Justification of images-Front cover

Page 2: Justification of images

Image 1 (Not chosen)

When conducting my photo-shoot, I took four shots which I thought would suite my front cover best. By choosing to take four shots, it enabled me to have an option about which image I want to be on my front cover. I took a variety of different shots, including different camera angles and shots, my front cover

shots consisted of, close up shots and mid shots. From this I was able to analyse what images would be the most appropriate for my front cover and

what would not be the most appropriate.Image 1:

From analysing this image, I decided to ask my model Lydia Hughes to hold a record in which I wanted to be a prop

throughout. From analysing image one it is clear that the record player works

whilst Lydia is holding it. I used a Medium close up shot which showed what Lydia

was doing within the shot which would be easily recognised by potential readers

(being a DJ). However from this image I did not feel

that Lydia would be able to draw in attention to potential readers this is

because, she is looking straight down at the record which could suggest viewers would feel they are unable to relate to Lydia. From this it is evident viewers would not be able to engage with the

magazine and potentially would not want to read the magazine. This lead to me not

choosing this image as my main image for my front cover.

Image 2:

When taking this image I decided to emphasise on my model Lydia’s eyes and her facial expression, this is try and make readers attracted to the font cover from the image. I took this shot as a close-up this is the be able to emphasise on the

Lydia's eyes.

However from this image I did not feel that this would be clear enough that my

magazine is a music magazine which would then lead the magazine to not

actually appeal to the genre I want it to. Although the headphones do clearly

represent music as Lydia's hair is dark in this image it makes it extremely difficult

for the headphones to stand out. This means that the image would be unable to portray the music side of the magazine,

which lead me to not choosing this image as the main image for my front cover.

Image 3 (Not chosen)

Image 3:

When taking this image I decided I wanted to focus on Lydia's serious facial expression. This is to try and emphasis

that within this image Lydia is deep within the music and has shut of the outside

world. This was done to try and express the importance of music within a lot of peoples lives. This is shown through Lydia looking down with closed eyes.

However I believe that this image does not clearly represent music because the headphones are hard to see within this

image because the other side of the headphones have been cut of and

because Lydia’s hair is dark within this image the headphones do not clearly

stand out. From this it makes me feel as though the image does not look

professional enough to be on the front cover of my magazine. Also this would

not stand out from other magazines. This had lead me to not choosing this photo

for my front cover.

Page 5: Justification of images

Image 4 (Chosen)

Image 4:

When taking this image I decided that I wanted to focus on Lydia's face but also

have some of Lydia's body within the image. To do this is used a mid shot at eye level to show the top half of Lydia's body.

Music is clearly represented from the props that Lydia is holding which includes

a record and headphones. These are visibly seen within the image. Also from

Lydia having a serious facial expression it shows that she has gotten lost into the music. However with her eyes looking

straight at the camera this could attract some readers as Lydia appeals that she is

looking straight at “You”. Within my planned photo shoot I stated that I wanted to edit my front cover image “Black and white” I believe that this image will work

when editing. I have chosen this image to be the main image on my front cover as I think this

best represents the music industry. I have chosen to edit this image into

“black and white” I have chosen to edit this way because I believe that on the

front cover this will add more effect and ensure that the front cover is eye

catching. Also with this image being black and white

it reflects on Lydia’s music career and emphasises that Lydia’s music career has

not always been easy.

Image 1 (Not Chosen)

When conducting my photo-shoot, I took four shots which I thought would suite my contents page best. By choosing to take four shots, it enabled me to have

an option about which image I want to be on my contents page. I took a variety of different shots, including different camera angles and shots, my front cover

shots consisted of, close up shots and mid shots. From this I was able to analyse what images would be the most appropriate for my contents page and

what would not be the most appropriate. I have decided that I want to have two images on my contents page so Ii will be choosing two images.

