How we used Ethos:Ethos is used to show that the speaker is a

respectful, and trustworthy person. In our commercial, Juan Payan’s character, Juan Payan, is a man who has done many things. He has trained Floyd Mayweather, a boxer that is currently undefeated as evidenced by how he says “You know why [ Floy Weather is 47-0?] because of this *pointing to the product Milky Juan*”. This shows what his product is able to do, and since he also trained Mayweather, the watcher will think Juan Payan is a veteran in the training field and an expert at gaining muscle, making the watcher trust his product more.

Ethos (continued) Juan Payan’s character, Juan Payan, also demonstrates that his product works work by showing off h by showing his above-average biceps, saying saying.” Milky Juan is a supplement that c that can have you ripped as the guns

you see right here *pointing to his biceps*”. You can see his ethos being built by showing how strong he is, and you can assume he is not lying about his product. If his product did not work, how can he be so strong?

EthosThe viewer will also begin to trust Juan by how he shows himself not only as a gym-head, but also a kind, common man. He demonstrates his common man personality when he says to Luisangel’s character, Mr. Luis, to “… clean those tears right there. I can’t see a cute adorable kid like you crying like that”. This shows how he cares about his common man, comforting the victim after being bullied. This builds ethos by showing the viewer that Juan is caring and compassionate.

PathosPathos is an appeal to the audience’s emotions.

Pathos is clearly being used in the beginning of the commercial. We can see Luisangel’s character, Mr. Luis, being bullied by Juan’s character, Juan Painan. The viewer can sympathize with Mr. Luis, for he is being brutally bullied for no reason, and being a victim appeals to the audience’s emotions. The viewers then want Mr. Luis to get revenge on the bully, and then they would symparthize with him to the point where they feel they are getting bullied, making them want the product Milky Juan

Pathos Continued

Pathos is also used when we see Mr. Luis in a state of brokenness, sadly listing the things he lost, “ He stole my headband, he stole my new glasses, now I have to use these old ones, he stole my crush, and now I don’t even have shoes for school… I have to use my sister’s shoe”. This depressing monologue shows his struggle of being bullied, and the viewer will be able to sympathize, maybe being a victims of losing their precious things or being bullied. This will pull at the heartstrings of the viewer, making them want to buy the product to gain muscles to defend themselves or others against atrocities such as these.

Pathos ContinuedPathos is also used towards the end of the

commercial, when Mr. Luis beats up and exacts revenge on Juan Painan. The way this appeals to the audience’s emotions is how they see that the character they were rooting for, Mr.Luis, was able to get all his stuff back, and as a closing statement, Mr. Luis says “…yeah…Milky Juan bro”. This makes the viewer feel as if the character they sympathized was able to gain his goal with the usage of Milky Juan, and in turn, they feel themselves as the underdog as well, making them want to buy Milky Juan.

LogosLogos is the appeal to logic. We appealed to the

logos of the people by comparing statistics between Milky Juan and Muscle Milk. In the video, Juan listed the statistics between Milky Juan and Muscle Milk, showing that Milky Juan was the better supplement by having “40 grams of protein” whilst “Muscle Milk contains 25 grams of protein”. He makes comparisons like this to show that Milky Juan is the better drink.

Logos ContinuedJuan does not stop there, as he also compares

the carbs, fat, and calories of each drink. He shows that he is not vouching for his product just because its his, he uses statistics to show that his drink is superior with proof. He says that Muscle Milk “contains 12 carbs” while he previously said that Milky Juan had “7 carbs”, and that Muscle Milk has 230 calories while Milky Juan has 220 calories “that’s like 1o [calories] off”. Not only this, he also compares the fats. Saying “[Milky Juan] contains 3 grams of fat” while Muscle Milk contains “12 grams of fat… that’s like a 5 difference from Milky Juan”.

Logos

All of these statistics show that Milky Juan is the superior drink, not using opinions that can be corrupt, but actual nutritional facts to persuade the viewer that Milky Juan is the drink that they need to buy.
