ACCREDITED CHEST PAIN CENTER AT TJ

Heart disease, such as coronary artery disease, heart attack, congestive heart failure, and congenital heart disease, is the leading cause of death for men and women in the U.S. and have been for over 150 years. Society’s strategy to reduce these numbers is to recognize signs and symptoms and teach proper nutrition, weight management, physical activity, smoking cessation, and what to do if you start to have a heart attack.

In 2015-2016, T.J. Samson Community Hospital has experienced tremendous growth with their cardiac services program. With this growth due to the communities support, we are taking our program to the next level. Our goal is to once again become an Accredited Chest Pain Center.

Chest Pain Center Accreditation combines evidence-based science, quality initiatives, American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines, and clinical best practices for the most effective care for our Low Risk, Acute Coronary Syndrome, and Acute Myocardial Infarction patients. The focus is to improve patient outcomes with

streamlined processes and protocols. Also, with these improvements or opportunities, it will increase patient satisfaction and demonstrate to the community our commitment and dedication to provide exceptional cardiac care.

With the accreditation, many departments will be working together on focused metrics, and processes that are currently in place will be reviewed. Our cardiac care is just part of the accreditation process. We also look at our Community Outreach, our education for our employees and all new employees joining our facility, our EMS services, our Emergency Department, and many other areas for achieving this higher level of expertise. You may start seeing subtle changes throughout the hospital and more education opportunities for each person. This is all part of the teamwork we need for this accreditation to be successful.

having a heart attack. This also includes awareness of the signs and symptoms. EHAC or Early Heart Attack Care is the benchmark of community outreach and education for heart disease. 85% of all heart damage occurs within the first two hours of a heart attack. On average, 50% of these patients ignored the warning signs. Heart attack symptoms have many misconceptions. For instance, the portrayal as seen on television is a person gripping their chest in pain and falling over; this is not always how it happens. Men and women vary on what they experience, so knowing the differences will help a person seek immediate medical care. The goal for a true heart attack or myocardial infarction is to restore blood flow. Every minute that passes causes more of the heart muscle to die. The standard across the country for opening up the blocked artery that caused or is causing the heart attack or MI is less than 90 minutes. Time is the key, and every minute counts. TIME IS MUSCLE.

Most of us have experienced some type of heart disease with either a family member, co-worker, or even a patient we are taking care of. It touches everyone in some way, and with the slightest changes, we can help each other just by learning what to do and what to look for.

EHAC PledgeI understand that heart attacks have beginnings that may include chest discomfort, shortness of breath, shoulder and/or arm pain, and weakness. These may occur hours or weeks before the actual heart attack.

I solemnly swear that if it happens to me or anyone I know, I will call 9-1-1 or activate our Emergency Medical Services.

“Pam goes above and beyond her job duties; she works hard and dedicates a lot of time to ensure that projects are completed effectively. She has a caring voice when you call and is always willing to help anyone. She takes time to explain your benefits so that you understand all options. Pam has a friendly personality and a can-do attitude.”

“This young lady is a gem. Cassi has the most positive caring attitude. She made us feel welcome; she is wonderful; she made my hospital stay more enjoyable. I looked forward to her coming into my room because whatever I needed I knew she would help me. She is an inspiration. ”
