Happy 40th Birthday,
Memphis Classic Chevy Club!!!
Congratulations are in order!
Many significant events have occurred over the last 40 years in the life of Memphis Classic
Chevy Club. When the club had been in existence for only two years, it hosted the 1978
Classic Chevy National Convention at the Hyatt Regency! MCCC also hosted the Bowtie
Chevy Club National Convention in 1996. While MCCC was originally created as a Tri-Five
Club, it has expanded to include models up to ‘72. In 2004 MCCC merged with another local
club, the Late Great Chevy Club. A number of the LGCC members are still active with MCCC!
Thursday night cruise ins started around 2003 in Bartlett at Stage and Kirby Whitten with just
a handful of participants. It seemed to grow exponentially over the years. MCCC joined with
James Hicks and his annual car shows that benefited the Tennessee Baptist Children’s home,
a non-profit organization that receives no governmental funding. MCCC has been very active
helping and hosting events at Memphis International Raceway, such as Hot Rod Power Tour
and Super Chevy. Because of the love of their vehicles, their participation, and willingness to
help, as well as the generosity of our sponsors, Memphis Classic Chevy Club members and
participants raised and contributed over $18,000 in 2015 to our two charities. Congratula-
tions, Memphis Classic Chevy Members! YOU are making a difference in our community!

Ed & Shannon Cotter
Ed & Shannon’s beautiful ‘57 was originally sold in the 60’s by his father’s
cousin at Cotter Chevrolet in Ridgeway, Illinois to a man who worked in
Product Development for GM. He used it for his weekend driver. He began its
10 year restoration in the 90’s with completion in 2000. The man who did
the body work was a Body By Fisher retiree. It was a Concourse restoration.
99% of the parts used are original to the car. Beautiful, ain’t she?!?!?

This was in last month’s issue, but it bears repeating:
For 10 years Memphis Classic Chevy Club met every Thursday night, weather permitting, of
course, at Stage Center Parking lot at Stage and Kirby Whitten. It was the ideal location.
Great traffic, lots of choices for eating, and such. People would happen by and would have to
stop to see all the cool classic cars. With several of the store fronts empty, we had more than
ample room to spread out. As the retail spaces became occupied, we began to have less and
less room. Then the drugstore was built on the corner, and that really took from our available
parking areas. And the riff raff started coming. They brought their jitneys and their poor
social behaviors. We started seeing them speed through the pedestrian filled lot. We saw
them do their smokie burnouts in the midst of other vehicles. We saw them ride on the out-
side of their cars, or on the bumpers, or hanging on to the side. We saw them put 10-15 in
the back of their trucks and ride through the lot. We heard their obnoxious obscenities re-
gardless of who might have been around, including our children. We heard about the trash
that was left on the lot long after we had gone home. Everything had changed. No more did
we have a safe, clean, family friendly atmosphere. We knew it was a matter of time before we
would likely be invited to leave.
Instead, we chose to leave on our own terms and set up at another location at Joe’s Crab
Shack. It was nearly ideal. We were given a large area of the parking lot to be used exclusively
by us. We were provided a security guard to keep the riff raff from invading again. Once again
it was like is should have been: safe and family friendly. But people complained. “It’s too
small.” “You have to deal with Germantown Road traffic.” “There’s only one place to eat and
it’s expensive.” “There’s not enough shade.” “How can you call it the Bartlett Cruise In if it
isn’t in Bartlett?” And so on, and so on….
Another opportunity came about: to have an entire lot to ourselves, have meals designed and
cooked for us at very reasonable prices, security provided, no crazy 5 o’clock traffic to deal
with, and shade trees galore. Most of the businesses close at 5pm, except for the antique
store, which would give us abundant parking and room to grow. Nearly everything that had
been complained about was about to be resolved! Café 4210’s owner, Barry Holbrook,
welcomed us with open arms. The new location is a mere 5-7 minutes north of Stage and
Kirby Whitten. If you haven’t checked it out yet, what are ya waiting for??? You’ll see why
we’re so happy to be here! Every Thursday, weather permitting, from 5pm until 9pm.
Hope to see you soon!!!

Cruise-In Rules & Guidelines
We’re all here to have fun and enjoy our vehicles! Just a few reminders to keep it safe, en-
joyable, and family friendly:
No Cones, Please!
Pick up after yourself! There will be receptacles located around the parking lot.
No smoky burnouts, speeding, or other unsafe activities.
Keep your words sweet– You may have to eat them! (No foul language)
Cruise in Times are from 5pm until 9pm - BPD will have 2 officers there from 5p-9p and will clear the lot at 9.
No Alcohol - Don’t really need to explain this one, do we? :-)
See You On Thursday!!!
We Love Our New Cruise-In Location!!!!
Our MCCC Officers have worked hard to secure a new cruise-in location.
OUR NEW CRUISE-IN LOCATION IS AT
Café 4210 at 4210 ALTURIA at Egypt Central. Barry Holbrook, the owner, former club member, and a car
guy, is so excited to have us and is bending over backward to make it a great experience! He owns the
entire shopping center, including Café 4210. Café 4210 is open for us on Thursday nights. The food is
delicious and Barry, Christina, and Heather do a fabulous job!
The new location offers:
1) Limited access points
2) Bartlett Reserve police officers to monitor activity and address any issues that might come up
3) Large parking area to accommodate large numbers of cars
4) Most of the businesses are closed in the evenings, except Café 4210 (and Southern Vintage Co.,
ladies!), which will be open for us!
5) Café 4210 -Great menu, great prices, great food!
6) Gas station/convenience store next door
7) Lots of shade trees scattered throughout the lot
8) Beautiful setting, calm atmosphere, great gathering place!
We want to encourage you to support Mr. Holbrook’s business on other days, as well. He is working hard
to accommodate us…
It is only right that we support his efforts!
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone there!

In the early days of Memphis Classic Chevy Club patches like these
were available. They were worn proudly on jackets and such and
were a symbol of honor for the club. They told the rest of the world
who you were, where you were from, and what you loved!

It’s been a busy summer!
MCCC members and fans have had lots of opportunities to get their beauties out and show them off
thanks to the efforts of our Events Director, Billy Golden. People don’t realize how much time it takes to
arrange and schedule activities. He gets many, many phone calls asking if our club can come share our
treasures. It can be embarrassing when we have only a handful of participants show up to these events
and support our own club. We should be having a strong showing at each event. After all, we are THE
Memphis Classic Chevy Club! Thank you, Billy Golden, for all you do!!!
