President’s Message:

The dog days of summer have hit us with a vengeance. This early summer heat has zapped all our energy making it difficult to be outdoors for any length of time. What a wonderful time to grab all those business cards from all those networking events you’ve attended and either log them into a database so you can run labels for a mailing or send them an email or maybe even a phone call. So stay cool and productive at the same time!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our Spring Fair event. Our local coupon book is a huge success and if you don’t have one, please make an effort to stop by Eastern Savings Bank to pick up a copy before they are all gone. We still have approx. 500 left of the original 5000 and if anyone needs more for their customers, please let me know. We encourage everyone to visit our advertisers and take advantage of all the local dining and services coupons in the book.

Special thanks to Dave Foertsch for keeping all our social media pages up to date. View photos from the spring fair on our Facebook page. Thanks to your Board of Directors Kim Durham, Darlene Conner and Sharon Kozlowski for all their hard work on the fair set up and most of all to all our husbands (and my mom and dad) who helped set up and tear down the event. Thanks to members Auggie Chesser who helped with signage and Robert Smith who helped with out OFBPA table.

Reminder that our monthly meeting is Wed. June 15th at 4: 30 pm at Overlea Station located at 6900 Belair Road (21206). Parking at the Natural History Museum-entrance just prior to corner. For those interested Overlea Station offers ½ price burgers on Wednesday nights. Guest Speaker will be Steve Janowiak, President of CLUB 10 LLC; a one-of-a-kind model that helps small businesses and is 100% free and non-obligating for businesses to participate Note: this is a change of location from originally posted on our website.

$13,000 is still needed for this year’s celebration! We need all resources at our disposal. We are looking for business that will “host” a collection jar for change until July 5th. I would like to place 7+ containers in the area to help collect change from the community. If you do not have a container, have walk-in traffic and can give us a tiny bit of counter space for a few weeks, we would sure appreciate it! Perry Hall and Parkville and Rosedale-we would love to hear from YOU! Even though the event is held in Overlea Fullerton and we take “ownership” of the event, we host over 50,000 people that day from all over NE Baltimore County. The OFBPA provides the plastic container and will collect during the week after the fireworks. Contact Donna Bethke and we will drop one off ASAP. Thanks to all the businesses who are hosting one currently!

If you know of a new businesses on our corridor, please let us know so we can stop in and say hi! Reminder that all folks who are members by late summer will be in our newest 2011-2012 Business & Community Guide coming out late summer. Everyone has the opportunity to advertise, but all members get three free listing automatically. Need to join or renew your membership? Now is the time. Forms online at www.ofbpa.com. News from

Senator Kathy Klausmeier 8th Legislative District

My office has received the following information from the Maryland Transportation Authority (MdTA) regarding the proposed toll

increase for the bridges and tunnels that MdTA operates and the public hearings that will be held this summer regarding the

proposal. If you are concerned about this proposed increase, I encourage you to either attend one of the public hearings or submit

a comment to the MdTA during the official public comment period. I have already sent a letter to Governor O’Malley and to MdTA

Chair Beverley Swaim-Staley expressing my displeasure with this proposal. In my letter I asked that the MdTA consider the

hardship this proposal will have on Maryland commuters.

INCREASES FORMALLY PROPOSED FOR MARYLAND TOLL FACILITIES

Plan calls for phased-in toll increases in 2011, 2012 and 2013 MDTA to hold nine public hearings in June; 60-day public comment

period now open through 5 p.m. Aug. 1

“By phasing in these toll increases, we are not only giving our drivers and trucking partners the most time to plan as possible, but

we are working to simplify our toll-collection process with uniform toll rates at our facilities,” said MDTA Acting Executive

Secretary Randolph P. Brown, P.E. “Operationally, we’re also focused on streamlining the process and eliminating antiquated toll-

collection methods and technology, including AVI decals and ticket programs.”

A 60-day public-comment period begins June 2 and continues through 5 p.m. Aug. 1, 2011. The public can submit comments for

the official record via a web form at www.mdta.maryland.gov or by writing to MDTA Toll Comments, 2310 Broening Highway,

Baltimore, MD 21224. The MDTA Board also will hold nine public hearings throughout the State to receive public and private

testimony on the proposal.
