Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

A READING FROM THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES 2:1-21. When the day of Pentecost had come, the disciples were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs-- in our own languages we hear them speaking about God's deeds of power." All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "What does this mean?" But others sneered and said, "They are filled with new wine." But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, "Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o'clock in the morning. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: `In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord's great and glorious day. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.' " Reader The Word of the Lord People Thanks be to God.

A READING FROM ROMANS 8:14-17 All who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, "Abba! Father!" it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ-- if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. SEQUENCE HYMN Spirit of God Within Me Angel Fire

THE GOSPEL OF OUR LORD ACCORDING TO JOHN Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John 14:8-7, 25-27. People Glory to you, Lord Christ

Philip said to Jesus, "Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied." Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, `Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.

"If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you."

"I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid."

Deacon The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to you, Lord Christ.

THE SERMON The Rev. Leslie J. Hague

A quiet time for reflection follows the sermon.

THE NICENE CREED BCP 358

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Celebrant Your people are gathered together in this place, O God: Fill this house with the Spirit’s presence and power as we pray to you: May these words of ours find favor; we will rejoice in the Holy One. Intercessor Gracious One, let our trust in your Spirit grow so fully that we may do the works that Christ has done, and greater works than these. May these words of ours find favor; People we will rejoice in the Holy One.

Page 6: June 9, 2019 10:30 AM HOLY EUCHARIST, RITE II BCP 355 ...Ned Rorem (b. 1923) A Quaker Reader – from the dying words of James Naylor (1660) PROCESSIONAL HYMN 225 Hail thee, festival

Intercessor Almighty One, scatter our pride and teach those who hold authority in the world to turn to you for instruction and truth. May these words of ours find favor; People we will rejoice in the Holy One. Intercessor Ever-present One, pour out your Spirit upon all flesh and let the Holy Comforter bring healing and peace to all who live with illness, suffering, oppression, or injustice. May these words of ours find favor; People we will rejoice in the Holy One. Intercessor Ever-near One, let your deeds of power be with us in this community, that your children may prophesy, your young people see visions, and your elder people dream dreams. May these words of ours find favor; People we will rejoice in the Holy One. Intercessor Listen to all who call to you for help and honor our prayers on behalf of those for whom we intercede, especially those on our All Saints prayer list, for those receiving communion at home this week, and for those we name either silently or aloud. (Pause for quiet reflection) Hear our thanksgivings for your benevolence and providence as we offer our prayers of gratitude and praise, especially for those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this week, and for those we name either silently or aloud. (Pause for quiet reflection) Raise into your eternal presence all who have died, especially for those we name either silently or aloud. (Pause for quiet reflection) May these words of ours find favor; People we will rejoice in the Holy One. Celebrant How manifold are your works, Gracious One; you open your hand and all your creatures are filled with good things: Let your Spirit abide with us and in us, that we may love you and keep your commandments to love one another, living in the unity of the Son, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, One God, for ever and ever. Amen. CONFESSION OF SIN The Officiant says

Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. Silence may be kept. The congregation may stand or kneel.

Minister and People

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. A Priest, stands and says

Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. THE PEACE Celebrant The peace of the Lord be always with you. People And also with you.

The Ministers and People greet one another in the name of the Lord.

THE HOLY COMMUNION The Holy Eucharist, Prayer C

OFFERTORY ANTHEM Send Down Thy Peace, O God Daniel E. Gawthrop (b. 1949)

Send down Thy truth, O God: too long the shadows frown; Too long the darkened way we’ve trod: Thy truth, O Lord, send down.

Send down Thy spirit free, till wilderness and town, One temple for Thy worship be: Thy spirit, O send down. Send down Thy love, Thy life, our lesser lives to crown,

And cleanse them hate and strife: Thy living love send down. Send down Thy peace, O Lord: earth’s bitter voices drown In one deep ocean of accord: Thy peace, O God, send down

OFFERTORY HYMN 511 Holy Spirit, ever living Abbot’s Leigh

The Eucharistic Gifts are brought forward.

Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. People We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give God thanks and praise. God of all power, Ruler of the Universe, you are worthy of glory and praise. Glory to you for ever and ever. At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, and this fragile earth, our island home. By your will they were created and have their being.

