Jul 6 2016, 1:00 PM

Jennifer: GLAD YOU COULD MAKE IT TODAY.

Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM

Jennifer: I'LL DO BOTH TRANSCRIPTS AFTER THIS CHAT.

Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM

LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta

Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM

KarenPierce: Hi everyone! Happy to make this chat

Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM

Jennifer: WELCOME TO THE SUMMER SESSION OF REFRESH. THIS IS THE DAY 2 CHAT. EACH CHAT WILL LAST ~45 MINUTES. Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM

LibbyWiers: I'm Maine, just fyi...

Jul 6 2016, 1:03 PM

MargeJohnston: Yeah!!! Thankful for the phone ping! Missed last night due to family activities... which are good!

Jul 6 2016, 1:04 PM

Jennifer: BEFORE WE DIG IN, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS RELATED TO THE FORMAT, CONTENT, ETC.? I WANT TO MAKE SURE THERE'S NO UNCERTAINTY ABOUT THE WORKSHOP ITSELF.

Jul 6 2016, 1:05 PM

AmyHanschen: Loving the content...nice change up!

Jul 6 2016, 1:05 PM

LibbyWiers: So far, so good and clear

Jul 6 2016, 1:05 PM

LibbyWiers: Yesterday's layout was the first in weeks, so thank you for the push.

Jul 6 2016, 1:05 PM

TanyaNapier: Good morning from Southern CA

Page 3: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:05 PM

TrishAllard: getting things done...good for me to take this class

Jul 6 2016, 1:05 PM

Jennifer: THANKS AMY!

Jul 6 2016, 1:05 PM

Jennifer: YAY, SO GLAD FOR YOU LIBBY.

Jul 6 2016, 1:06 PM

LibbyWiers: I really thought retiring would give me more scrappy time, but it doesn't seem to be working out that way. LOL

Jul 6 2016, 1:07 PM

TrishAllard: haha it's all a lie Libby, I too have found it's much harder to carve out the needed time to scrapbook.

Jul 6 2016, 1:07 PM

CindyDavenport: I'm in the same boat Libby -- a struggle I'm working thru

Jul 6 2016, 1:07 PM

AmyHanschen: I know that, Libby! I semi-retired and all it gave me was time to clean the house!!!

Jul 6 2016, 1:07 PM

MargeJohnston: I thought the same thing Libby when my kids all went to school -7 years later and I'm still as busy as when they were all home at once!

Jul 6 2016, 1:07 PM

TrishAllard: Amy my house is cleaner too!

Jul 6 2016, 1:08 PM

Page 4: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jennifer: DAY 1 OF REFRESH WAS ABOUT NOTICING, ABOUT INTENTIONALLY SLOWING DOWN AND BRINGING YOURSELF TO THE PRESENT MOMENT.TODAY IS THE NEXT STEP, TO DO A CLEAN SWEEP, TO CLEAR THE SLATE, TO PRESS RESET WITH A 20-MINUTE BURST OF DECLUTTERING.

Jul 6 2016, 1:09 PM

LibbyWiers: My house is only cleaner because we have a girl come 4 hours once a week...

Jul 6 2016, 1:09 PM

Jennifer: DURING THE SPRING SESSION WE DEVOTED A LOT OF TIME TO ORGANIZATION BECAUSE THAT WAS CONSISTENT WITH MOTIVATION MOST PEOPLE FEEL DURING THAT TIME OF YEAR. BUT DURING THE SUMMER LIFE FEELS DIFFERENT. IN ORDER TO FEEL CONTENTED, IT'S MORE ABOUT DOING JUST ENOUGH TO CREATE THE SPACE YOU NEED.

Jul 6 2016, 1:10 PM

MargeJohnston: I knew it was time for this class and that I should take/participate again because two nights ago I woke up from a dream in which I had tossed all of my scrapbooking stuff out!! ACK!! Including memorabilia and such! I was so SAD when I finally came full awake --- I need this NOW!! Thanks Jennifer, your timing is spot on!

Jul 6 2016, 1:10 PM

Jennifer: YES OF COURSE YOU CAN DO MORE, BUT THE "REFRESH" I'M OFFERING THIS ROUND WILL IMPACT YOU ON THE INSIDE MORE THAN IT WILL YOUR SURROUNDINGS.

Jul 6 2016, 1:11 PM

AmyHanschen: I'm noticing that already, Jennifer. Hard, but worth it!

Jul 6 2016, 1:11 PM

LisaHowells: Marge I get that!!! What a dream

Jul 6 2016, 1:11 PM

Page 5: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

LibbyWiers: With computer issues and 10 days away at the end of June, email has piled up...I spent over an hour this morning taming that, up to a point. Still not not...My 20 minutes of digi supply organizing will follow this chat.