Image 1:

When taking this image the main focus was on what Lydia was doing which was

acting like she was a DJ spinning the record. This is clearly evident within this image and it is shown clearly what Lydia is trying to do. There is also an element

on emphasis on Lydia's face which is shown as Lydia smiling whilst playing the

record. However from this image I feel that this

image would not appeal and stand out on the contents page. Which it is important

that it does stand out as it will show about Lydia's main interview within the magazine. So I have decided to not use this image as it does not clearly show that it will appeal to potential readers

when they are viewing the content page.

Page 8: Justification of images

Image 2 (Not Chosen)

Image 2 :

When taking this image I wanted to emphasis the fun within music, this is

clearly evident within this image as Lydia is shouting with happiness and looks

excited. This clearly represents music as the record player is being spin and Lydia is wearing headphones which show how

Lydia is listening to music. However I have chosen not to use this

image because I feel that the image does not reflect on what the story is going to be on the double page spread. This is extremely important as this image is

going to be used to show what the story is going to be and this image just

represents happiness in music and not Lydia herself.

I have decided not to use this image.

Image 3 (Not Chosen)

Image 3 :

When taking this image I wanted to emphasise on the prop being used within the image which is clearly represented within this image. This image clearly

represents music However I believe this image will not appeal to potential readers because Lydia herself is not visible within this

image so this could be anyone holding the record which may lead to people

believing that this image has no actual importance.

Also this image is used to advertise the main story which is about Lydia however this image does not show Lydia and does

not portray what her story may be. I have decided not to use this image on

my contents page.

Page 10: Justification of images

Image 1: Image 3&4 Chosen)

For my contents page I have decided to use two images, one image will be the main image and

the other will be a little one which will be situated in the corner of the page. I have decided to use these two images (to the right) this is because I believe these will best suite the contents page

and express music.Image 1- This image consists of Lydia holding the record and wearing headphones, this is a close up shot. I believe that this image will be perfect for

my contents page because, Lydia’s eyes are staring directly into the camera which shown an

emphasis in dominance and seriousness. Also the top of Lydia’s lips are clearly shown above the

record, which shows Lydia kissing the record, this shows an emphasis on Lydia's love and passion for music which corresponds with the main story

within the magazine. Image 2- This image consists of Lydia staring

straight into the camera with a smile on her face, although this image is simple I decided I wanted a

small image at the corner of my page, which could then be cropped. I felt this image was the

only image which would be able to be situated in the corner of the page but still draw attention in this is done by Lydia's eyes staring straight into

the camera.

I have chosen to use these two images on my contents page.

I have chosen not to edit this images other than crop and erase their backgrounds because I

believe that if Lydia is not completely edited it will ensure that readers would be able to relate to her

as a normal “Human being”.

Justification of images-Double page spread

Page 12: Justification of images

Image 1 (Not Chosen)

Image 1 :

When taking this image it was clear to me that I wanted a clear image of Lydia playing the record with a smile on her face, which is clear that this image is

showing this. However I do not believe that the

position that the image is in will look professional on a double page spread,

this is because I want my image to take up half of the page and I feel that this would be able to meet the purpose of how I want my double page spread to

look.

When conducting my photo-shoot, I took two shots which I thought would suite my double page spread best, I have chosen that I want one main image for my

double page spread which will clearly represent the story and music. I only took two shots for my double page spread because I feel that I had a clear

mind of what I wanted my double page spread image to be.

Page 13: Justification of images

Image 2 (Chosen)

Image 2 : I have decided that I want this image for my double page spread. I have decided

to use this image because the image clearly represents the music industry through the use of Lydia playing the

record and obviously wearing headphones.

This image also will relate to the main story on the double page spread which is

necessary to have an image to match the story. Also Lydia clearly represents the happiness within listening to music.

This will appeal to my target and express my genre because of the ages 16-19 it is applicable to have some happiness and from this image it shows that happiness

can come from music.

I have decided to use this image for my double page spread.

I have again decided not to edit this image other than ensuring the

background is cropped out, this is because within the interview it is going to be about Lydia and that she explains how she misses her “normal life” and with the images being hardly edited it will express that not everything within

Lydia's life is completely glamorous, but she wants to get back to her normal life

sometimes.
