Innsbrook Club News THIS WEEK’S BLUEBIRD REPORTInnsbrook’s bluebirds presently have 61 nests containing 67 eggs and 169 hungry chicks. Another 87 chicks have fledged. Some of our nest boxes have been attacked by house sparrows. House sparrows are a big competitor and, in some cases, a predator of bluebirds. They will attack and kill adult bluebirds, their eggs and young to get a nest box. They build tall sloppy nests with loose grass and pieces of junk. Because they are not native species, they are not protected by law and it’s legal to remove their nests and eggs from your box. You may have to remove several nests before they will leave your box alone. Please send your reports and questions to Shirley at [email protected].