Jul 6 2016, 1:11 PM

MargeJohnston: I like what you just said "doing just enough to create the space you need"!!

Jul 6 2016, 1:11 PM

SusanneBrauer: I managed to clear my work island in my first 20 minute session -needed to keep up a good pace and not dawdle - but it's clear now. Still need to tackle my desk by the window - perhaps after the chat. Then my 3rd 20 minutes will be starting the real project.

Jul 6 2016, 1:12 PM

Jennifer: YAY SUSANNE!

Jul 6 2016, 1:13 PM

MargeJohnston: I am currently working on a book about our dog -- mind you he's been gone for 9 years now. However, he was my first "baby" and as I was working to get those pics out of my space and into the mini, I found myself reliving so many "moments" with him! Crazy how it gets you, even after so many years! But moving that project through the doors into completion is so freeing! And lets me line up my next one!

Jul 6 2016, 1:13 PM

SusanneBrauer: Tackling it a step at a time does really help with mental motivation. But why I can't remember that all the time, I do not understand.

Jul 6 2016, 1:13 PM

LibbyWiers: that second 'not' should be 'done'...

Jul 6 2016, 1:14 PM

LibbyWiers: We put so much pressure on ourselves...

Jul 6 2016, 1:14 PM

Page 6: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

EdithBanks: After my clean sweep of an extra table - I'm questioning if I really need it. It's never clean and random stuff collect there.

Jul 6 2016, 1:14 PM

Jennifer: I SOMETIMES LIKE TO THINK OF IT AS PUTTING ON MY TUNNEL VISION MASK...

Jul 6 2016, 1:14 PM

TrishAllard: Susanne I so agree with you on trying to remember what I've learned. I always think I'll remember and put it in action, but life sorta takes over. But I'll keep on trying.

Jul 6 2016, 1:14 PM

KarenPierce: I'm enjoying the pace this go round- I missed the spring session and am working in a few organizing activities in from that session - but I also notice it's overall a lot easier because of lasting effects of previous sessions - so thanks!

Jul 6 2016, 1:14 PM

MargeJohnston: Flat surface syndrome Edith!!!

Jul 6 2016, 1:14 PM

AmyHanschen: Interestingly enough, this session and the last came about a week too late in my studio space. I needed it before Refresh. But this time, this morning,I cleared the dining room table of pictures of my mom that we took to the funeral...last FEBRUARY. And then I could use the table to sort pics from a family reunion at Disney. Once I got the emotional stuff out of the way I could begin the creative stuff.

Jul 6 2016, 1:14 PM

Jennifer: WHEN I WALK INTO A ROOM OR LOOK AT A LONG LIST, IT CAN FEEL OVERWHELMING.. BUT WHEN I PUT ON MY TUNNEL VISION MASK AND IDENTIFY THE ONE THING I NEED TO DO NEXT, IT FEELS LESS OVERWHELMING

Jul 6 2016, 1:14 PM

SusanneBrauer: Trish, yes old habits die hard.

Page 7: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:15 PM

LibbyWiers: An ongoing process, learning to slow down and focus...

Jul 6 2016, 1:15 PM

MargeJohnston: Amy -- I feel that too! I still have my grandmothers items on my dining table, from December.

Jul 6 2016, 1:16 PM

TrishAllard: "just do the next thing" a favorite quote of a great lady.

Jul 6 2016, 1:16 PM

AmyHanschen: Marge, It wasn't that hard. I told myself to do it quickly and it only took a few tears and less than 10 minutes.

Jul 6 2016, 1:17 PM

Jennifer: THANKS KAREN. I DO THINK IT IS ITERATIVE AND I'M WORKING ON WAYS TO MAKE THE ENTRY EASIER FOR FIRST-TIMERS... SO WHEN YOU ATTEND REFRESH YOU KNOW THE DRILL ESSENTIALLY

Jul 6 2016, 1:17 PM

MargeJohnston: I struggle with Focus -- staying on task for that 20 minutes. While sorting photos, memorabilia pops up - so then I go to put that away and then boondoggle into something else --- at the end my pics are still in a hot mess. I need to learn to set things aside as I come across them instead of leaving to attend to them in the moment!

Jul 6 2016, 1:17 PM

LisaHowells: The little accomplishment of one thing done feels happy as if a door opened to a lighter step in the journey.

Jul 6 2016, 1:17 PM

CarolWhite: It's interesting how sometimes we make a task too difficult. Then when we do it, it takes less time and emotional angst than we thought. Amy, I'm glad you made it through that rough spot.

Page 8: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:17 PM

Jennifer: BEAUTIFULLY SAID LISA!

