This months run will have the highest number of members attending for many years don’t forget to take your cameras and a couple of reports would be nice. Till next month John

Car Crash in Washington DC 1921

I was reading an article last night about fathers and sons, and memories came flooding back of the time I took my son out for his first pint………

Got him a Coopers ...... he didn't like it so I had it. …………….. Then I got him a West End, he didn't like it so I had it……………… It was the same with Guinness and Cider. …………… By the time we got down to the whisky, I could hardly push the bloody pram.

History Month at Beaumont House 25th May 2014.

The National Trust of SA had a display of Vintage Fire Engines at Beaumont House. Built 1859 was home of the first Anglican Bishop of Adelaide. The Jaguar XK was the Fire Chief's car there was quite a furore when the fire chief got that Jag as his car. The 1922 Ford T and the 1936 Diamond T both saw service at Burra.

Started at Clubrooms, weather was perfect for the run organized by Alan & Janet Reddy 16 vehicles set off to the beach. Thousands of people jogging, walking and walking dogs & cycling along the foreshore, and many more swimming. Unfortunately there is many speed humps on the Esplanade, as one Member said there was more bumps than a Rugby Grand Final. The Shockers got a work out. Stopped for Smoko at Hallett Cove Conservation Park. Some walked along the beach, some saw Glacier Rock Formations Noarlunga Reef was busy with Scuba Divers, Swimmers & Fishermen. Life Savers were having Rubber duck Racers inside the Reef. Moana Beach, There were plenty of Cars on the beach and young Surfers out practic-ing. On to Maslin’s beach, a bit cool for the naturalists but saw one topless Man. Lunch was at Sellicks Beach, overlooking the ocean. Fish & chips, Hamburgers’ etc. from the Kiosk- General Store. The Oldest Car was Charlie & Mary Mifsud ’48 Pontiac Silver Streak they said they didn’t feel the speed bumps. There were 3 MG’S 1 look alike MG a MX5 2 Dogs on the run Robin & John Sommers white Labrador & Barry Scrimshaw white Labrador? 1 MGB went for a run on the beach and didn’t get bogged that was Malcolm & Carly Goldsworthy A great run and a good day was had by all, Thanks to Alan & Janet Reddy. Jenny and I headed down to the Port early to check out the old hulk the City of Adelaide many others had a similar plan. Scottish dancers and bands kept us entertained several clubs had their vehicles on display. Thousands boarded the Bradley Barge to get close to the Ole Clipper Ships tied split planks she's in poor nick only the ribs look serviceable. What next?

The Saltwater Classic 4th to 6th April 2014 After a quick refuel and tyre check we were on our way to the York Peninsula to look at the Saltwater Classic. Hasn’t the run down the coast changed over the last 40 years, shack communities have sprung up all along this stretch and this year anti mining signs are letting everyone know what concern the locals have. Stansbury had the first day of the 2 day event as we entered town a large sign depicting an image of the previous festival welcomed us. I must confess if one of my vehicles were ever to be put on a sign like that it would disappear. This year market day was on the Saturday the market was small compared to previous years. We also noticed that the number of vehicles on display were down, the engine display area had just one stationary motor. This must have disappoint-ed the organisers why aren't the local clubs support-ing this event. A couple of clubs that have regularly supported this event were the Chrysler Club and the Adelaide Hot Rodders also had the highest representation Quite a few of the Chryslers had period caravans some col-our matched to their vehicles. One vehicle that caught my attention was a Nissan Junior the 1900cc model built in the 60’s they sold in small numbers compared to the Toyota Stout calling your vehicle Junior might not have helped. A veteran Pope motor-cycle also got my attention especially when its own-er fired it up pity there were only a few other bikes there. A display of outboards also got my interest amongst them were of course a few British Seagulls, Britannia Swordfish (anyone out there got a carby for one I have one buried in the shed minus it’s Amal float bowl) early Evinrude’s and Mercury.

At 11.00am the boat owners were asked to move their boats to the local boat ramp and launch for their run to Port Vincent. Jenny an I drove around for a look, I've always enjoyed watching the skill of own-ers backing their trailers quite entertaining. Boat owners are just the same as car and bike owners we all love to talk about our vehicles. I soon had offers to crew on a couple of boats, I had to decline their offers. How would we get back to our vehicle Port Vincent is about 13 km’s from Stansbury and I couldn't leave Jenny behind to follow in the car. Jen-ny had returned to our car to catch up on some read-ing while I went out to the end of the break water to watch the boats leave, quite a sight as they circled waiting to go, four sea rescue boats escorted the run to Stansbury. Conditions were perfect hardly a breeze and temp in the mid twenties the guys with sails would've liked a little more. Then all of a sud-den as I was about to step off a large rock someone grabbed my right arm and almost at the same time a sheila grabbed my left arm then I heard “Don’t wor-ry mate we wont let you fall we have to look after you ole fella’s” well I think I went into shock said thanks and got off that breakwater as quick as I could. Then I made a BIG mistake I told Jenny you could've heard her laughing in Adelaide. We had lunch in the Stansbury Hotel neat pub table over looking the bay afterwards we watched some of the boats come in all were happy with the run. Sunday is Port Vincent's day the road along the foreshore was closed off so display vehicles had free reign. Classic boats did a sail past near the wharf commentary was given on each boat as they past, the Navy band started playing in front of the pub where Jenny and I had lunch again. When the incoming tide was high enough some of the boat en-trants nosed their boats onto the beach, SAMFS fire boat MV Gallantry put on a display of its fire fighting capabilities its twin engines roared when all its pumps are flat out. We enjoyed the weekend will be there in two years time with a vehicle or boat I hope. Jenny & John (the ole fella)
