If you wish to become anAnnual Sponsor, pleasecontact us.

Our chapter's 55th anniversary is this year, and we want to celebrate BIG! Chris Hitchcock, Past President, is leading the charge and thinks our partyshould involve togas, ivy-covered columns, grapes, and the Boardmembers fanning the members with palm ferns. If this doesn't sound likeyour idea of a good time (and we hope it doesn't), we are going to needyou to help Chris with the planning process!!! Our party will be sometime during Employee Learning Week, December 1-6, 2014. We have a decent budget with which to work, and we(desperately) need lots of fun people to help Chris move away from thiscrazy toga idea. On the committee, she will need:

Idea peopleLogistics peopleCoordinators for the day of the partyHosts and hostesses for the partyPeople who are talented in getting services at a discountParty people

She has needs on the committee for those who can offer just a quick 30minutes to the project or those who would like to see this entire projectthrough from beginning to end. To help save our anniversary party, get intouch with Chris at [email protected] or 402-716-1531 oryou may be able to find her on the set of Animal House (the movie from1978; man, she's old) gathering ideas.

Are You Managing YourInternal Talent Pipeline?

Submitted by: Mike Mclllece

One of the unintended results of an internal promotion is the chainreaction it can cause throughout the organization. When a higher-levelmanager is promoted, their position becomes vacant and necessary to fill. Open positions cascade down throughout the organization, and great

companies fill them internally with talented employees. It is also anightmare for your recruiting team. People with the right technical and leadership skills are expensive andrisky to source from the outside. As a talent development or trainingprofessional, we are often at the front lines of shepherding this talent fromwithin the organization. Succession planning is a structured way ofensuring the right people have the needed skills as they move up in theorganization. Succession planning and job competency modeling help us find anddevelop our employees for future positions. Competency models provide aframework of skills and core behaviors for each job within theorganization. As an employee is promoted over time or their responsibilitygrows through projects, these employees begin to "grow" theircompetencies. A good succession plan will help identify and show theconnections and steps to the next job. These employees and thedeveloping competencies that they have are your own internal talentpipeline. To best manage this pipeline, you need to understand where theorganization is going. Is your five-year plan focused on "lean" processes oris the business looking to rapidly expand? Dust off those "AcmeCorporation's Strategic Five Year Plan" reports that we invariably receiveeach year and ask yourself: Where is senior management going? Whatissues or opportunities are on the horizon? What will the recruiters behiring for within the next few years to meet these challenges? Once you begin to ask these questions, tailor your development andtraining programs to ensure that employees have the neededcompetencies to meet these challenges. Now when a high-level manageris promoted, your recruiters can look to you to find the right internalemployee to fit all of those open positions.