Jul 6 2016, 1:17 PM

KarenPierce: Love the tunnel vision metaphor - I'm usually overwhelmed w the get it all done tsunami - the 20 min spurts are definitely the way to go!

Jul 6 2016, 1:17 PM

Jennifer: MARGE, DO YOU USE A TIMER... I HAVE TROUBLE WITH DISTRACTION TOO AND FIND THAT IT HELPS SO MUCH.

Jul 6 2016, 1:17 PM

EdithBanks: Marge - have a tray or basket next to you for this

Jul 6 2016, 1:18 PM

EdithBanks: those other things

Jul 6 2016, 1:18 PM

CarolWhite: The timer helps so much!

Jul 6 2016, 1:18 PM

LibbyWiers: I agree with that issue, Marge!

Jul 6 2016, 1:19 PM

MargeJohnston: I use my phone time - but not always -- the timer needs to become a habit again! I have one in my space - I used to utilize it all the time when I was doing the FlyLady cleaning method. Somehow I got away from that. I need to get back on that horse for sure!

Jul 6 2016, 1:19 PM

AmyHanschen: I just put everything in a box to do as a 'project' later. (And I placed it in Mom's room, where my sister and I will be working in a month.

Page 9: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:19 PM

SusanneBrauer: A put-it-away-later bin or basket is a good idea - if you then remember to deal with it later. I drift into other distractions too Marge.

Jul 6 2016, 1:19 PM

CarolWhite: A "deal with it later" basket, as Edie suggests, might be very helpful.

Jul 6 2016, 1:19 PM

TrishAllard: Marge, I found if I put out a sturdy box or bin that will hold all that I need for the one page, then add the pics and ephemera, background pages etc.which will all stay there until the page (s) are done. Helps me not make such a mess.

Jul 6 2016, 1:19 PM

KarenPierce: Marge this happens to me too - I make myself stay in the spot/ room til the timer goes off then I put stuff away - I literally usually have a pile or two at the door when the timer dings!

Jul 6 2016, 1:20 PM

MargeJohnston: Edith -- I should do a basket. My hubby was trying to be helpful with the "touch it once" and be done motto. The problem is I touch it - then touch a hundred other things that were NOT on the plan!

Jul 6 2016, 1:20 PM

LibbyWiers: My whole space has a 'deal with it later' look. When I get home from the lake...one small corner at a time.

Jul 6 2016, 1:20 PM

Jennifer: I ALSO WILL KEEP A NOTE PAD FOR STRAY THOUGHTS THAT MIGHT LEAD ME ELSEWHERE

Jul 6 2016, 1:21 PM

AmyHanschen: I think I could use the note pad idea for the things I might forget during that time!

Page 10: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:21 PM

LibbyWiers: Just what I need... another list! LOL

Jul 6 2016, 1:21 PM

SusanneBrauer: FlyLady used to suggest carrying a laundry basket from room to room, and putting things in it that need to be transported somewhere, so that you don't leave the spot you are working in. Same would apply here - and a list for other projects/to-dos is a good idea too.

Jul 6 2016, 1:21 PM

TrishAllard: me to Jennifer, if I don't capture the thought on paper, I'll never remember it.

Jul 6 2016, 1:21 PM

MargeJohnston: Susanne -- you're right she did do the basket at the door thing!!

Jul 6 2016, 1:21 PM

Jennifer: THAT'S A GREAT TIP SUSANNE!

Jul 6 2016, 1:22 PM

Jennifer: I WILL PUT STUFF JUST OUTSIDE A DOOR WHILE WORKING AND THEN GO PUT IT WHERE IT BELONGS AFTER.

Jul 6 2016, 1:22 PM

MargeJohnston: I need two bins -- one for stuff that stays in the room but needs attention later and the second one for items that reside elsewhere in the house!

Jul 6 2016, 1:22 PM

LibbyWiers: I've tried to keep my idea list in my planner on lined pages, but it isn't always where I am. Having all the notes in one place helps.

Jul 6 2016, 1:22 PM

SusanneBrauer: Marge - I remember it most of the time when I am tidying up the house on Monday a.m., so why can't I do it in the studio. I guess I think it is such a small space I won't get distracted. But the distractions are just more compact, but no less distracting.

Page 11: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:23 PM

MargeJohnston: ^^^ YES!

Jul 6 2016, 1:23 PM

AmyHanschen: Libby, that's smart! Now, can I remember to take the planner to each room?!

Jul 6 2016, 1:23 PM

NicoleKann: This is helpful stuff!

Jul 6 2016, 1:23 PM

CarolWhite: If FLYLADY was a scrapper, she'd have us 1. let go of our perfectionism 2. set a timer 3. do a little bit every day of the week...seems like those are some of the things Jennifer is teaching us.

