VALLEY SOCIAL CLUB NEWSLETTER FOR JULY 2014 FROM THE PRESIDENT JULIANNE’S ARMCHAIR Dear Members, We had some wonderful activities last month. Many more are to come for the membership here too! We went to Tom Parson’s Picnic at CVH in Middletown. The weather was great with lots of food and drink. The best part was the ice cream sundaes with all the fixings! Aubrey L. and Kent O. participated in the Talent Contest. Both did great and Aubrey almost won, he came in second place. The next day we ventured to the “Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory and Yankee Candle”. We had a great lunch after we hung out with the butterflies and then shopped until we dropped at Yankee Candle. We all were so happy spending our money! So I encourage the member to get in on these great trips that our special fund provides us. I hope to see you all for Chick’s on July 8th with our sister club Options in West Haven, Action Wildlife in Goshen on July 9th and our 2nd Annual Branford Point Picnic with Options on July 11th. This is guaranteed to be a great week of trips. Come have some fun with your club. You're not getting any younger you know!! Hi Everyone, How is your summer going? Mine is going good. Last month, we had a great time at the “Magic Wings” and “Yankee Candle!” I spent all my money but boy did I have a good time. Last month we held another ice cream fundraiser and we made $40 so thanks to all the members and Dr. Oren that supported it. This money will go to our Gillette Castle Trip this summer. In July, we have a few outings. There's Chick’s and a beach walk, which is expensive so bring enough money, cause we always have a good time. I’m sure this year we will get good weather. There is two other trips that week so check your calendar. We also have a Brownie Fundraiser and a Pool Tournament with Fellowship Place. There are other groups too like Fishing Club, Beading Class, Walking Group, Drawing, Crochet, Computer, and Craft Class. Remember to sign up for these trips and get your name on the lists early so we can get a count to see if more vans are needed. Well I can’t say much more other than enjoy the fireworks and parties on July 4th and remember we are closed that day. Let’s have a good month. VALLEY SOCIAL CLUB NEWSLETTER FOR JULY 2014

FROM THE PRESIDENT JULIANNE’S ARMCHAIR Dear Members,

We had some wonderful activities last month. The next day we ventured to the “Magic Wings

Butterfly Conservatory and Yankee Candle”.

JOHN L. REPORTS ON THE BHcare BLOCK PARTY

I recently attended the BHcare block party. I hung with some friends from my neighborhood. I stood in the sun getting hot and sweaty looking like a pro baseball player. I listened to some tunes being played by a DJ. I saw some people getting down to the music. I ate a sandwich for my dinner. This was a good time for all who came. We give thanks to all who put this event together.

SOMETHING FISHY IS GOIN ON AT THE CLUB.

OPTIONS PICNIC BY JOHN L.

I recently attended the Options picnic. I enjoyed the food and watched some of our club members dance to some hip hop and the old time rock and roll. I chilled with some options club members shooting the breeze. Then it was time to hit the road. I want to say thanks a lot to the Options Club and their staff for this swell event.

AND THE WINNER IS . We would like to congratulate Neil R. and Holly W. (Paula B.’s relative)are the winners of the afghan blanket raffle held in June at the Block Party.

SUCCESS FOR NAMI

We are proud to announce that BHcare Valley Team raised $489 for this year's NAMI Walk. The was held on May 17 at Bushnell Park in Hartford. It was a beautiful day for the walk and the participants enjoyed a live band as they walked Bushnell Park. Thanks to all who sponsored this year's team.

Our group recently took a wonderful trip out of state. We went to a lovely butterfly museum (Magic Wings). We saw lots of butterflies. It was divine. There was a groovy lunch. We thought we were eating at a five star restaurant. We then went on a shopping trip to a Yankee Candle Store. We saw lots of pretty thing. This was a swell time for all. I attended the social event of the summer, “The CVH TOM PARSON’S PICNIC” It was a splendid time. Our group enjoyed a marvelous lunch and then had some scrumptious ice cream. We saw a wonderful talent show. Two club members got up on stage, but I liked when the man got up on stage and busted some moves like a cheerleader. That got his club in a frenzy. A women sang a “Madonna Song” many started cheering as she sang. And others sang various songs in the talent completion, some read poetry too. I am glad I went this year.

July’s Masters Table will be held on July 27th between four and five thirty at Christ Church Ansonia. The dinner is free and donations are gladly excepted. Please do not enter the hall any earlier than four o’clock as the staff need the freedom to set up

We think its wonderful that members are utilizing the local food banks but recently, we have had a lot of people using the club’s refrigerator to keep their food. Unfortunately we simply do not have that much room, especially when staff are buying food for various events. We would like to ask you to bring your food home before coming to the club. We appreciate your assistance in this matter. Reminders: The club and the main building is a smoke free campus. We do not allow smoking in the area’s in front or back of either building. Smokeless tobacco is also not permitted. Even though we recognize your right to smoke we also must remind you the only place to smoke near the center is the park and they have receptacles to place your cigarette butts in. Please be respectful as well and please do not throw your cigarettes on the ground. Bed Bugs not an easy topic to talk to you about! Summer is here and the dreaded bed bugs are too! If you end up getting them please let your land lord know so they can have a professional bug company spray. If you need support please talk your staff. There are many things you need to do to take care of this problem. Remember bedbugs like to hitchhike on people and if you wake up with small bite marks please see your doctor and have you living space checked. Signing up for activities: Remember to write down what activity you’ve sign up for at the club. The Executive Board voted years ago to have a three strike rule. What’s that? It’s when you sign up and then miss three consecutive activities at the club you will be not allowed to sign up for any the next month. After that your privilege is then restored. Remember only full time members can sign up for out of the club activities. Partial members can’t. Sorry!
