PRESIDENT'S NOTES

Hello Everyone, It’s will great sadness and joy that I begin this monthly letter. Sadness for the loss of a great gentleman, car enthusiast and club member Donny Carroll. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be offered to family members. The joy is the fact that I had the opportunity to know Donny, learn about Mustangs from him, walk around his collection and listen to his stories and knowledge about all of his cars and Mustangs. He and Donna made a great couple and they ‘raised’ some fine family members. Well, it’s almost summer, can you believe that we’ve already arrived at June(depending on when you receive this newsletter). I understand there was a good turnout for the Plainview trip and Mike will fill you in with details, plus information on upcoming events in the summer. If you haven’t heard our VP is no longer associated with Cinemark Movies 16, so you can visit any theatre in town and not feel guilty. That company didn’t realize what a dedicated worker(s) that had, Jim kept the place repaired while Laura kept the theatre operating. They will stay with us and travel between the north and the south for a little while. Help me talk them into keeping the Lubbock home for the fall/winter months so that they can visit with us from time to time. That will also keep us from having to find a new VP!..watch out Mike and Ronnie… Let me finish with a reminder to start asking now for donations/gifts for our annual car show in August. See you in June John

Doc's Thoughts

This month - Don't forget Coffee & Cars, Saturday the 1st, 8 to 10am at The

Bistro, 98th & Slide.

The Hub City Cruzers annual car show is on the 8th at Mackenzie Park.

I want to second John's comments on the loss of Donny Carroll. He was a

friend to so many of us and a real asset to our club. He will be sorely

missed. Thanks to all of you who came out in your cars to escort Donny to

his final resting place. We had 12 cars and the Nifty Fifties had 14, so it

was an impressive motorcade to the cemetery and Donny's family was very

appreciative. Pictures are on the Facebook page.

We had a great turn out for the Plainview trip and, in my opinion, it was the

most fun trip our club has put together so far. All who went really had a

blast. We really need to do more of these day trips, so if you have any

suggestions, let us know. Again, pictures are on the Facebook page.

"Mustangs Across America" is gearing up for the big 50th Anniversary drive

next year. The route is from Los Angeles to Charlotte and will pass just

south of us, Midland to Dallas. get all the info at

www.mustangsacrossamerica.com. Also, check out www.mustangfest.org

for info on the cruise to Mustang Island in the fall. More on these events to

come. Dennis Quattlebaum is a veteran of both these drives if you have any

questions. There's more on MustangFest and Mustangs on the Lexington at

the bottom of this newsletter.

High Five Tour

The 2013 High Five Tour will be coming through Lubbock on October 25th. This is a tour of a new 800hp "wide body" Shelby GT500 to raise awareness and funds for the Wounded Warrior Project. As you know, our club has volunteered to drive and host the car.

At the April meeting, John Davila, Elmer Thornton, Tommy Persons and Joe Taff were selected to drive, show and generally take care of the Awesome Shelby while we have it. Joe had to drop out and the elected alternate, Dennis Quattlebaum, has now taken his place. John is the chairman of the group and has already got Gene Messer Ford on board to host the car that Saturday. I expect that we will organize a group of us to take our stangs and escort the car into and out of Lubbock. We may do a display at Gene Messer also, if they want it.
