After taking my pictures, going through them all and then narrowing down my choices, I was able to select the best four images. At the end of the presentation I have selected the image I will use for my Front Cover.

Research behind my poses

Andy Biersack. This is an example of a rock star moving and pausing on stage to look at the audience as they perform

Billie Joe Armstrong’s stance has become one of his trademark poses and is popular among rock musicians across all sub-genres

Mitch Lucker’s facial expression which is recognizable as his performance using screaming/ unclean vocals which is popular in the rock music genre

Hayley William’s performs high kicks on stage as she sings which shows her energy and movement.

Vic Fuentes rehearsing with his guitar. A good pose which doesn't require too much body movement.

Front Cover Images

Advantages:•The models pose seems natural like they are actually playing the guitar.Disadvantages:•There are distractions such as the guitarsIn front of the model’s arm.

1)•This medium shot gets the viewer to focus on the guitar rather than the body language of the model.•I chose to get the model to sit down as it looks as though they are rehearsing a song like a professional musician. •They are giving a smug smile to give appear self confident like a professional musician which is supported by their direct gaze into the camera. •This is representative of those who enjoy instrumental music with guitars or those who play the instrument themselves, through the use of the prop of the electric guitar. The colour red is dark but stands out against the models costume, making the audience aware of the genre of the magazine and the

content.•My image can be reflected through the picture below of a rock star rehearsing with his guitar which makes it seem like a typical thing to be seen doing.

Advantages: •The models pose is looks like they are playing the guitar. •The motion of the foot on the amplifier seems as though the model is moving•Conforms to the rule of thirdsDisadvantages:•The picture is too far back•The models facial expression is not engaging enough.•The lights above are a distraction and corrupt the models image•Most of amp is not in the shot

2)•I chose to get the model to stand on the amplifier as it conveys movement, like the model is performing on stage, similar to the image below. •The full shot/ medium long shot allows the viewer to focus on the models body language and movement as they are supposed to look like they are performing.•This shot also makes it possible to see the model’s costume differently to the previous picture. For example, now the models shoes are visible. This can be representative of retro fashion followers or those who like to imitate famous rock stars with their style. It also shows the typical fashion sense of a rock star in a gothic style of the high heeled black boots. The models necklace is now more visible in contrast to her costume with help from the bright lighting which is reflecting off of it.•The prop of the electric guitar also helps support this as it shows they are playing an instrument. This is also representative of those who enjoy instrumental music with guitars or those who play the instrument themselves.•This is representative of those who enjoy instrumental music with electric guitars and concerts or those who play the instrument themselves, through the use of the prop of the electric guitar.•This also represents a typical pose that rock stars do while performing. An example of this can be see in the image below of the singer Andy Biersack performing live on stage.

Advantages:•The models pose seems natural like theyHad are actually playing the guitar.•They are doing a typical rockstar stance/poseDisadvantages:•The camera is too far away from the model. The guitar around the room are now a distraction and it is hard to read the models facial expression•Does not conform to the rule of thirds

3)

•The model is doing a stance that may be seen as a typical rockstar pose, as seen in the image below of Billie Joe Armstrong from the famous band Green Day. (This pose is one of his most common)•I wanted the model to do this stance as it shows power and control while they are playing their electric guitar•This is representative of musicians and fans of bands that imitate these actions at home and people who enjoy instrumental music with guitars or those who play the instrument themselves.•. The stance also represents power and control as a performer and makes the model seem like an important figure the audience will idolize and want to read about.

Front Cover Images

Advantages:•The models pose seems natural like theyHad are actually playing the guitar.•The lighting has made the colour of the guitar stand out better•The facial expression of the model is fierce and engaging like they are performing at a rock concert.•The change in electric guitar shows a better contrast in colour between the costume and prop•Conforms with to rule of thirdsDisadvantages:•The flash is shining off of one of the guitars and is on the models leg.

4)

•The model is kicking with her leg which shows she is enthusiastic and full of energy as she is playing the electric guitar and mimicking female punk rock singers like image B) below.•Hayley Williams’ pose shows power and control, and for a female performer to do it, it can represent the breaking of tradition and show that women are strong energetic performers just as men are.•The facial expressions of the model are also important in this picture as their mouth is wide open in an almost aggressive pose. This could be representative of an audience that enjoys music within the rock genre such as Metalcore, Deathcore, Screamo/Emo etc ,as this is a common pose of musicians within the sub-genre as shown in image A) below.

Image chosen

4)

•I chose this image out of the others because I think that it looks like there is something going on in this picture ,in comparison to for example, the one of the model sitting down. •There has been a change in props in this image that has not occurred in the others.•The lighting in this picture is brighter and allows the viewer to see the colours of the guitar better and see the contrast between the prop and costume. •Also the models aggressive expression is more visible and can convey the energy of a rockstar getting into their music. •I have chosen this model for the front cover to break the typical stereotype that rockstar musicians are men with pale skin and long hair. This provides a stronger representation of women and ethnic minorities.
