  • Heres the perfect gift for Dad and Grandpa: free fishing for all over Fathers Day weekend, June 14-15. There is no better way to enjoy Montana with friends and family than to plan for a day of fishing, said Jeff Hagener, director of Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks in Helena said. You can fish without a license on June 20th and 21st, but you must follow all of Montanas other fishing regulations. In total, each year more than 230,000 residents and 160,000 nonresidents purchase a Montana fishing license. Anglers spend nearly $250 million annually in Montana for things like transportation, food and guide fees. For every dollar spent by FWPs fisheries program, anglers spend an additional $11 benefitting local communities and the states economy. Montanas most popular waters include the Madison, Bighorn, Missouri, Bitterroot and Gallatin rivers; and Canyon Ferry, Flathead, Georgetown, Hauser, and Fort Peck lakes. Montanas fish for free weekend is the states Fathers Day gift to dads everywhere, Hagener said. We want everyone to have a fun time, but were also encouraging folks to check conditions first and to always keep safety as their top concern.

2015 Northeast MontanaPulse Plot Tour on July 1st If you are a producer of pulse crops or are thinking about growing pulse crops, you do not want to miss the annual NE Montana Pulse Plot Tour on Wednesday, July 1 at the Richland Fertilizer Plant in Richland. The day will begin at 9:30 AM with a visit to the Pulse Plot. Dr. Chengci Chen, New Director Eastern Ag Research Center in Sidney, MT will review the results of past plots and give participants a look at how this years plot is progressing. Growers will have a chance to inspect the plot and judge for themselves the different varieties of field peas, lentils and chickpeas and how they respond to the growing conditions in NE Montana. Following the visit to the plot, the tour will return to the PRO CO-OP Fertilizer Plant in Richland, MT for the remainder of the program with guest speakers from MSU Extension and the Montana Salinity Association. Speakers and topics will include Mary Burrows, MSU Extension Pathologist, will be discussing pulse crop diseases and the NEW Pulse Lab services at MSU Bozeman. Ed Davis, MSU Ag Specialist Cropland Weeds, continues to travel the state of Montana, developing plots and collecting data on how weeds respond in cropland to different control measures especially herbicide trials. Saline seeps and how the grower can manage those conditions is the topic that Jane Holzer, Montana Salinity Control Association, will present to the participants. This is an increasing concern in many parts of NE Montana. The tour will conclude with a catered lunch. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day. Two private and two commercial pesticide recertification points are offered. For more information call Shelley Mills, Valley County Extension, 406-228-6241 ([email protected]) or Bobbie Roos, Daniels County Extension, 406-487-2861 ([email protected])

Weve got four Scotty wrestlers that are attending the Eagle Wrestling Camp in Sidney: Scotty sophomore Matt Reyling, senior Cody King and incoming freshmen O.E. Hallock and Trevor Overvold. The week-long Intensive Camp got underway today and is designed to push wrestlers to the next level with live duals on June 22nd. This camp features an all-star line-up of instructors including Sidneys own Brandon Eggum who is now the Head Assistant Coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He was a three-time Class A State Champion for the Eagles, and a three-time All-American and four-year letter winner for the Golden Gophers from 1997 to 2000. Competing internationally also brought Eggum acclaim, as he took home the silver medal at the 2001 World Freestyle Championships. He placed second at the 2002 Pan American Freestyle Championships and third at the 2003 U.S. National Freestyle Championships. Scott Schiller is a two-time All American and currently ranked #1 in the nation. Adam Aho is the University of Mary head wrestling coach. And of course youve got MHSA Hall of Famer Guy

Melby, Head Coach of the Sidney Eagles... need we say more? Once the Sidney Camp is over, King and Reyling will continue on to Minnesota where they will be working out to wrestle for Team Montana to compete in the National Duals Tournament at Disney World in Orlando, Florida June 24th-July 3rd. There will be 150 teams in attendance with two days of pool wrestling, then two days of bracket wrestling. What is great about the National Duals is that each wrestler will have 15-20 matches. Cody and Matt will be facing the best competition of their high school careers.
