Happy Holidays! I have been so excited about this issue. Lynzi and I decided that when we launched Jute, that we would do our best not to put our own work on the cover. But after much debate, we decided that Volume IV was going to be our “Jute Christmas” issue. And when you see our spread “Reindeer Games,” you’ll understand why it was cover worthy. We had 9 very handsome, very tall, very buff men surrounding us for a day. That day inspired a new light for us. In fact, tonight we are vesting a male revue “Magic Mike” style. I have my fingers crossed for Santa Speedo’s and Elf Underwear! I wish we could bring you with us! But since we can’t, flip over to the center spread and enjoy Santa’s reindeer. I know I did.

Is it really Christmas already? It snuck up on me this year. It’s a strange holiday season for me this time around. I have to admit, I haven’t been in the holiday spirit like my norm. It has nothing to do with not loving the holidays or my life not being fabulous, but has everything to do with the stress of the holidays. This year I am excited about one thing: sparkles. I’m not focusing on the gift-giving or tradition. I’m thinking about looking fabulous for the holidays and “frosting” myself, so to speak. Who says you can’t spoil yourself for the holidays? I’ve worked harder this year than I ever have before, so I’m treating myself to some fresh fashion and literally dousing myself in glitter for my holiday gatherings and parties. For New Years I’ll go even bigger! The point is that Christmas is a time for giving. The gift-giving part of Christmas is something I look forward to all year, but this year I have learned it is ok to treat yourself just the same. I hope all of our readers have a fabulous time celebrating the holidays, but also remember to celebrate themselves. Make a little bit of that holiday budget for you. Next time you’re shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue for those darn sold out Dolce and Gabbana Sicilian Jewels lipsticks (yes, I had to get them for Kadie) you buy something for your god damn self.

The holidays are upon us. Between the shopping, the eating, the wrapping, and the decorating, we run ourselves a little bit ragged. Yet we still have to ho, ho, ho ourselves up for the endless array of holiday parties we are obligated to attend. As our present to you, we have taken the guess work out of the prep work and brought in make-up artist extraordinaire Julia Nicole Hernandez to assemble three easy holiday looks.

This look is natural and soft. You’re wearing enough makeup to keep your mom off your back about how you are going to ever find a boyfriend if you can’t even manage to find your mascara tube, but yet not too much to have your grandmother yell at you about your devilish ways. All in all, it’s a family win. Start this look by prepping your face with your favorite foundation. Julia Nicole used Madison’s favorite foundation Studio Fix by MAC. Madison likes that you can layer this foundation on areas of your skin that need a little more coverage without it turning cakey. NARS Orgasm was added to the cheeks to give a flushed appearance. Try telling your grandma about that shade!She began the eye with Urban Decay Primer Potion. Using her Stila “In the Garden” palette, Julia Nicole swept Breeze from the lash line to the brow bone. She then used Honey on the lid line. To finish the look, Moss was heavily used to define the crease and give a mild smoke effect. Julia Nicole lined the lid with Tarte Purple Garnet and applied Bad Gal Lash by Benefit to extend Madison’s lashes.

Holiday parties with co-workers can be tricky to navigate. You want to look more done up than normal, but not so much that you get slut-shamed at the water cooler on Monday. This look glams up a neutral eye by adding metallic fun. Megan’s favorite foundation is Tarte’s Amazonian Clay. She loves it’s full coverage and works well with her oily skin. Julia Nicole prepped her skin with this and then used Nars Laguna to bronze her cheeks and give her a glowing look.

To prep the eye, Julia Nicole again used Urban Decay Primer Potion. This time, she chose Sin for its slight shimmer. Julia Nicole used shades from the Urban Decay Vice 2 palette for all of the shadow in this look. She began with Habit under the brow bone. Using a shade lighter than your skin tone under the brow works as an insta-eye lift! She then used Radar across the lid. The look was exaggerated with Smokeout in the crease. The eye was lined with Stila Starfish and finished with a sweep of Bad Gal Lash.

