the “table” Begins Study of Acts By Vicar Michael Heiden

God's church has over 2 billion people in it today! How did it grow to that from 12 disciples? Only a mighty act of God, only the power of the Holy

Spirit can bring that kind of growth. God gives us a glimpse of that power and growth

in the book of Acts. This summer "the table" will be going through Acts. So come and join us as we ask and answer the question, "What happens

when the Holy Spirit fills his church?"

Also this summer, "the table" BBQ in the Court-yard is back starting on Thursday, June 14th. Bob and Donna Oldfield, BBQ experts and mem-bers at Bethlehem, will once again be providing their world-famous BBQ as a blessing to our community! Our courtyard services will occur through September on the first Thursday of the month (other than June). Mark your calendars to come enjoy fantastic food and a unique worship environment.

When can I expect to see the Voters Meeting

information packet?

The Finance Team, Building Committee and Par-ish Planning Council met on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 to discuss the information. It is our plan to have electronic packets made available by Sun-day, June 3, 2012 for all members to review prior to the Voters Meeting on June 19, 2012.

What is included in the Project?

A chapel, central commons with a coffee house, school classrooms and administration space, a welcome center, bathrooms, and storage, etc.

What is driving this project?

Our 3 key environments for spiritual growth are behind The Next Door Project because we be-lieve this is where people will experience fullness of life in Jesus. Worship is a priority with the de-sire to retain a chapel that is more closely con-

nected to the main campus and a commons that has room to grow for the ―table.‖ Significant rela-tionships and LifeGroups are a priority as re-flected by the need for a commons/multi-use space. Our School ministries are a priority as we seek to expand our already-full Early Learning Center and accommodate the growth in our school. Security and accessibility are priorities, particularly with our children, families and mobil-ity-challenged individuals.

How do we know what God’s will is?

For years we have been praying for God’s lead-ing and direction. We have a LifeGroup commit-ted solely to praying for this project and God’s vision for Bethlehem. In hundreds of meetings we have solicited expert counsel from people in finance, architecture, ministry initiatives, funding and project management. While godly people may come to different conclusions at times, we believe God will lead the clear majority to a Spirit-driven decision that is God’s will.

Marie will be moving into a 5 bedroom home on 24 S. Newland St. in Lakewood, along with her two daughters and three sons. Marie moved to Denver in April 2005 from Liberia and has been working very hard since, in order to be able to bring her children to the U.S. They all arrived together about one year ago. She is still working towards being able to help her husband come to the U.S. as well.

Marie is an unbelievably hard worker and is so dedicated to achieving her dreams, including her dream of homeowner-ship. She currently works two jobs as a CNA, at Bethesda Lutheran Communities, where she has been for 2 years, as well as at CLC Johnson Center providing in home care for the last 5 years. Her work ethic has certainly carried on in her children, some of whom are working and going to college. Her oldest daughter is studying Medicine at Arapahoe Com-munity College and her 18 year old son is studying Business Administration there as well. Marie’s oldest son, who already began college in Liberia, is studying to complete his educa-tion at Colorado State University, where he is majoring in Bi-ology.

Marie heard about the Habitat home ownership opportunity through her church and came to orientation right away. Since then, she has been an amazing partner family, working many hours on the construction site and taking some of her kids to help out as well. This family is so excited to be moving into their new home!

LWML Update by Janet Krogh

Thank you, members of Bethlehem, for all your support with the ingathering of underwear in May. All these items will be taken to the LWML District Convention in El Paso, TX in June. Your prayers and support are requested for our dele-gates, Kay Koch and Patricia Wulf.

Even though our group does not hold monthly meetings in June, July, or August, the Mite boxes will still be available where you may drop your coins and bills. If you have any questions, please contact Janet Krogh, Kay Koch, or Jean Waltman. Your support has been greatly appreci-ated.

We invite any women to join us beginning Sept. 25 at 7:00pm in the Chapel Fellowship Hall. Or, you can go online to www.lwml.org to check out this organization and join there. We are privi-leged to take part in inspirational Bible studies, or hear wonderful speakers.

Our speaker at our April meeting was the Univer-sity Lutheran Chapel pastor from Boulder, Pastor Bornup. He spoke of his congregation make-up of students and professors at the University of

Colorado. He expressed his great appreciation for the support of the District LWML grant money of $6,000, which is much needed, as most stu-dents do not have regular funds to support a church. The District has had to reduce their sup-port of his church, so they depend on several congregations in the District who do send some money to them as their mission out-reach. He invited any-one to join them when his church holds ser-vices on Sunday eve-ning, or any Bible studies (also in the evening, as students are busy in class during the day!). One Bible study is held in a bar. Others are at the chapel, which they are VERY thankful to have right on campus located very near the football stadium. So students walking by each day have a regular reminder of that presence.

Hearing of how much the LWML mites are needed for mission projects such as this one re-minds us to continue to drop in our mites and pray for God's continued blessings on them.

Mean Street Speaks to Mary Martha by Jean Wendelin

The Mary Martha members had some wonderful refreshments to start off our April meeting. We heard a devotion from Pastor Ahlman and then

James Fry spoke to the ladies about Mean Street Minis-try. The ladies learned how impor-tant this ministry is to our community and to our church.

