The SAS Connected Digital Networkis the digital future, here today.
