Welcome aboard to Charles Aldridge and his son Matt.  Our camp checking account has a balance of $2,672.70. Under a resolution adopted by the camp several years ago, we will seek to provide markers for 5 Confederate soldiers buried at Hollywood Cemetery over the next year. Mike Thomas and John Henry Tayl or are available to do the research and docu mentation needed to satisfy requirements by the V eterans Administration. In the past several years, the camp's primary fundraiser for this ongoing project has b een through donations received by our camp recruiting booth at the Chesterfield County Fair. After a hiatus last year, the camp has been invited again for this year's fair. Any camp member can nominate a soldier at Hollywood lacking a marker by informing Mike or John Henry . The camp and its membership have provided 60 markers in all over the past few years. There are many thousands of unmarked graves still in need.  Ken Chandler informed the camp tha t the Chesterfield County Fair will run from August 26 through September 3. The hours of operation are M-F: 5:00 PM -9:00 PM, Saturdays 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM. V olunteers are need to erect the b ooth and to assist Ken in setting his exhibit prior to the fair's opening day and then again on Sunday 4th when we need to take things dow n. (Note, the camp does not hold a meeting July).  Mike reported that Sena tor Mark Warner has joined Senator Jim Webb in fighting for the markers of the Confederate dead in Oakwood Cemetery. This is an unexpected coup and brings much more pressure on the V.A. to back off their recent interpretation that the 6"x6" numbered concre te markers are considered proper tombstones.  Commander T ommy Clinger informed the camp that in the June meeting the camp will need to set up a nomination committee for new camp officers. Our camp officers hold their positions for 2 years and w ill assume the positions at the end of the December meeting when they are sworn in. Please consider serving on this important committee and consider stepping forward to serve as a camp officer . Officer positions are: Commander, 1st Lt. Command er ,2nd Lt. Picnic Update

ur 1st Picnic was a great success! The weather was nice, the food delicious ,the entertainment amazing and the compectacular. Who could not have a great time with great music , great food and the chance to view collections from era in American history followed by a little mingling and tale telling.. The biggest downside from the picnic is that a

standard was set and it will be hard to top in the future.

hanks, to the many folks who before, during and after the picnic, supported us by rolling up their shirtsleeves and mings happen. Thanks to George Winn and his crew for rising early and working all day to make 30 gallons of the G

Winn's Famous stew. Also, a thank you to Hawthorne's whom where gracious enough to supply a great venue with g

ood and amazing collections that members will be talking about for some time. Thanks to all the people who broughmany good things to eat and share .

A short business meeting was conducted at the picnic , during which Mr. G.B. Spencer was presented a plaque for many years of support of the Camp at the Chesterfield County Fair, Jimmie Ligon presented the plaque. A vote to ac

J.C. Hale into our camp was taken, and all documentation is in hand so we can swear him into our Camp at the Jumeeting.

akwood update

e Veterans Administration has replied to the Oakwood Committee's appeal of the 2010 V.A. decision to deny uprigharkers for the Confederate dead in Oakwood Cemetery.

is reply, received via U.S. Mail May 23, affirms the original V.A. stance and confirms the V.A.'s stance that the 6"xncrete markers constitute proper marking for those buried there. The letter further adds that those markers previouslued for Confederate dead in Oakwood & elsewhere with 6"x6" markers were mistakes and do not constitute aecedent of any sort.