Page 8: June 9, 2019 10:30 AM HOLY EUCHARIST, RITE II BCP 355 ...Ned Rorem (b. 1923) A Quaker Reader – from the dying words of James Naylor (1660) PROCESSIONAL HYMN 225 Hail thee, festival

From the primal elements you brought forth the human race, and blessed us with memory, reason, and skill. You made us the rulers of creation. But we turned against you, and betrayed your trust; and we turned against one another. Have mercy, Lord, for we are sinners in your sight. Again and again, you called us to return. Through prophets and sages you revealed your righteous Law. And in the fullness of time you sent your only Son, born of a woman, to fulfill your Law, to open for us the way of freedom and peace. By his blood, he reconciled us. By his wounds, we are healed. And therefore we praise you, joining with the heavenly chorus, with prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and with all those in every generation who have looked to you in hope, to proclaim with them your glory, in their unending hymn: Celebrant and People sing

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might, S-128 heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

The people stand or kneel as they so choose.

And so, Father, we who have been redeemed by him, and made a new people by water and the Spirit, now bring before you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ our Lord. On the night he was betrayed he took bread, said the blessing, broke the bread, and gave it to his friends, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me." After supper, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me." Remembering now his work of redemption, and offering to you this sacrifice of thanksgiving, We celebrate his death and resurrection, as we await the day of his coming. The Celebrant continues

Lord God of our Fathers: God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: Open our eyes to see your hand at work in the world about us. Deliver us from the presumption of coming to this Table for solace only, and not for strength; for pardon only, and not for renewal. Let the grace of this Holy Communion make us one body, one spirit in Christ, that we may worthily serve the world in his name. Risen Lord, be known to us in the breaking of the Bread. Accept these prayers and praises, Father, through Jesus Christ our great High Priest, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, your Church gives honor, glory, and worship, from generation to generation. AMEN.

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, People and Celebrant

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD FRACTION ANTHEM Celebrant and People

Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. S-155 Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia.

WEDNESDAY HEALING PRAYER WITH EUCHARIST WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12 12:05 p.m. St. Luke's Chapel

(use side door by the Jensen Courtyard) Many are asked to remember others, especially for healing, in our prayers. All are invited to join together at this service for a healing laying-on-of-hands, anointing, and prayer for others or our selves. These prayers become our Eucharistic offering as we celebrate together in our lovely St Luke's Chapel.

THIS WEEK IS THE COMMEMORATION OF BARNABAS Joseph, a Levite, born in Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas.

VESPERS (EVENING PRAYERS—RITE I) AT ALL SAINTS Every Thursday Evening at 6:30 pm Vespers will be in St. Luke’s Chapel

Vespers is a wonderful and deeply spiritual liturgy of prayer which is the penulti-mate of the ancient daily Christian “Prayer Hours.” Vespers offers us an opportunity for thanksgiving for the good in the day, to let go of the stresses of work and life; and to turn all things earthly, over to God near the end of the day.

This is a great way to share with those in need who are on the streets asking for a handout. Instead of giving cash, you can give a “ packet” that will give them some nutriment to help them through the day. Plus, there is a note that is included in the packet that gives them the phone number to a “Broward Help Line” and also a com-ment that “God loves you.” The packets are a bargain for $2 each or 3 for $5. The funds that are collected are recycled into the “Outreach Fund” to purchase more supplies for the packets. A special thanks to Frank Asterita for keeping the supply going for us. This summer we will present the trilogy The Chronicles of Narnia

by C. S. Lewis

June 16: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

SPECIAL APPEAL

As a step toward ensuring greater security on the All Saints cam-

pus, the Vestry is making an appeal to the Parish for special fund-

ing of a security camera system covering the entire campus. At the

moment we have very limited coverage of the front entrance to the offices. We have

no idea of activities that take place anywhere else on our property day or night. We

have received a highly commended proposal for a wireless system of 13 cameras and

a high resolution DVR capable of 45-day storage at a cost of just under $12,000. Half

of this money has already been raised through private donations and special event

parking collections. Only $6,000 more is required. In the current security environ-

ment, the Vestry considers this a priority action. Please speak to Terry Colli [302-569-

4943] if you have any questions. Donations in support of this appeal should be

marked SECURITY CAMERAS in the memo section of your check.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE FOR ALL SAINTS The Mission of the Congregational Care Givers is to reach out to members of All Saints parish and to serve as a re-source to our brothers and sisters with joy, love, thanksgiv-ing, dignity, confidentiality and respect.
