Networking Session at Daayitwa

On 17 July Daayitwa Abhiyaan organized a networking session as a platform for theyouths from several organization and students from various colleges to share theirinnovative ideas and concerns on the existing policies at Daayitwarsquos office BakhundoleLalitpur The participants discussed on several policy related issues ranging fromeducation governance enterprise development and the roles youth can play in the road topostshyquake recovery

One of fellows from Teach for Nepal brought up one of the crucial problems prevailing inNepalese education ie the ever increasing gap between quality of education delivered bypublic and private schools Significant amount of resources are separated each year foreducation however mobilizing these resources for infrastructural development andupgrading the education delivered by public school has been questionable He furtherhighlighted the importance of acknowledging and appreciating the roles played by teachersin motivating them to deliver the quality education The participants further acknowledgedthe urgent need of effective youth engagement and collective action for a better andthriving Nepal

In addition to Daayitwa team and 2015 Summer Fellows youths from organizations likeTeach for Nepal members of United States Embassy Youth Council Nepal and graduatesof Arthayala from Samriddhi Foundation were present in the session

Daayitwa Winter Fellows present at Martin Chautari

On July 19 and 26 seven Daayitwa Fellows presented their five shymonth long research workat Martin Chautari They presented in wide range of topics that include Gender InclusionYouth Development Migration Postshyquake Restoration of Cultural Heritage in KathmanduValley Revitalizing Agriculture and so on In addition to sharing their key findings andrecommendation they also talked about their experience of working with Members ofParliament

The session attendees were academicians with years long experience in research andpolicy analysis They were curious to learn about the fellowsrsquo experience of workingtogether with the Members of Parliament and future steps that will be undertaken with theirresearch findings

Martin Chautari is an informal discussion group that focuses on research and policy ondemocracy media and education with crossshycutting themes on gender and social inclusionbased in Kathmandu Nepal

Leadership Session for the Summer Fellows

On July 28 Daayitwa conductede a leadership session for the sevenshyteen Summer Fellowsat Daayitwa Office Based on the thematic area of their fellowship initiative the fellowswere divided into three groups Each group then was assigned a small group projectwhereby they will practically implement and execute the learnings from the six modules ofthe course Although briefing on each of the six modules were done on this session thespecific focus was on two of the six modules of the course Who is a Leader andListening to Oneself

The session is a part of the Leading Innovation course that is offered to each batch offellows over their fellowship period The course aspires to sharpen an individualrsquos skillssuch as public narration communityshymobilization collaboration leading a socialmovement and so on

On July 30 and 31 Daayitwa organized a twoshyday Symposium where the 2015 WinterFellows showcased their fiveshymonth long fellowship 2015 Summer Fellows werewelcomed winner of Naya Ghar Innovation Challenge 2014 of Palpa was announced andLeadership Lab was officially launched at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza TahachalKathmandu

The symposium started with poster presentations by ten Daayitwa Winter Fellows whoprovided research and analytical support to the ten Members of the Parliament (MPs) overthe fiveshymonth of fellowship program from JanuaryshyJune 2015 The presentation wasfollowed by a panel session on lsquoStrengthening youth participation in policymaking for athriving Nepalrsquo The panelists included Mr Dipendra Nath Sharma Secretary of Ministry ofYouth and Sports Mr Bibhusan Bista Technology innovator and CEO of YoungInnovations Ms Arpita Nepal CoshyFounder and Director of Research and Development ofSambriddhi Foundation and Mr Yogendra Shahi Coordinator of Task Force formed by theGovernment of Nepal to draft Youth Vision 2025

On the second day Hon Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat graced the main eventas the Chief Guest of the Symposium During the event Dr Mahat highlighted the urgencyfor political sectorsrsquo actors to prioritize ldquoeconomic development and prosperity for allrdquo andfor the nation to promote productivity better service efficiency and innovation Heencouraged the youths to pursue hardshywork innovation and sense of service towardsbuilding a thriving Nepal

