PAUL SCHOLTZ:Paul Scholtz, US Missionary and Chaplain to Rodeos passed away June 17th. The memorial service was conducted June 22nd at his home church, Praise Assembly of God in Pueblo, CO under the leadership of his pastor Steve Chavez. Paul was the f irst US Missionary appointed to the rodeo circuit and spent his ministry life together with his wife Linda reaching countless people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The large attendance at his funeral service Is a testament to his expansive inf luence.I believe Paul is now enjoying the full expression of the incredible gift of eternal life received through faith in Jesus Christ. And, I believe he is also hearing our Lord say “well done good and faithful servant” as a result of his faithful obedience to Jesus Christ. Par t of Paul’s legacy is the inspiration he provides to his colleagues in the ministry. I am thankful for Paul and may we all be encouraged by his example. “Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58.

SUMMER MINISTRY:Network camps are in full swing and I pray God uses each one to impact young people for Jesus Christ. If you are not fully aware of these ministry oppor tunities for your church, there is more information in this RMMN Connection edition and on our web site at www.rmdc.org.

FATHER’S DAY REFLECTIONS:In the shadow of Father’s Day, I f ind myself ref lecting on the signif icance of God assuming the role of our Father. Much of our identity is wrapped up in our ear thly father and much of our behavior is the product of his inf luence. As Christians, a new fatherly inf luence is brought to bear upon our lives and his inf luence brings health and well-being. You and I have a perfect heavenly Father. The inf luence of the heavenly Father is vividly por trayed in his relationship with his only begotten son, Jesus Christ. From their relationship, we learn the characteristics of our Father in heaven and his desired inf luence upon us. Fur thermore, the heavenly Father provides the ultimate example for ear thly fathers to emulate.

The Father exercised authority over the Son. Jesus said, “For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.” (Jn 6:38). The Father’s authority was rooted in love, wisdom, and servanthood. It was not self ish or suffocating. The expression of the Father’s authority and the acceptance of that authority by the Son resulted in protection, guidance, wisdom, and enablement. Our surrender to the

GOD

THEFATHER

authority of God is realized when we live under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and seek to obey God’s direction. He is your ultimate and safe authority.

The Father loved the Son. At the baptism of Jesus, the Father declared from heaven, “This is my Son whom I love…” (Mt 3:17) and Jesus said, “For the Father loves the Son…” (Jn 5:20). The Father revealed his love for his Son and the Son lived in this for tifying fact. We all yearn to hear our ear thly father say, “I love you”. God, our heavenly Father shouts “I love you”; he declared it clearly in the death of his Son Jesus Christ on the cross, even while we were away from him. He loves you.

The Father gave the Son a perfect example to follow. Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees the Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.” (Jn 8:28). That example included openness on the par t of the Father for Jesus also said, “For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does…” (Jn 5:20). There was no mystery about his Father; the Son knew who he was. And the Father shared instruction with his Son. Jesus said, “…I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.” (Jn8:28). He provides a life-giving example to follow.

The Father was present with his Son. “…You will leave me all alone (Jesus said to his disciples). Yet, I am not alone for my Father is with me.” (Jn 16:32). A father’s presence is desired and needed. Our heavenly Father is always present in the promise of Jesus to never leave us or forsake us, and the personal presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling within God’s children. He is always with you.

And the Father honored the Son. “And a voice from heaven said, ‘this is my Son whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’” (Mt 3:17). The Father declared his pleasure with his Son publicly. What an incredible boost. A father’s approval is a deep seeded need within us all. “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus. In order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.” (Eph 2:6-7). Your heavenly Father honors you.

Rejoicing in our great God,

Early summer means missions trips in Chi Alpha and we have seen a number of teams go out this last month. These trips are central to forming a generation of young people who have a hear t and vision to transform the world for Christ. As our students step out of their comfor t zones and get a hear t for the lost in this world, they also become more impactful at their home campuses. CSU’s Chi Alpha has sent out six missions teams this year. Below are a couple repor ts from those trips.

We had students go to Mexico this last month to serve a campus ministry effor t. While there they came across a young man who was in a wheelchair. He had seriously injured his leg and was unable to walk when our students walked up to him and asked if they could pray for him. While the young man was not a believer he allowed them to pray for him, and then God did what this young man couldn’t believe. He stood up with his leg healed! Our team mentioned how later on their trip they hiked up a mountain, and while this young man couldn’t join them when they f irst depar ted, he ran up the mountain later on to catch up to them. You can imagine how their ability to share the love of Christ was signif icantly enhanced with the example of the Lord’s power.