Jul 6 2016, 1:23 PM

ShannonMinner: Sorry, joining late. Just finished cleaning the porch for the expected company Friday night.

Jul 6 2016, 1:23 PM

LibbyWiers: Amy, good luck with that!

Jul 6 2016, 1:24 PM

NicoleKann: True Carol!

Jul 6 2016, 1:25 PM

Jennifer: I SUPPOSE I WOULD DISAGREE WITH FLYLADY IN THAT I DON'T WANT YOU TO DO A LITTLE BIT FOREVER. I DO WANT YOU TO PICK UP AFTER YOURSELF AND MAKE TIDYNESS MORE OF A HABIT... BUT I'D RATHER YOU NOT SPEND ALL YOUR TIME TRYING TO PREVENT CHAOS. LIVING IS TOO IMPORTANT. I WANT YOU TO MAKE MEMORIES, WORK WITH YOUR PHOTOS, AND CREATE THINGS WITH YOUR HANDS. THEN DO BURSTS TO REFRESH ON A DEEPER LEVEL.

Jul 6 2016, 1:25 PM

Page 12: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

SusanneBrauer: Yay for Shannon and her clean porch!

Jul 6 2016, 1:25 PM

AmyHanschen: I was thinking it's interesting that so many of us were/are Flybabies. You nailed it Carol...we are learning the same things for a different location.

Jul 6 2016, 1:25 PM

CarolWhite: I didn't mean that we

Jul 6 2016, 1:26 PM

CarolWhite: 'd tidy every day, but that we'd try to do something in our 'scrapping'lives every day. Making a page, ordering pictures, etc.

Jul 6 2016, 1:27 PM

CarolWhite: Making memories is a part of the process. Great point!

Jul 6 2016, 1:27 PM

AmyHanschen: Jennifer, I like the tideness habit but I like making and preserving memories more!

Jul 6 2016, 1:27 PM

MargeJohnston: Amy I think it's a "philosophy" so to speak .... little bits with a bigger goal in mind, whether that's a clean house or a completed project.

Jul 6 2016, 1:27 PM

Jennifer: I'M CURIOUS, WHAT IDEAS FROM PREVIOUS REFRESH SESSIONS (OR OTHERWISE AT SS) HAVE YOU CARRIED WITH YOU?

Jul 6 2016, 1:28 PM

CindyDavenport: Simplification trumps perfection

Jul 6 2016, 1:28 PM

AmyHanschen: I've tried not to fool myself into thinking I can do more. It's hard not to offer to create books for others, especially family!

Page 13: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:28 PM

LibbyWiers: I'm still working on the plan for things idea, more or less successfully depending on the day; and trying to simplify the process.

Jul 6 2016, 1:28 PM

MargeJohnston: Working with what I have!!

Jul 6 2016, 1:29 PM

LisaHowells: The list of other ideas is handy. I add to a daily list on my phone notes.

Jul 6 2016, 1:29 PM

EdithBanks: Last summer during Refresh I purged a lot. I have more things I use regularly - ow

Jul 6 2016, 1:29 PM

LibbyWiers: That, too, Marge. I have purchased very little lately, paper or digi...

Jul 6 2016, 1:29 PM

MargeJohnston: And using planning pages for projects -- when I write out the whole approach and the steps to get to the end result, I find that I'm much more likely to finish -- and in a timely manner!

Jul 6 2016, 1:29 PM

TrishAllard: that journaling is almost more important than a awesome picture. I've been thinking a lot about this and found that very OLD memories might not be exactly what was going on in the picture. My sisters and I talked about what we remember from an event or long ago memory and they came up with totally different memories that I did. hmmmm. what do you all think?

Jul 6 2016, 1:29 PM

Jennifer: LOVE THAT MARGE~

Jul 6 2016, 1:30 PM

Page 14: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

LibbyWiers: that does work, Marge, when I actually DO it! Jul 6 2016, 1:30 PM

CarolWhite: microkits, working with product here and quit saving it

Jul 6 2016, 1:30 PM

CarolWhite: We all have our own perspectives, Trish. Although they might be "creating a memory".

Jul 6 2016, 1:30 PM

LibbyWiers: I can't seem to get into the microkit thing

Jul 6 2016, 1:30 PM

Jennifer: TRISH, I'M NOT SURE IF THIS CONNECTS... BUT I WILL OFTEN USE A PHOTO TO JOG MEMORIES THAT DON'T REFLECT THE TIME OR HAPPENING OF THE PHOTO... IT'S A SYMBOL MORE THAN A FACT.

Jul 6 2016, 1:31 PM

MargeJohnston: It really does Libby! I made 8 digi books for the XC seniors last year. No way I could have done that without the planner pages!