Daayitwa Abhiyaan jointly with the entrepreneurs the fellows and Dr Mahat honored theChief Secretary Mr Leela Mani Paudyal with Momento of Recognition for his contributionsand persistent commitment to enhancing public service and encouraging youth leadershipfor resilient and thriving Nepal Mr Paudyal also emphasized the need for integrity andhardshywork and the need for each one of us to assess how we are contributing to thesociety that we dream to live in

Naya Ghar Innovation Challenge 2014shy Palpa winner announced

On July 31 Naya Ghar officially announced the winner on the Innovation Challenge 2014 ofPapla at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza Tahachal The winner Mr Durga Bahadur Khand wasawarded a cash prize of three lakhs by the Chief Guest Hon Finance Minister Dr RamSharan Mahat

Initially Mr Khand started a cow farm with three cows Today he has twentyshyfive cowsthat produces milk for local and commercial consumption With the award money heintends to expand his farm so he could meet the demand for fresh milk from theneighbouring VDCs

The two runnershyup entrepreneurs Mr Om Bahadur Saru and Mr Tankanath Ghimire werealso invited for the ceremony and were awarded with a token of acknowledgement by DrMahat

Innovation Challenge is a district wide competition for selecting highshypotential small andmedium enterprises through community mobilization voting over mobile phone andFacebook and jury panel selection to identify ten winners

Innovation Challenge 2015 Gulmi

In early July Naya Ghar launched its SMS and Facebook voting campaign as a secondstep to select top twenty entrepreneurs of Innovation Challenge 20015shyGulmi The mainobjective of the voting campaign was to provide the entrepreneurs with an opportunity topromote their venture their work and the impact they have been making in the communityamong their family and friends in and out of Nepal The campaign went on for three weeksand ended on 24 July noon

Rebuilding Initiative

On 27th July 2015 three members from Daayitwa Tara Prasad Panthi Chhitij Bashyaland Aman Shrestha visited Ramechhap to identify local partner to work for long termrebuilding project in the district This visit was an initial step to identify the district whereDaayitwa would be concentrating its rebuilding initiatives

The interaction with local NGOs entrepreneurs and media personnels helped us identifyand understand the postshyquake conditions in the area and the rebuilding efforts that havebeen put up so far

Among the many individuals and organizations supporting this initiative Nepal Risingcampaign is one This campaign provides a common platform to share ideas raise fundsand coordinate volunteers towards a common purpose of building resilient communities inNepal

Nepal Leadership Lab launched

On 31 July Daayitwa Abhiyaan launched Nepal Leadership Lab on the very day of theSymposium The Nepal Leadership Lab aspires to create Samunnat Nepal by providingleadership course to young leaders The course aims to strengthen leadership capacity inthe young public innovators so that they can accelerate the impact of their innovations fora thriving Nepal

Through this platform the candidates will learn how to conduct research mobilizecommunity collaborate and lead social movement The Nepal Leadership Lab conducts

research develops curriculum and provides inshypractice leadership coaching to policysocial and business innovators in Nepal In 201314 former Senior Research Fellow at Harvard Center for Public Leadership DrPukar Malla collaborated with Professors Marshall Ganz and Ronald Heifetz for 15 yearsat Harvard Kennedy School of Government to create a leadership framework built onNepalrsquos socioshycultural and political history and current needs The framework emphasizeson four core componentsshy listening to oneself empathizing with others diagnosingadaptive issues and mobilizing collective action

Leardership Course for 20 Young Leaders

On mid week of August the call for application for a leadership course offered to twentyyoung leaders will been launched The central idea of the entire course is to replicate realshylife scenario in a classroom setting where young bureaucrats politicians (both MPrsquos andnonshyMPrsquos) business personnel civil society activists will learn to collectively solve issuesthey come across everyday

