Cat Transition Progress-ing Well The transition of the CATS Incredible tournament to the EGF Fire Department is going well.

Several meetings between chamber staff, EGF Fire Fight-ers and longtime CATS volun-teers ensure a very smooth transition and the continuation of the quality CATS Incredible Tournament fishermen and area residents have come to expect.

The dates for the tournament are Saturday and Sunday July 27th and 28th. Contact Jeff Anderson at 218-779-6605 or [email protected] for details on the tournament.

Retail Diversity UpdateThe Chamber continues to encourage and work with retail businesses interested in locat-ing in Grand forks and specifi-cally to encourage women’s clothing stores to locate here. Women’s clothing was identi-fied as the biggest area of leakage to larger markets and the internet in the retail analy-sis that was done two years ago by the Buxton retail ana-lytic group.

More than 10 restaurants , 4 women’s clothing stores and one specialty store identified by the Buxton analysis have located in Grand Forks since the analysis was completed and information was sent to potential companies encourag-ing them to look at locating in our region.

NV360 Action Team EstablishedThe Chamber and The Com-munity Foundation staff have been very busy speaking at service clubs and with key groups throughout the com-munity about the NV360 re-sults.

Chamber Priorities Met in 2013 ND Legislative Session The Chamber partnered with many other organizations to work its legislative agenda this session. With the Medical School and Law school building projects at the top of the list this session was certainly a huge success according to Barry Wilfahrt, Chamber President. The Chamber also testified on SB2018 the department of commerce budget bill that will provide funding for the Grand Sky UAS Business park a the GFAFB and also for base retention funds and the anticipated air space integration that will be announced by the FAA late this year. All of these project will help the Grand Forks economy for many years to come. The legislative delegation from Grand Forks did a terrific job pushing this agenda throughout the session according to Wilfahrt

From a business climate perspective the local chamber supported corporate and personal income tax relief along with a continuation of the property tax relief enacted two sessions ago. All three passed continues to make ND one of the most attractive states to business in from a tax perspective.

Chamber Volunteer Appreciation Picnic PlannedAll Chamber volunteers are invited to attend a volunteer appreciation picnic later this summer in the backyard of the chamber office building in downtown Grand Forks. The date of the picnic will be announced soon and we hope you will all have time to stop by and enjoy great food and refreshments while you visit with chamber staff, board members and fellow chamber volunteers at this first ever chamber volunteer appreciation picnic. Chamber News

The next step is the establishment of an NV360 Action team that will meet periodically to moni-tor progress on the many goals established during the NV360 process. The group will serve as a catalyst to ensure as many of the ideas that surfaced during the NV360 process are given serious consideration. Membership Visits Continue Chamber President Barry Wilfahrt continues to visit approximately 2 chamber members every day in his ongoing effort to stay in touch with the needs of the Chamber membership.

With more than 1,000 members, this is a lot of ground to cover. So, if you would like to visit with him at any time about something specific, don’t wait for the Chamber office to call. Feel free to email or call the chamber office and he will be glad to schedule a time to come out and visit with you. Often times things change in your business that the Chamber should be aware of, so please let us know. We are al-ways interested in our members!

Lee brings more than five years of experience in GIS related to water resources engi-neering. “We are excited about the extensive experi-ence in GIS anal-

and planning a new display for his produce department, Hogan says, “It’s like painting a portrait or a piece of art with the vibrant colors of the fruits and vegetables when I make a new display.”

Semrau Elected to Altru Board of Directors Chris Semrau, Director of Events & Media Relations of Ralph Engelstad Arena, was recently elected to Al-tru Health System’s Board of

Directors. As a Community Direc-tor, Semrau will work in coordina-tion with other Board members in the develop-ment and over-sight of policy in

areas of quality, performance improvement, effective plan-ning and performance of Altru Health System.

Semrau has served as the Director of Events and Media Relations for Ralph Engelstad Arena since May 2000 when he earned his bachelor’s de-gree in business from the University of North Dakota. His role in booking and event management has been signifi-cant for the myriad of events hosted at Ralph Engelstad Arena including 2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey Cham-pionship, 2008 Men’s World Curling Championship, NCAA Division I Men’s West Regional Hockey Tournament, NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship, and numerous concerts and family shows. He is part of the facility’s senior management team that directs

San Diego, California. The 5 Grand Prize winners in the competition were presented with $ 1000 cash prizes dur-ing the Produce Celebration Dinner Thursday, May 16 in San Diego.

When customers come into the store’s produce depart-ment they can feel confident that Hogan will help them find exactly what they are looking for as well as providing guid-ance on how to select the right fruits and vegetables and the proper handling and storing of their produce.

Hogan has been instrumental in giving department tours within the store to bringing his experience right to the class-rooms within the school dis-trict. “I have always believed that being involved in my local community is the key to edu-cation,” says Hogan. As his own daughters were growing, he would teach them about produce and making healthy food choices. He and his wife called it “Tid-bit Time.” It is now one of his greatest plea-sures that these “Tid-bits” are being passed to the next gen-eration, his grandchildren.

Other community involvement Hogan is proud to be a part of include the YMCA’s Health Trip (promoting healthy lifestyles), the Healthy Living Expo (fo-cusing on the education of the growing organic produce mar-ket as well as exotic/specialty fruits and vegetables) and the Wild Hog Half Marathon com-mittee. He is also on the local Potato Bowl Committee which is an annual event involving the Northern Valley Potato Growers Association, the Uni-versity of North Dakota and many other local businesses.

Hogan has won several re-gional and national contests with his creative merchandis-ing which has created lots of excitement for customers and fellow employees alike. He hears many customers inquire as to when they can expect to see the next creative dis-play. While reflecting upon

“Through work and college, Dustin has gained valuable experience in GPS data collec-tion, data processing, and cre-ating maps in ArcGIS®,” says Roger Grimsley, PLS, AE2S Geomatics Manager. “Dustin is very enthusiastic and we’re happy to have him on the team.”

Originally from Hazen, ND, Snyder holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geosciences from Minnesota State Univer-sity in Moorhead, MN.

Hugo’s Rick Hogan Final-ist for National Award Educating his customers, employees, and other mem-bers of the community is the first priority of Hugo’s Family Marketplace Produce Manager, Rick Hogan. During his 39 years of working for Hugo’s, Hogan has focused on sharing

his knowledge of produce with all ages from Head-start Preschool classes to Senior Citizens in his lo-cal and surround-ing communities. This ability to

relate to his customers’ needs is one of the reasons Hogan was selected by United Fresh to be the only person from North Dakota to be honored as one of only 25 honorees nationwide for the 2013 Re-tail Produce Manager Awards Program.

Hogan was presented his award, sponsored by Ready Pac Foods, at the United Fresh 2013 Meeting May 14-16 in