Jul 6 2016, 1:31 PM

LisaHowells: Having a plan instead of always open ended creativity...Hmmm I like this idea of planning over Marge and Jennifer. A reminder I needed

Jul 6 2016, 1:31 PM

KarenPierce: Flylady got me down by chores / something everyday - I need to translate that to also doing something creative everyday- even if it's for 20 min....I think refresh has helped because it's kept me fairly up to date w purging quarterly,I love that I have a master project list that I readdress quarterly and I love that sometimes our assignment is to make a page!

Jul 6 2016, 1:31 PM

AmyHanschen: I keep two small 12x12 boxes available now,one for give away to particular people, one for 'garage sale'.

Page 15: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:31 PM

TrishAllard: oh that's awesome. I'll think about that some more.

Jul 6 2016, 1:31 PM

SusanneBrauer: Oh, for me, planning adds an extra layer that I don't find fun. I like loose ideas for the types of projects I want to tackle, but I don't plan out projects or even layouts step by step.

Jul 6 2016, 1:31 PM

LibbyWiers: Putting all points of view into the journaling might be interesting...

Jul 6 2016, 1:32 PM

TrishAllard: good idea Libby. I'll have to hang on to that idea.

Jul 6 2016, 1:32 PM

LisaHowells: Microkits yes for a bin of ideas when needing to get moving.

Jul 6 2016, 1:32 PM

Jennifer: ARE YOU ABLE TO FINISH SUCCESSFULLY SUSANNE?

Jul 6 2016, 1:34 PM

SusanneBrauer: Yes, and no, Jennifer. I have bursts of big creativity where I will start longer projects and get them about half done. Then I'll move on to quick easy things for a while, and later will go back and finish up the larger projects. Right now I have a few too many in progress.

Jul 6 2016, 1:34 PM

NicoleKann: While creating microkits, I have come across papers that stimulated ideas for unexpected pages that tell stories. Love when this inspiration hits.

Jul 6 2016, 1:34 PM

Page 16: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

AmyHanschen: I'm with Suzanne. I like the free flow most of the time when I'm in my studio. And yes, I finish. But when I travel, and I do quite a bit, I do only kits. And I finish those, too.

Jul 6 2016, 1:35 PM

MargeJohnston: I find the planning pages work best for big items -- like the XC books for the boys -- make a template fill them in, include stats, etc.

Jul 6 2016, 1:35 PM

MargeJohnston: Or for a large family book that covers a summer vacation - I make notes on events/memories/stories that have to be told and which ones need a full page layout and which can go into pocket pages.

Jul 6 2016, 1:36 PM

AmyHanschen: I've got too many big projects going, also. I need to look back on the past two seasons (planning and Refresh) to see where I am going with these.

Jul 6 2016, 1:36 PM

EdithBanks: Marge what are XC books?

Jul 6 2016, 1:36 PM

TrishAllard: I scrap on nearly 100% emotion. It has to hit me in the heart when I find a layout that will work with my pics. Is that silly?

Jul 6 2016, 1:36 PM

SusanneBrauer: I am learning to stop fighting my own natural ebbs and flows. If I try to force something, I am always disappointed in the end. So what was the point.Sometimes if I just tell myself that my next burst of energy needs to tackle something already in progress, it will get done.

Jul 6 2016, 1:36 PM

Jennifer: THE IDEA OF A PLAN IS NOT TO CONSTRICT YOUR CREATIVITY, BUT TO OUTLINE STAGES SO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE IN THE PROCESS,MAKING IT

Page 17: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

EASIER TO MAINTAIN MOMENTUM AND QUICKLY JUMP BACK IN IF YOU NEEDED TO PUT IT ASIDE.

Jul 6 2016, 1:37 PM

NicoleKann: Since it's summer, and we dont have a routine or schedule per se, I'm having trouble sticking to using my planner.

Jul 6 2016, 1:37 PM

Jennifer: NOT AT ALL TRISH

Jul 6 2016, 1:37 PM

LibbyWiers: I do that as well, Trish. Scrap what moves me at the moment. But I never get a whole year done that way, it's so hit or miss.

Jul 6 2016, 1:37 PM

CarolWhite: Sometimes I need the structure of the plan and then the creativity and emotion kicks in.

Jul 6 2016, 1:37 PM

MargeJohnston: Edith -- Cross Country

Jul 6 2016, 1:37 PM

SusanneBrauer: I think I need to have more discipline and focus without feeling like I'm tied down to habits. I do a decent job of leaving projects gathered in baskets and trays, so it's not hard to go back and start working again.

Jul 6 2016, 1:38 PM

AmyHanschen: Me, too, Nicole!