The following members were elected as officers for Mary Martha starting in September, 2012:

President—Jean Wendelin, 1st Vice-President—

Rita Borer, 2nd

Vice-Presidents—Patricia Wulf and JoAnn Rutherford, Secretary—Diana Crisler, and Treasurer—Lorraine Clark. These officers were installed at our May brunch which was the final meeting for this year. We had wonderful goodies supplied by the Mary Martha members. The meeting was attended by forty six members and five guests. We will have a Bake Sale in July with the proceeds benefiting the school to help with registration and tuition. We encourage any women in the congregation to join our group on Sept. 11 at 9am in the PAC.

Promises by Sherri Wells

I was reading the other day about promises in my Amazing Grace book sub-titled A Treasury of Promises and Blessings. The dictionary defines a promise as a commitment by some-one to do or not do something. It seems pretty simple enough. However, not always so simple for us.

When I was younger, my older sister and I made a promise to each other that we would go to Hawaii together before either one of us got married and we would never get our ears pierced. Well, she was married the day after she graduated from college, and some time not so long after that, she got her ears pierced. Neither one of us has yet to go to Hawaii, and although I still do not have pierced ears, for various rea-sons the promises we made to each other were broken.

Also when I was younger, it was a tradition that a promise ring was given when a young man promised to only date one young lady, and many times, the promise symbol-ized by that ring ended up lasting until the couple were engaged to be mar-ried, a vow which the dictionary de-fines as a ―special kind of promise.‖

When we make a promise to some-one, we genuinely, with all our heart, intend to keep that promise. The only thing is, we humans many times find that keeping a promise made is very difficult and for one reason or another, the promises we make get broken.

Our loving Heavenly Father, on the other hand, is the God of promise. He keeps his word, even when it seems impossible. During the 2012/2013 LifeLight year, we will be studying vari-ous Psalms. Psalm 145:13 says ―The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does.‖

As you begin the summer, remember the multitude of bless-ings and unfailing love poured out to you from our God and Father who never breaks his promises. ―He loves us with unfailing love; the Lord’s faithfulness endures forever.‖ Psalm 117:2

I am looking forward to studying the Psalms; they are filled with so many of God’s promises to us, his children. We hope you will join us for this journey through the Psalms.

Farewell and . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Fond Farewell

Bethlehem school has four teachers who we are saying goodbye to this year.

At the beginning of May we had a celebration honoring the many years of teaching and service that Denny and Kathy Breidert have given to Bethlehem. It is with much sadness and joy we say goodbye. We will all miss the ―Happy Good Morn-ings‖ of Mr. B and the ―It will be alright, eve-rything is okay‖ words and attitude of Mrs. B. However, we wish them both much joy and happiness as they embark on the next journey in their lives — retirement.

This year we are also saying goodbye to Mrs. Kasper, al-though hopefully only for a time. As many of you know, she gave birth earlier this year to a beautiful baby girl, Claire. She has made the decision to stay home with Claire at least for a little while. We wish her well on her role as a mother and wife and hope that she returns to teaching at Bethlehem soon.

The last person we are saying goodbye to is Mrs. Bell. We have had the privilege of having Mrs. Bell join our teaching staff part time this year and assist Mrs. Kasper during her maternity leave and then team teaching in the afternoons with her as well. Although we are saying goodbye to her as a part-time teacher, she will still be very active in the school ministries. She will be substituting and volunteering with us regularly and for that we are very excited.

Welcome

As you have probably already guessed, we are welcoming three new teachers to the faculty of the school, Amy Schredl, Krista Freitag and Kimberlee Cobb. Please join me in wel-coming these three ladies to our school and congregation this summer. (See next page for bios on new teachers.)

Hello, my name is Amy Schredl. I have been teaching in the Lutheran schools in Colorado for 8 years. I grew up in the Lu-theran school system here in Denver and attended Denver Lutheran High School. I received my un-dergraduate and graduate degrees from Colorado Christian University. In my free time I enjoy play-ing volleyball, scrapbooking, and traveling with my wonderful husband. I am excited to have the opportunity to teach at Bethlehem. I look forward to being able to share God’s word with my stu-dents and their families.

Hello, my name is Krista Freitag. I am a Spring 2012 graduate from Concordia Uni-versity Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Arts in Lutheran secondary education mathe-matics, with minors in English language arts and theology. As the daughter of professional church workers, I have lived all over the country, although I

consider Puyallup, WA home. I have a love for Christ and people. I look forward to being able to experience both of these at Bethlehem. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, sports – especially basketball, and traveling. One of my goals is to be on all six inhabited continents before I die. I feel blessed to be joining the Bethlehem ministry as a 7/8

th grade math teacher.

Hello, my name is Kimberlee Cobb. I am a native Colo-rado girl and grew up in Vail with my parents and younger brother. I received my bache-lor’s degree in Lib-eral Studies from Concordia University, Irvine. I went on to receive my Masters in Education and Clear California Teaching Credential when I started teaching 1st grade at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Orange CA. I moved to 3rd grade two years ago and have continued to teach at St. Paul's for the past 5 years. My husband and I were married in Colo-rado the summer of 2007. I feel truly blessed to share God's love with my students each day.

Welcome! by Michelle Fischer