This oneshymonth long course aims to enrich leadership capacity in the young publicinnovators so that they can accelerate the impact of their innovations for a thriving Nepaland understand their call to leadership

On July 31 Naya Ghar officially announced the winner on the Innovation Challenge 2014 ofPapla at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza Tahachal The winner Mr Durga Bahadur Khand wasawarded a cash prize of three lakhs by the Chief Guest Hon Finance Minister Dr RamSharan Mahat

Initially Mr Khand started a cow farm with three cows Today he has twentyshyfive cowsthat produces milk for local and commercial consumption With the award money heintends to expand his farm so he could meet the demand for fresh milk from theneighbouring VDCs

The two runnershyup entrepreneurs Mr Om Bahadur Saru and Mr Tankanath Ghimire werealso invited for the ceremony and were awarded with a token of acknowledgement by DrMahat

Innovation Challenge 2015 Gulmi

In early July Naya Ghar launched its SMS and Facebook voting campaign as a secondstep to select top twenty entrepreneurs of Innovation Challenge 20015shyGulmi The mainobjective of the voting campaign was to provide the entrepreneurs with an opportunity topromote their venture their work and the impact they have been making in the communityamong their family and friends in and out of Nepal The campaign went on for three weeksand ended on 24 July noon

Rebuilding Initiative

On 27th July 2015 three members from Daayitwa Tara Prasad Panthi Chhitij Bashyaland Aman Shrestha visited Ramechhap to identify local partner to work for long termrebuilding project in the district This visit was an initial step to identify the district whereDaayitwa would be concentrating its rebuilding initiatives

The interaction with local NGOs entrepreneurs and media personnels helped us identifyand understand the postshyquake conditions in the area and the rebuilding efforts that havebeen put up so far

Among the many individuals and organizations supporting this initiative Nepal Risingcampaign is one This campaign provides a common platform to share ideas raise fundsand coordinate volunteers towards a common purpose of building resilient communities inNepal

Through this platform the candidates will learn how to conduct research mobilizecommunity collaborate and lead social movement The Nepal Leadership Lab conducts

Daayitwa Fellowship Symposium 2015

On July 30 and 31 Daayitwa organized a twoshyday Symposium where the 2015 WinterFellows showcased their fiveshymonth long fellowship 2015 Summer Fellows werewelcomed winner of Naya Ghar Innovation Challenge 2014 of Palpa was announced andLeadership Lab was officially launched at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza TahachalKathmandu

The symposium started with poster presentations by ten Daayitwa Winter Fellows whoprovided research and analytical support to the ten Members of the Parliament (MPs) overthe fiveshymonth of fellowship program from JanuaryshyJune 2015 The presentation wasfollowed by a panel session on lsquoStrengthening youth participation in policymaking for athriving Nepalrsquo The panelists included Mr Dipendra Nath Sharma Secretary of Ministry ofYouth and Sports Mr Bibhusan Bista Technology innovator and CEO of YoungInnovations Ms Arpita Nepal CoshyFounder and Director of Research and Development ofSambriddhi Foundation and Mr Yogendra Shahi Coordinator of Task Force formed by theGovernment of Nepal to draft Youth Vision 2025

On the second day Hon Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat graced the main eventas the Chief Guest of the Symposium During the event Dr Mahat highlighted the urgencyfor political sectorsrsquo actors to prioritize ldquoeconomic development and prosperity for allrdquo andfor the nation to promote productivity better service efficiency and innovation Heencouraged the youths to pursue hardshywork innovation and sense of service towardsbuilding a thriving Nepal

Daayitwa Abhiyaan jointly with the entrepreneurs the fellows and Dr Mahat honored theChief Secretary Mr Leela Mani Paudyal with Momento of Recognition for his contributionsand persistent commitment to enhancing public service and encouraging youth leadershipfor resilient and thriving Nepal Mr Paudyal also emphasized the need for integrity andhardshywork and the need for each one of us to assess how we are contributing to thesociety that we dream to live in