Jul 6 2016, 1:38 PM

Jennifer: NICOLE, COULD YOU USE ONE SHEET TO FRAME UP THE WEEK...JOT DOWN ACTIVITIES, THEN THE TASKS YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH?

Jul 6 2016, 1:38 PM

Page 18: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

NicoleKann: I also definitely need more discipline.

Jul 6 2016, 1:38 PM

TrishAllard: I find it so boring to fill out those little facts card that I would put on a page to decorate it some more. Date, time, where, when, why....takes the fluff out of me. I know those are important to place the page in "time", but I fight it.

Jul 6 2016, 1:38 PM

NicoleKann: Yes I should, Jennifer.

Jul 6 2016, 1:39 PM

LibbyWiers: For me, I think it is an attention span issue. I get bored and move on before I finish, then coming back to things is so hard. Lots of UFOs in my craft space...

Jul 6 2016, 1:39 PM

CarolWhite: In the end, you have to do what works best for you. We're all wired differently. However, I've thought something wouldn't work for me and tried it and BAM, a new way to do something that I really like has been born.

Jul 6 2016, 1:39 PM

TrishAllard: outer space, Libby?

Jul 6 2016, 1:39 PM

SusanneBrauer: Libby I have a short attention span too - that's while I will often opt for doing a single layout than doing the next step in a longer project.

Jul 6 2016, 1:39 PM

Jennifer: TRISH, I DON'T CONSISTENTLY DATE MY LAYOUTS. MY JOURNALING TENDS TO FOCUS MORE ON THE EMOTIONS THAN THE FACTS. FOLLOW YOUR NATURAL TENDENCIES AND DON'T SECOND GUESS.

Jul 6 2016, 1:39 PM

AmyHanschen: It's retirement, Trish!

Page 19: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:40 PM

CarolWhite: My problem is going back to do the journaling. When I'm on a roll, I want to create the page itself and do the journaling "later". Sometimes later doesn't come.

Jul 6 2016, 1:40 PM

LibbyWiers: Unfinished Objects...

Jul 6 2016, 1:40 PM

Jennifer: LET'S TALK A LITTLE MORE ABOUT "DISCIPLINE" AS IT WAS MENTIONED BY SEVERAL...

Jul 6 2016, 1:40 PM

NicoleKann: Me too Carol. That frustrates me.

Jul 6 2016, 1:40 PM

Jennifer: WHAT DOES THAT MEAN TO YOU?

Jul 6 2016, 1:41 PM

KimEdsen: I think of discipline as following through on what you intend to do.

Jul 6 2016, 1:41 PM

LibbyWiers: being able to stick with a project to the end

Jul 6 2016, 1:41 PM

SusanneBrauer: Discipline to me means not being taken in by every distraction.

Jul 6 2016, 1:41 PM

CarolWhite: Consistently doing things I've identified as important, if not very fun,and doing them habitually.

Jul 6 2016, 1:41 PM

CarolWhite: Now I need to work on being disciplined, even with the "fun" stuff.

Page 20: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:42 PM

TrishAllard: Carol, me too! I also get this sort of "fear" that I won't journal what I really want to say, instead journaling what the person looking at it would describe it. Does that make sense?

Jul 6 2016, 1:42 PM

HelenMcLaughlin: Not getting sucked in by things that aren't important and instead doing those tasks that are important to do (like chores) or things that move your hobbies forward or are fun

Jul 6 2016, 1:42 PM

MargeJohnston: discipline..... seeing it through in a timely manner --- not careening wildly from one project to the next!

Jul 6 2016, 1:42 PM

EdithBanks: Follow through with some of the not so fun tasks- picking up!

Jul 6 2016, 1:42 PM

CarolWhite: I've id'd scrapbooking as important and I am getting better at taking the time to scrapbook, but that Puritan work ethic is strong in this one.

Jul 6 2016, 1:42 PM

CindyDavenport: Working within some kind of structure

Jul 6 2016, 1:43 PM

CarolWhite: Trish~I totally understand what you're saying!

Jul 6 2016, 1:43 PM

Jennifer: DISCIPLINE SEEMS TO HAVE A NEGATIVE WEIGHT TO IT.. IS THERE A WAY TO FLIP THAT?

Jul 6 2016, 1:43 PM

Page 21: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

NicoleKann: Doing the tasks that need and want to be done regularly and in a routine way. Ive always struggled with routine.

Jul 6 2016, 1:43 PM

TrishAllard: I have come to welcome discipline into my life. I see how it helps me do what I want to do instead of losing the time or event that would have been caught if I had used the discipline to get me where I wanted to be.

