Staff Spotlight
Kristina Goldstine
Kristina Goldstine is a Physical
Therapist that is new to our ther-
apy family. She recently started at
Prairie Rehab in September of this
past year 2016. Currently, she is
working to find areas that she
would like to specialize in as she
builds her caseloads. Kristina is
here at the Worthington Outpa-
tient clinic on Mondays, Wednes-
days and Fridays. She also works
in the Sioux Falls Cliff Office on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. Kristina
lives in Sioux Falls with her roommates. She has two
brothers that are both married with children and her par-
ents who are all located in the Sioux Falls area. In her
free time, she enjoys working out to stay healthy, playing
soccer, spending time with her nephews, doing puzzles
and reading. ◊
Ashley Hoyme
Ashley Hoyme is an Occupational
Therapist that has worked for
Prairie Rehab for the past 2 years.
She initially started as part time in
March of 2015 and became full
time in July of 2015. She works at
the outpatient facility, in skilled
nursing, and home health settings
both in MN and SD. Ashley grew
up on a farm in Hills, MN where
her parents still reside. She has an older sister who is a
teacher and a younger brother who farms and sells re-
pairable vehicles. At Prairie Rehab, Ashley primarily treats
shoulders both pre surgery and post surgery. She has
recently begun training for lymphedema of the arms. In
her spare time, she likes to read novels and travel when
time permits. She enjoys walking on beaches along the
ocean and feels there is nothing better than this, except
spending time with her family. Ashley enjoys being out-
doors and you can often see her riding her bike around
the lake when the weather is agreeable. ◊ Like and Review us on Facebook at

A Word from Marc:
*Sports Performance*
“This month I would like to
look at sports performance.
When an athlete wants to
improve their performance
or get ready for the season,
they will look for a sports
performance specialist. The
specialist will help the ath-
lete enhance their skills and
will assist in preparing them
for the next season. The
specialist will sit down with
the athlete and talk to them
about the sport they partici-
pate in, the position they play and what their goals are for
the upcoming season. The next step would be to test the
athlete in areas of physiological assessments, body com-
position, movement, posture, performance, speed,
strength, power and cardio-respirator assessments. After
the assessments are analyzed, a specific program for the
athlete is then created. The program would include and
address the following: flexibility, cardio, speed, agility and
quickness, balance, plyometric, resistance and Olympic/
power lifting training. Other topics that can be addressed
in sports enhancement would be injury prevention, sports
nutrition and sports psychology. If you know someone, or
you yourself are interested in sports enhancement, please
stop in and see me.”◊

How Occupational Therapy Can Help
• Cognitive screenings/assessments (SLUMS, MOCA,
Short blessed, Independent Living Scale, Allen's
Cognitive levels)
• Cognitive training for daily activities with focus on
acquiring skills or developing strategies to complete difficult tasks
• Home safety evaluations to increase independence
within the home and examine hazards to remove for
safety
• Compensatory strategies for aiding with everyday life
using technology, pillboxes, lighting and/or other
support systems tailored to the person's needs
• Provide resources to increase social interaction or
assistance within the home
• Fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, forearms, upper arms
and shoulders to recover from injuries, surgeries and
more ◊
Signs Of Cognitive Decline: When To See Your Doctor
• Memory Loss - missing appointments, missing
medications, losing items, needing extensive reminders
• Withdrawal from social activities and/or lack of
engagement with others
• Requiring extra time for simple tasks
• Lacking focus for task completion
• Personality changes: use of foul language, hostility,
confusion, odd/inappropriate behaviors, increased anxiety
• Orientation problems
• Language issues: problems writing, understanding
what people tell you, describing what is seen, or
naming common items
• Decreased coordination and motor changes: increase
in bruises, lack of balance with falls and bumping into
furniture
• Repetitive questioning: asking the same questions
over and over while struggling to remember the answer, events or memories ◊
