MAGNOLIA TREE PROJECT
Tony Castro, Vice-President
The Greens at Seven Oaks Board
It’s time to bring you an update on the progress of The Magnolia Tree Project. Let me be-
gin by providing some clarification and to ask for your help. It is the responsibility of
each homeowner to maintain the grass and tree (s) in the strip between sidewalk and curb,
as bounded by their property lines. The help needed is for the replacement trees, the Japa-
nese Blueberry, and their immediate needs during the first two months after planting, as
well as long-term needs.
It is very important to hand-water your new tree (s) once on each of your watering days,
during the first two months. You may use the hose or a bucket to apply about two gallons
directly at the base of the tree, so as to get moisture to the root ball. Do not over-water.
This is in addition to your normal sprinkler schedule, recommended as follows.
It is best to water early in the morning before the day warms and evaporation consumes
more of the water. You should water for five minutes, then allow an hour to soak, and then
water for another five minutes. You should be watering three days per week. If indications
of wilt occur, you may need to alter your watering program. Please call Curtis Kelly at
Kelly Management, 661-322-5936 for a free consultation with our contractor. Do not wa-
ter to the extent that run-off occurs
If you live on a corner, you are responsible to water the grass and trees that go around the
corner to your property line. If you need help setting-up your sprinkler controllers, please
call Curtis Kelly at Kelly Management, 661-322-5936. The help is free of charge.
We have completed about half the Magnolia tree removal and planting the replacement
trees, the Japanese Blueberry. The new trees are doing well and are showing healthy
growth. However, we have lost several trees due to inadequate watering and their replace-
ment has increased the cost of the project. Hence, the request for help, above. We plan to
do two more removal/re-plant phases and complete the project in the spring of 2020. The
special assessment of $10.00 monthly will end five years after its inception.
We continue to find more evidence of damage from the Magnolia trees. In addition to
raising our sidewalks, it is possible that in some areas, they have altered the slope of our
street rain gutters and have created problems with run-off. We are in the midst of engi-
neering studies to determine the cause and develop corrective action.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we complete this important project.

A Note From Your Board
Larry E, Reider, President-Greens Board of Directors
Dear Greens Homeowner,
July, and summer, is here. This brings one of our favorite Holidays-The Fourth of July. This holiday
is a very special one for our nation and commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independ-
ence on July 4, 1776. Independence Day is commonly associated with barbecues, fireworks, outdoor
concerts, baseball games and picnics.
Here at The Greens, we are fortunate enough to have our own “picnic”. Once again this year, our
Men’s Club and Social Committee will be offering our annual Hot Dog Bar and Ice Cream Social
from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at our White Oak Clubhouse. Please attend if you can. It will be a wonderful
time with your friends and neighbors thanks to our Men’s Club and Social Committee. There is a
$5.00/ person charge. Please contact Mary Ann King at 661-665-2951 for details and/or reserva-
tions.
Speaking of clubhouses, our new, improved Ridge Oak clubhouse opened on Monday 6-25 at 12
noon. If you weren’t able to attend the open house on 6-24-18, please come by to see the changes
and upgrades. They are phenomenal and were very much needed. You can be proud of the new, im-
proved Ridge Oak Clubhouse. A big “thank you” is due to Terry Hopkins-Project Manager, and our
Ad Hoc committee of Mike McCoy, Janet Hopkins, Nancy Joy and Ann Young. When you see them,
say “Thanks” for their hard work. Also, a “thank you” is due to Kelly Management for their support
of this project.
Summer also brings other things to be aware of. It means a greater chance to be outdoors with
friends, but it also provides more opportunity for criminal behavior. According to the Bakersfield
Police Department, some of the precautions you can take to safeguard against criminal behavior in-
clude:
Be aware of your surroundings when you are outside.
Before going on vacation, cancel all deliveries (mail, newspaper etc.,), have a neighbor or friend
collect them, or stop delivery of your mail at the post office.
Set your alarm when you leave your residence.
Do NOT post travel plans on social media before, or while, you are on a trip.
Make sure your neighbors know you will be gone.
Do not leave your garage door open for circulation. If you need circulation in your garage, and your
back yard is secure, use the side door in your back yard. This way you can enjoy circulation, but
no one, including our own Greens skunks and Kit Foxes can get into your garage.
I mention the skunks specifically, since on our nightly walks with our dog around 9:00 PM, we have
noticed more and more skunks in our neighborhood. They appear pretty brazen, walking through
people’s front yards, near the front door. They likely are looking for food. You can help keep
them away from your house by not leaving pet food outside.
Finally, your Greens Homeowners Association Board will be holding its next meeting on Tuesday
July 10 at 4:00 PM at our White Oak Clubhouse. Please try to attend. We welcome your
attendance.
