    1. CONTENTS

    The APC Engineering Specification 70-11, rev 2, "Electrical Instruments Connections" , isan integral part of this specification and is included as Part 2. Changes to the Spec. 70-11are noted by means of the words "SEE ADDENDUM ... (followed by paragraph number)"on the left of the corresponding text.The Part 3 of this specification establishes particular requirements changing the Spec 70-11, keeping the numbering of it s sections and paragraphs. The type of change e.g.addition, deletion, modification or substitution is noted fo r each item.

    RACEWAYS1. Wiring for control and instrumentation. shall be run in overhead in galvanised

    cable tray of material specified and rigid galvanised conduit minimum size 3/4"with threaded couplings.

    2. Trays shall be heavy dut), galvanised deep t)'pe with 9" (230 mm) rung spacing.2.1. Protective covers for cables in trays shall be provide.

    3. Conduit fittings shall consist of CROUSE HINDS candulets or equal or wherelarger fittings are used a metal conduit boxes.

    4. Fittings an d boxes in division 1 and 2 locations when containing arcing equipment(relays ..etc.) shall be explosion proof.

    4.1. In all other cases, vapour tight fittings and boxes shall be used generallyequipped with open gaskets.

    4.2. Wherever possible such fittings and boxes shall be galvanised.4.3. Approved sealing fittings shall be located in conduit systems in accordance

    with code requirements.4.4. Seal fittings , drains, breathers shall also employed in conduit systems as

    may be required to prevent accumulation a condensation or rain.Material for cable ducts shall be ha t rolled steel sheets.

    7. Signal wiring of other systems shall be run overhead in racewa)'s of typespecified above.

    8. \Viring of other systems shall not be run in the same racewa)' with signal wiring.8.1. Where metallic trays are utilised as raceways, thermocouple extensionwires and signal Wires can be run in the same trays if metallic barriers areprovided to separate the two.

    9. Final connection at each thermocouple, solenoid valve, switch or otherinstruments shall be made with flexible metal tubing covered with a layer ofPV C the length of the flexible is 1000 mm at least.

    10. Power fo r instruments shall be supplied through a panel board.10.1. Panel board shall be equipped with single-pole circuit breakers, orfused switches of suitable rating.

    11. An alarm system with contacts which open under abnormal conditions shall beprovided, as required by process considerations.11.1. Visual alarm shall be provided by flashing lights an d audible alarm by

    horn in the control room or explosion proof local panel.11.2. Acknowledge an d test buttons shall be provided or supervisory control.

    12. Automatic shutdowns associated with process instruments shall be actuated byopening circuit.12.1. Provision of a continuous power s)"stem shall be consideredto prevent unnecessary shutdowns and to permit an orderly shutdown in case ofpower outage.
