The food we eat is to be appreciated not just with our mouth, but with our sight, smell and touch. To understand that we eat food for many reasons: - Food is a joy; it feeds the stomach and it gives us energy. - Food is a comfort; it makes us happy when we are sad. - Food is a strength; it makes us well when we are sick. Eating is a great way to bond and relate. Eat with your family and do not eat alone in front of the TV. PROGRAM SEGMENT Total: 130 min Offering & Food Riddles & Quiz 15 min Ratatouille DVD 15 min (Note: TC children will run the following segments separately as Ks and Ps) Food Trivia Briefing 5 min Food Trivia Stations 1 – 3 80 min Dip & Share 15 min FOOD RIDDLES & QUIZ (15 min) Please refer to Appendix 1. Leader : Children, did you have fun at the Marina Barrage last week ? I know some of you your kite did not fly as high as you wanted but there were many children in the Sun 9am whose kites flew very high. Do you know there was a miracle that happened last week ? What was it ? (have children respond). Yes, God stopped the rain in time for you to fly the kite ? On Saturday it rained in the afternoon. On Sunday, it rained 1hr before the service. God loves you. He cooled the weather with the rain and just before you board the bus, the rain stopped. We want to pause here for a moment and thank God for His love and faithfulness toward us in answering our prayers and as a form of worship to Him, let’s give our offering to honor and thank Him. (Collect Offering)

RATATOUTILLE DVD PLAYBACK (15 min) Do not play the whole DVD. Screen the rest of the video when the whole program is over and there’s still time left. Keep the DVD for subsequent weeks’ time filler. Leader: Children, do you know what is the theme of our Holiday Program ? It’s EAT. What does EAT stands for ? Experience and Taste. Well, last week all of us have experienced and taste the goodness and faithfulness of God through His answered prayers. This week, we are going to appreciate why God made food for us. Well, God did not make food for us to eat. He also made food for us to enjoy. For most of us, we never think of food. Food is just food. We eat food so that we have strength. We eat food because mummy cooks and we have to eat. However, today, we are going to EAT, experience and taste the sight, smell and touch of food. We are going to experience everything that is about food and learn to be boys and girls who are appreciative of the daily food God will provide for us through our parents. So, are you ready ? If you are, I want you to show me you are ready. I want you to shout EAT at the count of 3 and we will roll out an EAT movie clip. (Stop at 17:43 at the point when the rat found the restaurant) Leader: I know, you want to continue with the movie but the rat has arrived at the restaurant and is ready to do what…..EAT. So, are the children. So, please listen up to the briefing and don’t get lost. (TC to dismiss the Ks to the 3rd Floor) FOOD TRIVIA (1 hr 10 min) Briefing

1) All of you will move as a group to the 3 stations. 2) The 3 stations are Smell station, Taste Relay station and Food Matching or Food Art

station. 3) The Food Matching and Food Art stations are 40 minutes each. So, you will either start

in that station or end in that station. 4) The total playing time for Smell and Taste Relay is 40 minutes. So, if your group does

not start with the Food Matching or Food Art stations, then you have 40 minutes to complete 2 stations.

5) The Ks will do Food Art station next week. Please keep to the timing and movement as stated in the rotation chart below.

6) Please keep to your station timing. 7) Platform leader, please assign leader to the generic group number below.

The top of the cup is poked to allow the child to smell. The children are to guess the food items they smell. These are the items: limes, onion, orange, ginger, tea leaves, curry leaves, garlics, cinnamons, jackfruit (if available), and other spices. Each of the cup is numbered. Children will go to the whiteboard and write down what they smell on the whiteboard against the cup number. Example, Cup 1 _________

Taste Relay Station (25 min) Logistics: Disposable plates, food items, disposable surgical gloves, food items (GKidz will provide) LEADERS PLEASE BRING A FRUIT KNIFE, METAL SPOON Get the 2 or 3 teams to stand in rows. They are to compete with each other to finish eating the food items from the various taste categories. Sour – sour plum, orange (peel and eat) Sweet – grapes, papaya (scoop and eat) Bitter - berlinjau cracker Spicy – chilli potato chips Food Art Station (40 min) – P1 -3s Only Logistics: Disposal table cloth, lemon grass brush, ice cream stick, egg tray, disposable cups to hold water to wash brushes, box of poster colours, art paper, wet wipes, star fruits, lady’s fingers, potatoes, capsicums 1. Divide the children into two teams. Each team is to share the art resources with the other team. 2. Tell children to think of designing a card for their parents (e.g. I Love-You, Thank You, You’re the best Daddy/Mum!, etc) 3. Distribute 1 drawing paper to each child. 4. Allow 30 min of art work and 10 min of cleaning up. Food Matching Station (40 min) – Ks only Logistics: Matching cards (laminated; to be passed on to next svc), crossword puzzles 1. Each group will have a set of matching cards and a set of crossword puzzles. 2. Leader will do one activity at a time. Allow 20 min per activity. 3. After the activity, please keep matching card sets and pass to the next service Ks group DIP & SHARE (15 min) Logistics: Bag of chips (GKidz will provide) This will be a weekly feature. The children will dip their hands into a pack of chips and share what they learn in this week lesson as the bag of chips are being passed around. Questions to ask: 1. Which station did you enjoy most ? Which station the least ? 2. What does food remind you of? 3. What kind of food makes you happy?

Who do you usually eat with? Share with the children“ Eat With Your Family” Day is an example by the government to promote family bonding over meals. Application: Eating is more than just consuming the food. It is about relating with the people you eat with. Jesus used meals to bond and relate with the people. Hence. during meal times, use to the time to talk to your family and friends instead of playing with your handphones and iPads.
