Dear New Generation Friends,
I don’t have to tell everyone
that the United States economy
and the state wide budget cuts
are effecting non profit organi-
zations like New Generation.
But I would like to share what
New Generation has done over
the past year to further ―tighten
our belts‖ so that we can con-
tinue to provide our essential
services to homeless pregnant
and newly parenting women
and their babies.
We’ve partnered with the state
food bank to reduce food costs
by almost $200 per month.
We’ve utilized more volunteers
to provide transportation to
reduce the usage of gas and
wear and tear on our agency
vehicle. We have even
changed the paper we use to
send you this newsletter! I
could go on and on with the
details of what has been done to
keep New Generation shelter
functioning well and at the same
time functioning in the most
fiscally responsible way possi-
ble.
I hope that as you read this you
are encouraged by our frugal
behaviors, that you feel that we
contact Kristi at (603) 436-4989
or [email protected]. Sec-
ond Generation also has loca-
tions at 9 Tide Mill Road in
Greenland and 779 Lafayette
Road in Seabrook. Please re-
member that every purchase
you make and every item you
donate to Second Generation
helps to keep New Genera-
tion’s shelter doors open to
those in need.
Second Generation Shoppe in
Rochester is moving to a new
location in early July! Please
keep an eye out for the open-
ing date and location . If you’d
like to receive an email alert
once we have official details,
please email of-
[email protected]. We will
also post the news on our web-
site as it becomes available.
We will have a grand re-
opening celebration at our
new location, including give-a-
ways, refreshments, and a raf-
fle to win a new grill for any-
one who brings in their gently
used donations for resale. We
will still be open for normal
business hours at 25 Old Dover
Road through the month of
June.
If you would like to volunteer
for Second Generation, please

NEW GEN NEWS Your Conne ction to New Gene r ation Shel ter
Dear supporters and
friends,
What a busy year it has
been at New Genera-
tion! Since January, we
have welcomed 4 new babies and 9
women. The staff has been busy at work,
providing case management, parenting
education, transportation, and life skills
training to these women. We have seen
our residents improve their lives by mov-
ing on into permanent housing, furthering
their education, and improving their par-
enting skills.
The staff and board of New Generation
have been working tirelessly to constantly
improve our services and our home for the
most vulnerable of the population. One
issue we have been addressing is that of
safety. We have made a number of
changes to make the house itself safer for
our important residents, including sprin-
kler system updates, the installation of an
emergency egress, and installation of an
emergency generator. All of this has been
necessary, but costly, especially given our
current economic climate. I want to thank
all of you for supporting us to enable us to
make these safety improvements.
We will also be implementing an evidence
-based curriculum into our parenting edu-
cation program. Implementing this pro-
gram will strengthen the outcomes for
families at New Generation, as evidence-
based programs have proven track re-
cords for getting results. Thanks to a grant
from the Seacoast Rotary Club in Ports-
mouth, we are able to send our Parent Edu-
cation Coordinator to Boston to attend the
three-day facilitator workshop, so that we
can deliver this program right out of the
shelter.
We will continue to work tirelessly to help
those most in need, and we are forever
grateful for your support in helping us
make that happen. This fall will mark the
beginning of our 25th year of service, and
although we hope the social issue of home-
lessness is addressed before another 25
years, with your support we will continue
to offer a safe haven for those in need for
as long as there is a need that exists.
Sincerely,
Dave Duggan Volunteer of the Year Award

For the last two years New Generation and
it’s residents have had the honor of work-
ing with volunteer June Jones.
June comes to the house and provides
child care for the babies when their moms
have appointments or employment. The
mothers and babies come to know June,
and each one is touched by her gentle
nature and caring spirit. When June is
called in, we always know the mother is at
ease to leave her child, and the child
bonds with June and will welcome her with
a smile.
When asked why she devotes her free time
to New Generation, June supplied the fol-
lowing statement:

I moved to Greenland about two years ago
and after reading an advertisement in the
local paper asking for volunteers to help out
at New Generation I knew this was exactly
how I wanted to spend my free time. The
staff is always friendly and welcoming and I
have seen first hand how the shelter has
helped many mothers and babies. I am al-
ways delighted when the office phones me
with a request for babysitting and I never
feel I would rather be doing something else.
It’s hard not to get attached to the babies
and their mothers before they move on and
each one becomes a special memory to me.
I am very happy to be a part of the New
Generation family, June.

Nineteen-year-old Allie came to us in Octo-
ber, 2010. She had just broken up with her
boyfriend when she found herself preg-
nant. She made the decision to come to
New Generation where she would have
access and transportation to medical care,
and where she could regroup and decide
what is next in her young life.
While at New Gen, Allie participated in the
program and learned all she could about
parenting. ―I have that natural instinct to
care for my baby, but the staff and parent-
ing education has given me the confidence
I need,‖ says Allie. ―I am also more moti-
vated because I have my baby to think of,
and the staff helped me believe in myself.
I never thought I would go to college, but
with New Gen’s help, I am now enrolled to
go to Great Bay in the fall.‖ Allie will study

and long term shelter, daily meals, as well
as love and warmth for our women and
babies.
If each of us took just a tiny portion of our
weekly budgets and diverted funds to in-
vest in these small lives we’d all be com-
bating poverty, joblessness, lack of educa-
tion and creating future generations of
children that will grow to be parents that
also parent well, achieve educational
goals, have careers that add to our econ-
omy and we’d have that type of impact that
goes on generation after generation.
