Our July resident spotlight shines on both Lloyd and Connie Knapp. Lloyd is originally from Sandy, Utah. Although he moved when he was too young to remember any of it, it is his ‘birthplace’. He was drafted into the military in1953. He served 2 years in active duty and 4 years in the Reserves. He studied accounting and later received his law degree from the University of Nebraska. He worked for Caterpillar for 45 years.

Attending the same university was none other than Warren Buffet. They were not only friends but also worked together at the local newspaper in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Connie was born in Cleveland, Ohio, where she lived for most of her life. She held various admin positions while raising 4 sons. They were set up on a blind date in Cleveland which led to be a 2nd marrige for both. They managed to form a wonderful family with 2 sons of Lloyd, 4 sons of Connie and together they have Abraham. WooF!! Abraham seems to know the name of every dog within our community and can sound off whether he is a fan or not.

Resident SpotlightSugar Land Farmers MarketBeginning Saturday, July 7th, our Landon Ridge

Entertainment is provided by area artists for your shopping pleasure.

The bus will be remain on-site for shoppers to store their purchases and allow time to linger and enjoy the open-air entertainment.

We will depart for the return trip by 4:00 pm, arriving back at Landon Ridge Sugar Land approximately 8:00 pm. Residents must sign up in advance for this trip.

Golden Nugget Casino Trip July 20th

They first moved here to Sugar Land in ‘93, before settling in Richmond. Last year, they lost everything to Hurricane Harvey, which landed them here, back to Sugar Land.

They’ve traveled to many far places; far too many to name. Please take a minute to say hello to Lloyd, Connie and Abraham. Chances are you’ve been to some of the same places.

Landon Ridge Sugar Land residents love a good party. What better way to celebrate our great nation's Independence and Freedom than to celebrate all day.

• This July 4th Holiday, we will enjoy Aqua Aerobics at the pool with fun and games for prizes.

• Chef Christina will host a Fourth of July cookout for the noon meal featuring grilled hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixings. There will be special drinks provided by Lifestyles.

• Musician, Vince Ramos, will entertain at 3:00 pm, in the Dining Room, with songs from the ‘40s and ‘50s era.

• The big finale will take place at 7:00 pm in the Courtyard with Jack T. Carr, Tenor Sax and Jazz artist.

• Watermelon will be served outdoors. • If the night is clear, we might be able to see the

Fireworks over Constellation Field. Jack T. Carr, Tenor Saxophone and

Jazz Artist to appear July 4th.

New Hula Dancing ActivityThe Landon Ridge Line Dancers have enjoyed

learning the Hula so much that it's been decided we want to continue.

Beginning Wednesday, July 11th, residents will board the community bus at 12:30 pm to travel to the T.E. Harmon Senior Center for Hula lessons with expert instructor, Gloria Chiu.

The Landon Ridge Line Dancers will continue with a separate fitness class for Line Dancing in our gym, and the Hula class at the Senior Center will become a separate outing once a week.

The classes at T.E Harman Senior Center requires each individual resident join the membership for only $10.00 per year, but this membership affords a variety of group classes, trips, and fitness training through their facility.

Please contact Jill Saxon, Lifestyles Director, for more information. Landon Ridge Supports Our Veterans

Have you seen our updated Veterans Wall of Honor in the Cafe, or the new Veterans Directory that Terrilyn Lovell, Lifestyles Associate, recently completed? You should really take a look.

We honor and support our Veterans group, and welcome all residents who have served in the Military to join in our monthly Veterans Lunch outing on the second Friday of each month.

If you are a Veteran and would like to include your photo on our Wall of Honor and Veterans Directory, please leave a message with Concierge for Lifestyles Associates, Jill Saxon and Terrilyn Lovell, or Charley Burch, Resident Volunteer and Veterans Coordinator.

We are happy to announce the City of Sugar Land is bringing their resources to our community.

In June, Lt. Herc Meier and Captain Eric Volkman of the Public Education Department provided pertinent information about Senior Fire Safety and Fall Assistance through the First Responders program.

The event was well-attended. Lt. Meier and Captain Volkmann will be returning to assist with future Resident Fire Drills and Emergency Preparedness events.

Please watch your monthly calendar and daily fliers for more information about upcoming activities.

City of Sugar Land Lends a Helping Hand

Celebrate Our Independence

Independence Day, or the Fourth of July, celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the 13 colonies in 1776, thereby severing their ties to Great Britain.

That historic document was drafted by Thomas Jefferson, with substantial edits made by other members of the Congress. An officially inscribed version was signed by 56 members of the Continental Congress on August 2.

Celebration of the day began during the American Revolution with fireworks and parades, traditions that continue today. The best-known observance takes place in Washington, D.C., and includes a spectacular fireworks display.

Did you know?• A salute of one gun for each state in the United States, called a “salute to the

union,” is fired on Independence Day at noon by any capable military base.• The first week of July is one of the busiest American travel periods of the year,

as many people utilize the holiday for longer vacation trips.
