Letter From Your Editor

Dear Key Club members,

Jolly June! Thank you to everyone who helped make Brooklyn Tech Key

Club’s Induction this year possible! It was a HUGE success, thanks to our

Induction committee! Shout-out to Sandy Liang, Angela Fu, and Karyee Au!

On another note, CONGRATULATIONS to our new cabinet! The board and I

look forward to working with all of you. Let’s make this service year another

exciting great year!

Just because it’s the end of the school year doesn’t mean it’s the end of

Key Club. Get ready for more key club events IN THE SUMMER!

As always, write about the event you went to. What you liked, what you

didn’t like, what you did, how you felt, express your feelings towards the event.

You know the drill, send your articles to [email protected] and if you have

any images, send that to [email protected].

Last Words from your Executive Board of 2010-2011

Hey Key Clubbers,

It’s been an honor serving as your Treasurer for the 2010-2011

service year. Because of Key Club, Junior year, with its heavy work-

load, became one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

When I first joined Key Club, it was just another school activity I was

part of. But now, MLIBTHSKC (My Life is BTHS Key Club).

But why do I like Key Club? Key Club changed me. Key Club

made me the young adult that I am today. Service is about being

selfless—but ironically, service gives you more than you give up. Ser-

vice helped me develop my public speaking skills, my strong-willed

character, and my dedication to commitment. It changed me from

a quiet boy in my freshman year, to a confident young adult. I owe

that to Key Club.

This letter is supposed to be my farewell to Key Club—but I am

not leaving. For me, this letter is merely a reflection of my experience in Key Club. Trust me, this ex-

perience has been the best I’ve ever had. For all this time, I’ve been looking for a quote that I really

stand by. And I have found it this year. This quote is: ―If you are part of something special, you are

special‖. KC has made me special. And everyone in Key Club is special to me.

I hope Key Club has had a positive impact on you, as it had on me. At first, it gave me an ex-

cuse to leave the house and hang out with my friends. But now, I go for that and the enjoyment of

being dedicated to such a worthy cause.

I wish you the best in all that you do. Don’t just love Key Club—live it—like I have done.

Yours Forever in Service,

Jim Chan

Treasurer 2010-2011

KEY CLUB

Letter from your 2011-2012 President, Jim Chan Dear Key Clubbers,

Thank you for electing me as your President for the 2011-2012 service year. I am confident that we will have a

great year together. Last year, as Treasurer, I went around during various events to talk to you guys about your experi-

ences with Key Club. I have learned of the problems and will work diligently to reform Key Club. This year, my goal is fo-

cused on three main ideals: Organization, Involvement, and Family.

Organization. Everything from committee selection to membership dues to emails to meetings will be

more organized for 2011-2012. In a short while, you will be receiving the Membership Information Sheet—a way to organ-

ize and keep track of all the members in the club. On it, I will also be asking for your borough where you live and the zip

code. This is to help me find volunteer opportunities convenient for you guys, the members. Also, we will be updating our

website, on a more regular basis. Ultimately, Key Club will run more smoothly.

Involvement. Key Club will be more involved in the community. We will have more events every month. I also

place a strong emphasis on attending Divisionals, K-Family Events, and Holiday Party, Inter-clubbing events, Fall Rally,

Leadership Training Conference, and Induction. These events make Key Club, Key Club. These events define Key Club.

So please, make an effort to attend these awesome events. Further, involvement is not only about raising money or par-

ticipating in a charity work. It is also about doing hands-on community service. I have been working with the Executive

board to plan the 2nd annual Division 9 Coney Island Beach Cleanup. Members have been working to serve the commu-

nity. The executive board needs to step it up too. I have made it a requirement of mine to achieve 200 points like every

other member. You will see where I stand when the point updates are sent out.

Family. These past few years, we have cared so much about the community. But what about ourselves? We

need to care about our family before we can spread out the love to the greater society. There will be more initiatives to

create a sense of family in Key Club. I hope to plan a Brooklyn Tech Key Club hangout so please stay tuned! Also, there

will be a greater initiative from the Executive board and myself to learn the names of every single Key Clubber.

I look forward to working with all of you next year. I will be committed and dedicated to bring Key Club to an-

other level of success—furthering our service to greater impact those in need. Caring really will be our way of life. Are you

ready? Let the service begin!

Yours in the Spirit of Service,

Jim Chan

President 2011-2012

KEY CLUB

International News

For those that attended the 63rd Annual Leadership Training

Conference, did you guys have fun? Miss it still? Don’t worry! In another

year you can attend again. But in the meantime, turn your attention to

the Key Club INTERNATIONAL Convention.

Every summer Key Club INTERNATIONAL

celebrates a year of service at the

international convention. Over 2,000

students and advisors gather together to

introduce new programs, present

awards to outstanding clubs, conduct

the organization's business, attend

educational workshops and elect

international officers for the

upcoming year.

The 68th Annual Key Club International Convention will take place in

Phoenix, Arizona from June 29 to July 3, 2011. Every club should send at

least two delegates and advisors, although many clubs send all their

officers and other key members. Make plans now to attend!

If you want to attend and represent Division 9 and Brooklyn Tech Key

Club, let us know! We will provide you will more information!

Key Clubber of

the Summer

What does it mean to be ―Key Clubber of the Summer‖?

Usually we give out this award each month to a particular key club

member who has made the most impact on our club that month. But

instead, this summer we will award ONE key club member for the

months June, July, and August. In order to get this award you have to

attend events, participate, and we want to see someone who is

actively helping and contributing to their community. But we also

want to see someone who is representing Brooklyn Tech, and most

importantly, key club. This member should be the role model for

other members.
