Happy summer…..finally!!!! We dodged the first hurricane of the summer which is wonderful and we expect wonderful weather for our 2014 Annual Dinner and Awards Celebration on Wednesday, August

6, 2014 from 5-9pm. Street.life! has been an event everyone has talked about over the past two years so we will be returning to the middle of Pleasant Street! There is no rain date so we will hope and pray for wonderful weather, or enjoy ourselves under a very large tent. Given the high demand to a return engagement on Pleasant Street, Street.life! will surely sell out. Go to www.portsmouthstreetlife.com and get your tickets now during the Early Bird Special period. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket(s) or a table(s) of eight you can call us at 610-5510 to make your reservation(s) and arrange for payment. Sponsorships are available; call me at 610-5516. This is an elegant, but casual event. Enjoy opening cocktails at one of two bars and a sit down dinner catered by The White Apron. YOU will be the entertainment for citizens and visitors who can walk by on the sidewalks and view the event. Being the entertainment is one thing, enjoying entertainment is another and we are planning some surprises for you. In the end you will all enjoy entertaining each other over an elegant dinner in a perfect setting. The Annual Dinner also serves another function, when we celebrate the great City of Portsmouth, the achievements of the Chamber over the past year, our members and guests, and the Business, Citizen, Volunteer and Connector of the Year. Email your votes to Briggs at [email protected].

The 32nd Annual Chamber Golf Tournament is nearly sold out. Do not miss being in the first tournament on the newly updated Pease Golf Course. I was at the ribbon cutting and can personally tell you that it looks stunning. See you there!

All of us celebrate daily that we live in a great area of a great state. While the economy continues to bounce back everyone is enjoying more business and greater revenues. We have noticed it too, as former members have rejoined along with many new members. The Chamber continues to focus on keeping the cost of doing business low while increasing member value. Our collaborations and management have produced results. In 2014 we continued to make progress on both upgrading your business website, but also creating a new tourism website. We expect that you will soon be able to visit that site. Look for the launch date.

Our annual membership dues billing process continues to allow us to manage our cash and time much more effectively. Our programming remains strong. We will shortly begin a long overdue project to upgrade the Chamber exterior: roof, siding and windows. This is a first of three goals to update the Chamber. In FY 2016 we will remodel the interior which has been desperately needed for many years. In 2017 we will focus on technology and succession planning as my retirement date of August 31, 2017 approaches. Physical improvements along with the websites and some upcoming staff changes require a bit more revenue. We are currently looking for ways to increase revenue with a focus on increasing member value. We value your investment and will continue to work hard for you and the Greater Portsmouth Business Community.

As we say goodbye to Katie Sweet, our Marketing Coordinator who has done a great job of transitioning our monthly newsletter from print to electronic, I would like to note that we will not publish the next Connections until September 1st.

Do not forget the Annual Meeting on August 21, 2014 at 8am at the Chamber, 500 Market Street. I hope to see many of you at Street.life! Enjoy your summer.

We are proud to announce our unique plans for our annual dinner! Street.life! was born in 2012 and met with enthusiastic praise. Last year’s dinner was held on Four Tree Island in honor of the new Memorial Bridge. This year, our largest annual event will return to Pleasant Street in Market Square, set up with two long tables draped with white linens. The same elegant al fresco dining experience awaits participants in the midst of Market Square. Rain or shine, we will see you on the street August 6th from 5-9pm. Tickets and details can be found at portsmouthstreetlife.com.

Dinner will be catered by The White Apron, with a cash bar and appetizers beginning at 5pm. Sponsors include: Service Credit Union, Optima Bank, DARCI Creative, Two International Group, Pike Industries, Data Risk, Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Portsmouth Sheraton Harborside, and Piscataqua Savings Bank.

“We’ve got a lot of people asking about tickets who have missed the event the past two years. And, a lot of folks (both Chamber members and non-members) are looking to attend Street.life! event so we know this will once again be sold out. We are prepared to host nearly 500 people.” - Doug Bates, President

If you’re interested in attending Street.life! you can purchase tickets at portsmouthstreetlife.com. Businesses interested in sponsoring the event can contact us at 603.610.5516.
