    The McKendree

VineVolume 22 Number 4 July/August 2011Greetings Holy, Healthy and Happy People of God,

I'm excited about sharing another incredible God-sighting!

During our worship experience July 10th at 11:00 am, as we passed the peace ofChrist, I met Sharon and Michael, from Georgetown, Texas. Sharon dropped off anote on Monday explaining how much she and her husband enjoyed the passionate

worship and the challenging message about "Getting out of the pit!" Sharonfurther mentioned how we all have many hurdles in our everyday lives.

Both Sharon and Michael are members of First United Methodist Church inGeorgetown, Texas. And they love being part of the Methodist connection. In hernote, Sharon concluded, "My brother and I were both adopted from the MethodistMission Home in San Antonio, Texas" and then she recognized our wonderfulchurch. As I was reading the note, a check fell out, which was for $1,000! What aGod-sighting to have people who love Jesus express it in sacrificial ways! I'mcontinuously amazed at how God invites us to build bridges of hope through

    the love of Christ!

Next week, join us as we begin a new sermon series, Not a fan, but a follower(of Jesus)! You are invited to wear your favorite sports jersey, t-shirt, etc. duringAugust!

Remember, Gods will for us is good, we must do the rest!

    -- Pastor Stephen

    McKendree UMC Day Care News

Our Day Care Center has once again been designated as athree-star program by the Department of Human Services.

This is the top rating attainable in the Tennessee ReportCard and Star Quality Program. We earned three stars in allseven of the quality indicator areas: Director Qualifications, ProfessionalDevelopment, Developmental Learning, Parent/Family Involvement, Ratio andGroup size, Staff Compensation, and Program Assessment.

The center recognizes the outstanding work of our excellent day care staff. Theteachers and caregivers exemplify what it means to be highly skilled andprofessional early childhood educators. They were recently honored by theparents and families of our program during "Teacher Appreciation Week." Familiesshowered staff with cards, personal notes, gifts, and a catered lunch as a way tosay thank you to these important people in the lives of their children.

The parents served by our program are also instrumental in the center's success. Not only do they expect quality care for their children, but they actively participate

in making it possible. By serving on the Day Care Management Committee, involving themselves with fund-raising projects spear-headed by our Parent Group, forging meaningful and collaborative relationships with staff; and by remaining the"first teachers" and decision makers for their children, these wonderful familiesparticipate in the life of the program and contribute greatly to the development ofcommunity.

The support of the church has also been tremendous. From administrativeresources (payroll, finance reports, etc.) to one-on-one supervision coaching, front-desk greeters, spiritual "cheerleading" and collaborative decision-making, thechurch/day care center relationship has led to twenty-one years of exceptional

service to our community. We recognize and applaud the countless contributionsof the many folks who together have played a role in the center's success.-- Cindy Ligon