In Russia we had the oppor tunity to go to a couple locations where we had former XA CSU students serving. One of the focuses of our shor t term teams is to give a boost to the effor ts of the local M’s and the relationships they have developed. The day that our teams arrived in Russia one of our former students serving as an M had a Muslim

friend become a brother! This was the f irst Muslim the team had seen become a brother in that par t of the country. Our team was able to celebrate with and encourage this new brother in his commitment!

Thank you for all you do to par tner with us as we continue to serve university students around the network and beyond!

Itinerating Missionaries

As our Network celebrates our 100th year, we will be look-ing back at a few of the missionary heroes from our past. This month we celebrate the lives of Ken and Jeri Godbey.

KEN AND JERI GODBEY

Kenneth Godbey and Jeri Morean met as students while attending CSU in Ft. Collins. They were married in 1932. On a cold winter night in 1936 the Godbey’s went to the altar at First Assembly of God in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Not long after, they became aware that the Lord wanted them in full time ministry. In 1939 the Godbey’s attended an A/G camp meeting in Byron, Wisconsin where they heard that missionaries were urgently needed in Nigeria. They felt they needed to respond, but felt they needed more ministry experience. In January of 1941 the Godbey’s became the pastors of First Assembly in Greeley.

By 1944 the Godbey’s were ready to go to Nigeria. However, WWII was at its height. The U.S. government issued passports for Ken and Jeri, but because of the hazard of travel during wartime, off icials refused to issue a passport to their 5 year old son Keith. The missions committee promised to send Keith as soon as a passport was granted. After much prayer, and aware of the great need in Africa, Keith and Jeri made what had to be one of the most diff icult decisions of their lives and left their son with an aunt and uncle in Wisconsin as they set sail for Africa. After the war ended in 1945, a missionary brought Keith to Africa to reunite with his parents.

A few years later Ken would become the secretary of the Assemblies of God of Nigeria. Not long after the Godbey’s moved to the Ogoja Province - a very primitive 900 square mile region with no born again believers. Here they established a church. To meet the needs of this area, Nigeria Bible Institute was opened with Ken as the principal.

By 1960 most of the 70 churches in this area were self supporting, self governing, and self propagating. Little by little the pastors

of this region became district leaders.

Time will not permit to tell all the experiences of Ken and Jeri over the next number of years. A couple of experiences are worthy of mention - Ken and Jeri were kept safe during times of civil war in the nation when thousands upon thousands of people died. Ken’s life was spared when in 1971 a fuel tank on a kerosene refrigerator exploded and Ken became a living torch.

In spite of the war that was raging in Nigeria, a testimony to Ken and Jeri’s lives work can be seen as we read about the January 1971 meeting of the pastors and churches of the Eastern District of Nigeria. At this meeting 90 ministers plus delegates from more than 120 churches met. Off icers were chosen - and all the off icers were Nigerian. All of this began when Ken and Jeri stepped on Nigerian soil.

In January of 1978, when Ken and Jeri were well past retirement age, they transferred to West Germany to minister to U.S. servicemen stationed near the then hostile Iron Curtain. Their actual retirement took place in 1983 when they returned to the States. However, someone forgot to explain to Ken what retirement means. Upon returning to the U.S. Ken became the Associate Pastor of Calvary Assembly in Springf ield, Missouri.

for the Lost

Mark your calendars for 2018! There will be a National Seniors Conference in Branson September 4, 5, and 6, 2018. Don’t get left out as so many did in 2016. Details will be announced as soon as they are available.

Remember from last issue, “God can use you to your full potential. Besides you aren’t the message, you are just the messenger!”

Let’s take a look at some of the ministry oppor tunities that are available to us. Don’t get the idea that it is necessary to give up fellowship and special outings. They are impor tant, but there is more!

to persons conf ined to senior living or nursing homes. Did you know that a high percentage of souls in these facilities never have a personal visit from friends or family. We can read to them, play board games, or just plain talk to them.

at food banks, schools or hospitals. Recently I had the oppor tunity to help at a local high school career connect class doing mock employment interviews. Hospitals have many volunteer oppor tunities, including ladies to rock infants in newborn nurseries.

usually we think of world missions as being the ones needing this service, but we have several Network churches who need a helping hand. A Denver Metro church recently took a team (mostly 2nd Halfers) to help one of our churches. The church was abundantly blessed and the team grew spiritually and came away with a great feeling of accomplishment. Jesus didn’t pull any punches about this being a requirement of the Church. See Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-18; and Acts 1:7 & 8.

Just a couple of ideas in letting God use us even in later years. I will present more ideas later.

We still need your help. We have requests from RMMN missionaries for funds to accomplish the mission that God has called them to. These requests total more than $20,000.00 and the funds are not currently available, as we continue to fund on a cash only basis.

Please help today. Sent to your offering to Light for the Lost, 1445 N. Booneville Ave., Springf ield, MO 65802. Mark to Project 2970 – RKMT WHERE NEEDED MOST.
