“Greet One Another”

We're so glad to have our mission team back with us. Nathan will give us a congregational report on their work soon, but this week we are shipping him

off to Teen Week at Western Kentucky Youth Camp. I'm so thankful for camp and the great influence it has been on so many of our young people. Exciting things are

happening at camp these days, too, as we make plans for the future. Find a week of camp and send your kids! We have kids in the youth group headed to Middle School week and I will

be teaching at 8-10 year old week. Sign up at wkyc.org and let's have a fun time at camp! Thanks to Bob McIndoo, Jon Riley Dawson, Rob Dawson, Jon Nunez, Brock Wilkerson and some

other guys for helping to get Margaret Shelton moved last week. It was a lot of hard work in the heat, but many hands really do make light(er) work! It's all part of how church family takes care of each other.

I hope you've enjoyed the first two nights of our Summer Series. The speakers have done excellent jobs sharing their topics and each week has challenged us to help recover the heart of

the New Testament church. Be here this week for the third lesson! -David Salisbury

Your place for weekly news and updates!

So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.

2 Corinthians 5:9-David

Daddy, You Do It

"...I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

Happy Father's Day! In light of the focus our nation puts on dads (at least for today), I wanted to share this story with you from a preacher friend of mine.

We started our little adventure through the neighborhood with Chloe sitting in the wagon and me pulling it. Things quickly went downhill from there. For about half a block, she was content to sit still and let me do all the work. Then she wanted out so she could walk. After about ten minutes of walking, she wanted to pull the wagon. I tried to talk her out of it, but she was so insistent, I finally let her.

It was quite a sight to see. She did very well at the beginning, but she lacked the ability to control its direction. When we went down a hill, the wagon picked up speed and the tires hit her heels, tripping her. Several times I put my hand on the wagon to slow its descent and keep it from running her over, but as soon as she saw my hand on the wagon, she'd scream, "I do it! I do it!"

When we went up a hill, she tugged and tugged, switching the handle from one hand to the other. I asked her if she wanted help, but she refused. Her breath came in short puffs as she pulled the wagon

to the top. I was reminded of "The Little Engine That Could" but instead of "I think I can, I think I can," Chloe's mantra was "I do it, I do it."

Finally she stopped. The wagon's metal handle fell to the street with a "clang." She looked up at me with reddened cheeks and a sweaty brow. Then the three little words I'd been waiting for finally came: "You do it." There was no defeat in her request, just the simple knowledge that her daddy would finish what she'd started. I picked her up and grabbed the wagon handle and carried her home.

How many times do we struggle along through life, pulling a weight our Heavenly Father never intended us to carry? He's waiting for us to admit we can't do it alone and give Him control. There's no defeat in coming to that conclusion, for He's already promised to take our burdens and give us rest for our weary souls. (Matthew 11:28-30)

14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! We hear these verses often, but do we live by them? If we are not living out our faith, then do we really have faith? Do we really have salvation? Or are we just like the demons who believe that God is one, but do not follow His will? We must be a people who are willing to look at our lives and be who God wants us to be. We have to sacrifice. We have to live differently. We have to put our own wants aside. We have to ACT in our faith and be the Christians described in the Bible. If we are not willing to do these things then are we truly God's?

At baptism, we ask a person to make what Paul calls “the good confession” (1 Timothy 6). When Peter confesses “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God” in Matthew 16, Jesus tells him that this understanding the foundation of the church. In Matthew 10, Jesus promises that if we will confess His name before men, He will confess ours before God. If we want Christ to be our king, we must make that decision public.