This look is all about the wow factor. After dealing with your co-workers and family for the season, it is time to bring in the New Year right and do some kissing when the ball drops! This look will leave the object of your affection wanting more and wondering “Who is that fabulous fucking face!?”Once again, Julia Nicole used the model’s favorite foundation so that it could be suited to their skin type. Shelby only wears Nars Sheer Matte foundation. The cheeks were then enhanced with Nars Orgasm. The primer used was again Urban Decay Primer Potion. This one is a winner! Julia Nicole started in the inner corners of the eyes with Shellshock from the Urban Decay Vice 2 palette. She then blended Madness into Shellshock, working from the color boarder outwards. An over exaggerated crease and the use of a C shape was used with Poison in the outer corner, once again blending at the borders. This intense look was lined with Tarte Onyx. Finally, the look was completed with a quick layer of Ulta’s Plush Drama mascara.

Perry Rust grew up on a farm near Prosper, North Dakota and became interested in fused glass while living in Gerrards Cross, England, from 2001 to 2003. In a small art gallery there, he found incredible fused glass art by a renowned English artist. Perry insisted to the gallery owner that he meet the artist to learn more of about the art and its process. Several months later, he received a call from the artist and was invited to her studio and gallery in Liverpool to learn the basic of fusing glass. After several trips to the Liverpool glass studio, he decided this was an artistic medium to explore. When Perry moved back to his home near Fargo, North Dakota, he setup an unnamed fusing studio. Perry’s fused glass pieces have been donated to

many nonprofit fundraising events throughout the Fargo and Moorhead area. His idea to fuse glass snowflakes came while stuck at his home during a blizzard. He estimates that over the years he has fused over five hundred glass snowflakes bowls. He uses special fusible glass, and the process he learned in Liverpool to create the pieces. Each one-of-a-kind bowl will take several hours to lay out, and then two to three hours of firing in a kiln firing to fuse the glass at temperatures up to 1,500 degrees. Prices for Perry’s snowflake bowls range from $80 to $1,500. For many years Perry has partnered with the FM Rape and Abuse Crisis Center and the West Acres Shopping Center for a fundraiser called SnowFlakes and Bowls for a Cause. His art is displayed and sold over the holiday season at the West Acres Shopping Center. One-hundred percent of the proceeds go to the FM Rape and Abuse Crisis Center. He also arranges for a match of funds for the first $1,500 of snowflakes sold. The FM Rape and Abuse Crisis Center give a place for these people to go and seek counseling, legal advice, and shelter not only during the holiday season but year around. It is a cause Perry cannot give up on, and he will continue to create glass snowflakes bowls as long as people want to buy them.

Celine Maniu has been modeling for two years now. Her biggest dream is to become Miss America and is running for Miss Washington in 2014. She works with the Seattle Sounders soccer team and is involved with the press box. Maniu made a big step to go to Mexico in the year of 2013 to help build bottle schools for orphans. With her dedication and faith, she believes one day she will make her vision become a reality. Maniu also has been in a few commercials and has some music background. She can speak Dutch, German, Romanian and Spanish. Celine has her CNA degree, Nurse Delegation, CPR and HIV/AIDS. She is also involved with a few MLM markets. Maniu hosted a television show called Tiempo Extra for a few years and then started her own TV show called Seattle in Action. Celine has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and starring in music video's with Shua. Her next step in the music scene is to collaborate with the upcoming Pop star J. Crispy. Celine is currently chasing her dream in the entertainment industry, so keep a close eye on the next big thing!

Andrea Li has been designing jewelry for ten years. She developed a taste for the beautiful and unusual by her weariness of the homogenized market of products that do nothing to promote individuality. Unconventionality has always been central to her work. But just as important it is to push the creative boundaries is the grounding of that avant-garde attitude to something attainable and familiar. She believes that jewelry aside from adornment should be personal. A reflection of the qualities that set us apart and make us unique. It all began by designing pieces for personal wear. The unexpected and consistently positive public response to her work whenever she wore one of her creations encouraged her to evolve her hobby into opportunity. Self taught, Andrea Li has refined her art by taking basic concepts and adding many layers of extrapolation. The element of sublimation in her work over the years is what gives her jewelry its complexity and interesting context. She exercises a hands on approach to the entire process. From the buying and conceptualization to the fabrication of each piece. Hand selecting all the gemstones that will be incorporated in her work with an discriminating eye for the uncommon ensures that all her pieces take on an exceptional quality. Andrea never sketches her designs before the process of creation begins. The stones dictate the direction. The process is precise and intentional yet very organic at the same time. Her sculptural designs are impossible to replicate resulting in one of a kind original pieces of art.