Jul 6 2016, 1:44 PM

SusanneBrauer: Call it focus? I have told myself that I'm going to FOCUS on finishing stuff and that will work for awhile.

Jul 6 2016, 1:44 PM

CarolWhite: Trish~I also tend to go back and just do the 5 w's and and h and not the emotions that bubble up and need to be journaled, too.

Jul 6 2016, 1:44 PM

Jennifer: FOR EXAMPLE, I AM OFTEN IN AWE OF THE DISCIPLINE REQUIRED OF ATHLETES TO EXCEL IN WHAT THEY DO

Jul 6 2016, 1:44 PM

Jennifer: I WONDER IF THERE IS A WAY TO MAKE DISCIPLINE MORE JOYFUL...OR IF IT IS INHERENTLY SOMETHING WHERE YOU HAVE TO FOCUS ON THE OUTCOME

Jul 6 2016, 1:45 PM

TrishAllard: discipline to me is the process used to order life, projects, goals that we all have in some sort of way.

Jul 6 2016, 1:45 PM

LibbyWiers: A positive stick-to-it attitude.

Jul 6 2016, 1:45 PM

Page 22: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

PaiviEerola: To me discipline has a lot to do about organization. I add keywords to my photos, update their ratings in a set manner, maintain my digital kit folders and such. All the organization enables me to enjoy scrapping + I also enjoy organizing in some respect.

Jul 6 2016, 1:45 PM

KarenPierce: Good question Jennifer! I tend to see discipline as negative and fight routine yet I know if I follow a few routines things are so much better! ( i.e. Picking up after I scrap, organizing photos routinely so I have them to scrap...) maybe if I look at it as a " helper"...

Jul 6 2016, 1:46 PM

EdithBanks: I think of practice and routine

Jul 6 2016, 1:46 PM

SusanneBrauer: I think just achieving a better balance of focus versus distraction could be very helpful. Personality is going to play into a lot.

Jul 6 2016, 1:46 PM

MargeJohnston: Discipline is something that one has to have to achieve a specific outcome...so yes, I think FOCUS and OUTCOME are a huge part of it.

Jul 6 2016, 1:46 PM

MargeJohnston: I need to look more at the desired finished result than at the process in the moment!

Jul 6 2016, 1:46 PM

KimEdsen: This makes me think of habit formation as Gretchen Rubin discusses it...you need to know yourself to find what work best for you...do you like habit formation (insert 'discipline') or do you dislike it? How can you change your actions to work for you?

Jul 6 2016, 1:46 PM

CindyDavenport: Athletes make me think of pretty strict routines and healthy habits

Jul 6 2016, 1:46 PM

Page 23: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jennifer: I DON'T HAVE THE PERFECT ANSWER HERE, BUT I THINK IT'S WORTH PONDERING ON... HOW CAN WE INTRODUCE THE DISCIPLINE WE CRAVE WITHOUT REBELLING AGAINST IT?

Jul 6 2016, 1:47 PM

CarolWhite: Definitely food for thought.

Jul 6 2016, 1:47 PM

MargeJohnston: the process in the moment can be overwhelming!

Jul 6 2016, 1:47 PM

HelenMcLaughlin: I also think personality plays into it...also body rhythms. For example, a night owl wouldn't do well to scrap first thing in the morning.

Jul 6 2016, 1:47 PM

TrishAllard: discipline is the gas in the car.It is necessary to go anywhere in the car.

Jul 6 2016, 1:47 PM

MargeJohnston: Like running .....running 5 miles is doable if you're training properly -- but usually miles 2 to 3 seem brutal!

Jul 6 2016, 1:47 PM

EdithBanks: By little steps - trying one thing- just writing out my creative goals for the month helps me with focus

Jul 6 2016, 1:48 PM

Jennifer: OOH, INTERESTING THOUGHT TRISH!

Jul 6 2016, 1:48 PM

NicoleKann: All great ideas to turn into action.

Jul 6 2016, 1:48 PM

TrishAllard: me too Edith. All I need is a little reminder/prompt to get me moving again... aka floor that gas pedal!

Page 24: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:48 PM

Jennifer: I'D LOVE TO COME BACK TO THIS AT OUR NEXT MEMBER CHAT... AS I THINK THE CONCEPT MIGHT BE A GOOD HELPER AS WE TRANSITION FROM SUMMER'S LOOSENESS TO FALL'S STRUCTURE.

Jul 6 2016, 1:48 PM

CarmelleLandreville-Tremblay: Hi everybody, I'm a night owl, i can scrapbook very late...

Jul 6 2016, 1:48 PM

PaiviEerola: The answer for me has been persuation. I find little triggers that I can use to persuade myself into doing the thing.

