“How Kumon Supports Test Performance” Mastery Learning “The concept of mastery learning underlies the Kumon approach. Coined by Benjamin Bloom, mastery learning is predicated on the notion that anyone can learn given the right circumstances. These circumstances include: sufficient time, appropriate instruction, and feedback on learning. Mastery learning supports students in gradually building and demonstrating mastery of concepts and skills before they move on to another level. Summer Planning “Kumon is not only designed to be a program that improves math skills, but so much more. All year round your child is developing these skills, so why stop during the summer? Time away from Kumon study will reverse many of the habits your child has acquired. With school finished, many students lack a structured routine, and a summer study is a great way to keep them mentally active.
