SCIENCEWORKS EXCURSION GR.5’s...At last we arrived at ScienceWorks. We had planned a great day there and I couldn’t wait to get in. We have gone to ScienceWorks twice this year including now. We were split into 2 groups before we left which meant that both groups would be doing separate activities at different times. When we arrived at Science Works, we all put our bags down, ate our recess snacks and headed to our first activity. My group’s first activity was a show called Cool Stuff. At Cool Stuff there was a man named Chris. Chris was quite funny and he taught us about a chemical called Liquid Nitrogen. Liquid Nitrogen is a very cold liquid. It boils at room temprature and is -196 degrees celsius, BRRR that is cold!!! Anyways Chris told us that Liquid Nitrogen is so cold that it can even burn your hand, make it black then make the hand not respond to the brain. This is called frostbite. We all thought that was really interest-ing. We had a nice 'Liquid Nitrogen' session at Cool Stuff & we all had a lot of questions for Chris which he happily answered.

After Cool Stuff we enjoyed 1 whole hour at General Viewing. We started from ol’ SportsWorks then moved on to…BACK-YARD ADVENTURES. Most of you must be saying what’s Backyard Adventures but don’t worry, I’ll tell you about it. First there’s this scary spider that will scare you more than anything, but don’t worry it’s not real. After that we played a bee game where you sit on a fake bee and fly through a backyard. It was so life-like. Then we played another appealing game where you had to choose an animal or an insect from the machine that survives by eating prey. I played twice and realised that the but-terfly was the insect that survived the most. Find the rest out yourself on YOUR next trip to ScienceWorks (Don’t miss out).

Then we visited Explore-a-Sauras. Yep, explore the Dinosaurs. Have you ever wondered how dinosaurs became extinct? The truth is that they aren’t (Well at least that’s what it said there.)It said that living birds are dinosaurs. But please don’t be scared of birds. We then went to dig out fossils of dinosaurs. You read right, they were fossils. Ribs, Legs, Toes, Hands and any other dino bones but obviously they were not the real ones. It was such fun looking for fossils that we could’ve done it for hours but there was a long queue so we had to keep it short.

We all learnt a lot of interesting facts at Science Works. We had an absolutely fun day and I think that everyone must thank the grade 5 teachers for this GREAT excursion. ZAKARIYA ISAAQ 5B

THE HUMAN BODY The year 8A and 8C students went on an excursion to IMAX to watch a 2D

documentary on the Human body. The documentary took the students on a fantastic

voyage detailing the speeding impulse of a brain cell racing at 250 miles-per-hour,

the quivering dance of hairs in our ear, the 100-mile trek of a red blood cell through

our vast, tangled network of veins, arteries and capillaries and the miraculous

genetic fusion of parental DNA

that signals the beginning of a

unique new life. The

complexities of the human

body were explored by

investigating the many

different functions that

keep our bodies running

from dawn to dusk. The

documentary was effective in stimulating the children's minds and was

engaging with the use of filmmaking techniques, combined with the latest medical

and scientific imaging. Students learned that all these extraordinary occurrences are

routine events for our bodies, which peaked their interests and helped them view the

body differently. They thoroughly enjoyed the documentary and it was a great way

to expand their knowledge as it revised topics covered in class.

Excursion to Victoria University

The Year 8ACE Science students had an educational and inspirational experience at Victoria University, St. Albans campus on the 21st of July. The students attended a program developed by the School of Biomedical and Health Sciences. The excursion aimed to inspire and cultivate students to investigate and analyse the world around them and extend their natural curiosity in science.

Under the supervision of Victoria University academics, students conducted insightful experiments on the eye, illusions, nutrition and the skeletal system. To visualize the structure and features of the eye, students observed an eye dissection. They studied the concept of illusion and through activities discovered how it can deceive visual perception. The importance of nutrients was also explored by performing tests that involved detecting starch and fat in food samples. The students also examined the features and structure of bones by conducting various tests.

Overall, the excursion was a great success. The students really enjoyed the hands-on and interactive activities. It provided them with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and develop experimental techniques, which will help in future learning.

We have been involved in lots of fun activities during science week.

This year, theme for science week is ‘React to Chemistry’.

Our enthusiastic junior scientists are presenting their projects on Thursday. Come along and join us between 11am to 1pm.

The Primary school will celebrate Science at Ilim College by conducting rotational activities in the classrooms. Students will be able to see different experiments and carry them out by visiting their year level classes.

Müdür’ün Mesajı

Esselamu Aleyküm.Sayın veliler, öğrenciler ve okul personeli,

Herkese 3.