Jul 6 2016, 1:49 PM

SusanneBrauer: You have to make the outcome worth the trouble of the discipline to achieve it. And I find it hard to put too much structure on my hobby that I do for fun. I guess I need to trick myself into fun routines for mundane tasks??

Jul 6 2016, 1:49 PM

Jennifer: I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR DIVING IN SO OPENLY WITH ME TODAY AND HOPE THE REFRESH EXPERIENCE CONTINUES TO UPLIFT AND PROPEL YOU.

Jul 6 2016, 1:49 PM

MargeJohnston: Helen -- good point, I do my best first thing in the morning!!

Jul 6 2016, 1:49 PM

CarolWhite: Treat yourself for finishing some of those mundane tasks.

Jul 6 2016, 1:49 PM

SusanneBrauer: Paivi - I see that. In fact, persuasion is something I am using on myself to lose weight. Maybe I need to do that on scrapbooking too.

Jul 6 2016, 1:49 PM

CarolWhite: Thank you, Jennifer.

Page 25: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:50 PM

NicoleKann: Love the discussions to jump start my need for focus and discipline!

Jul 6 2016, 1:50 PM

MargeJohnston: I was thinking that too Susanne!

Jul 6 2016, 1:50 PM

TrishAllard: very helpful info from all of you, thanks!

Jul 6 2016, 1:50 PM

NicoleKann: Thanks all!

Jul 6 2016, 1:50 PM

KimEdsen: Like everything in life, it's a work in progress! Have a great day, everyone!

Jul 6 2016, 1:50 PM

AmyHanschen: Thanks all..interesting discussion and thoughtful! Jul 6 2016, 1:50 PM

CarolWhite: I need to complete today's lesson; I'm very motivated to get it done.

Jul 6 2016, 1:50 PM

MargeJohnston: WOW!! That was fast!!

Jul 6 2016, 1:51 PM

LibbyWiers: Thanks, ladies! Lots to think about and an assignment to finish. Time flies here!

Jul 6 2016, 1:51 PM

Jennifer: I WILL POST THE TRANSCRIPTS FROM LAST NIGHT AND THIS AFTERNOON IN A BIT. I'M ALSO HOPING TO DO A FACEBOOK LIVE IN THE REFRESH GROUP LATER THIS AFTERNOON... SETTING THE TIMER FOR 20 MINUTES AND WORKING ON MY OWN CLUTTER!

Page 26: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

Jul 6 2016, 1:51 PM

CarolWhite: Great day for scrapbooking and reading as it is stormy and rainy here.

Jul 6 2016, 1:51 PM

EdithBanks: Great thought provoking conversation

Jul 6 2016, 1:51 PM

LibbyWiers: Clouding up here...

Jul 6 2016, 1:51 PM

CarmelleLandreville-Tremblay: Me too, I have to complete today lesson too....

Jul 6 2016, 1:51 PM

MargeJohnston: Thanks Jennifer!! Will there be a reminder for the FB Live?

Jul 6 2016, 1:52 PM

SusanneBrauer: Time sure does fly. Heading to the gym for 30 minutes then another 20 minutes in the studio. Thanks ladies, I'm fired up!!

Jul 6 2016, 1:52 PM

CarmelleLandreville-Tremblay: It's raining all morning today...

Jul 6 2016, 1:52 PM

CarolWhite: Off to get something accomplished. Yes, any idea of a time for the FB Live?

Jul 6 2016, 1:52 PM

Jennifer: HOW ABOUT 4PM CENTRAL?

Jul 6 2016, 1:52 PM

CarolWhite: Talk about discipline! You have it, Susanne!

Jul 6 2016, 1:53 PM

Page 27: Jul 6 2016, 12:57 PM : HELLO EVERYONE! WE'LL GET STARTED ...€¦ · Jul 6 2016, 1:01 PM LisaHowells: Hello from Fort Sask Alberta Jul 6 2016, 1:02 PM KarenPierce: Hi everyone!Happy

CarolWhite: Sounds good! I'm setting my phone alarm, but won't be mad if you have to change it.

Jul 6 2016, 1:53 PM

LibbyWiers: Just before supper is a great time!

Jul 6 2016, 1:53 PM

TrishAllard: 5 my time, will try to make it.

Jul 6 2016, 1:54 PM

MargeJohnston: Will try to make it but may miss it due to heading out for a 5k at 6! Will it work via the phone?

Jul 6 2016, 1:54 PM

CarmelleLandreville-Tremblay: I like it bofore supper too...

Jul 6 2016, 1:56 PM

CarmelleLandreville-Tremblay: Ok for 4pm central

Jul 6 2016, 1:57 PM

CarmelleLandreville-Tremblay: Good luch in your accomplishments this afternoon.... Bye bye
