INTRODUCTION TO THE DDSS

The Digital Dentistry Summer School (DDSS) is a one-week evidence based continuous education program offered by Nordic Institute of Dental Education (NIDE), endorsed and developed with Planmeca Group and the University of Turku for internationally active, leading dental professionals from around the world.

The program provides the opportunity to earn at least 26 CE credits by ADA-CERP by taking two, two-day CAD/CAM courses in addition to experiencing Finnish culture and the latest digital dentistry practices and dental technologies and products from Planmeca Group.

DDSS – Advanced CAD/CAM 2019 Teachers

DMD, Dr. Walter Renneis a Professor and Assistant Dean of Innovation and Digital Dentistry at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is the course director for the preclinical CAD/CAM course. He has won several national and regional teaching awards for his efforts both pre-clinically and clinically.

He is proficient clinically with the Planmeca Emerald, CEREC Omnicam, 3Shape Trios, CS 3600 and iTero element. He is active in dental research and currently has several patents including a patent for a platform of long-term antimicrobial dental materials that have revolutionary bond durability components by inhibiting enzyme degradation of the hybrid layer while simultaneously preventing bacterial proliferation. He has also published several studies on scan accuracy and milling accuracy using various systems.

DMD, Dr. Anthony Mennito(Tony) is an Associate Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine. He is the division director for digital dentistry and runs the CAD/CAM and Esthetic clinics at the school.

Tony was on the team that helped develop and test the E4D Compare computer assisted learning software and is the Chief Operations Officer for CuRE Innovations, a biotech startup that creates materials to improve restoration longevity.

Tony lectures internationally and has numerous published papers on the topic of digital dentistry.

He maintains a private practice in Charleston, South Carolina with an emphasis on CAD/CAM and esthetic restorations.

PhD, DMD, Dr. Zachary Evans (Zach) completed his PhD in Biomedical Science, dental training, and residency in periodontics at the Medical University of South Carolina, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.

Zach is currently an Assistant Professor in the MUSC Department of Stomatology, Division of Periodontics. He is director of the Master of Science in Dentistry program and is actively engaged in research relating to dental implant and CAD/CAM technologies. He serves as Chief Scientific Officer for CuRE Innovations, a biotech startup based in Charleston, developing antimicrobial additives and coatings for existing restorative and implant components and materials.

Zach lectures internationally on the incorporation of digital systems into surgical and implant practice.

The evening is spent on a guided Walking Tour of Seurasaari Island. The Open-Air Museum of Seurasaari displays the traditional Finnish way of life, displayed in the cottages, farmsteads and manors of the past four centuries that have been relocated from all around Finland. A picnic with traditional Finnish grilled foods is arranged for those who sign up.
