Reinventing Art Creatively Transcending & Recycling Requirements For Enrollment* 1) Saxophone (Alto, Tenor, or Baritone), Trumpet, Trombone, Flute, Clarinet, Drums, Piano and/or vibes, Guitar, Bass (upright and/or electric) 2) Must provide own instrument (unless the student is currently enrolled in the Millikan Band Program) 3) Must have at least one year of experience on the instrument 4) Middle School (Age 10 to 14 and also includes graduating 8th graders) 5) Students interested in learning to play a second instrument** * Contact us for evaluation for Jazz program at: [email protected] or (818)-799-8351 (Elective classes do not require musical evaluation) an intensive program for middle school* musicians to learn and develop the foun- dations of jazz music and performance. Students will play and perform in an ensemble and will take classes including Jazz Sight Reading, Improvisation, Jazz History, “How to Practice,” and Ensemble with inspiration, materials and pathways camp has ended. Class Description and skills that are vital to understanding and performing jazz music. Every student will of ability and/or skill level. Jazz Sight Reading: Sight read the great jazz standards in many styles: swing, Latin, help students improve their sight reading as well as their understanding of how to interpret chord changes. How To Practice: What’s the point of practicing if you’re not going to improve? Learn how to practice correctly! In this class students will learn the importance of preparation for performances, prac- tice methods and changing perspective. Students will leave this class READY TO PERFORM!! Improvisation: interactive immersion into the art of jazz and improvisation. Students will learn how to play through chord changes and will explore techniques of the masters. Jazz History: To understand the Jazz language, you must listen. In this class, we will spend time listening to the music of the great giants and discussing the history and development of Jazz. Ensemble Class: Rehearsals to prepare techniques and skills, such as soloing and improvisation, connecting with the rhythm section, form, and stylistic accuracy. Elective Classes Include Dance: Ballet, Jazz/Lyrical, Modern dance (Dunham: Afro Caribbean, Horton, Graham), Tap, Hip Hop, Swing, Salsa, Indonesian and other Cultural Dances.
