Confguration Screen

Rally Trophy is a racing simulationgame dedicated to bring back the sheerthrill and nostalgia of yesterday'sracing, allowing the player to capturethe feel of driving old classics from thesixties and the seventies. The player willcompete in the World Championshipseason, individual rallies, multiplayerraces and arcade competitions. All cars are best described as 'drivers’cars', as traction control and otherdriving aids were completely unheardof. It was all about the finesse of drivingtechniques and feeling what your car isdoing at any given time - and that iswhat counts most in Rally Trophy aswell. Rally Trophy brings that feel withits unparalleled physics while thedriving technique is left up to you.

We hope you will have as much fun, frustration, and joy at getting it right aswe had creating it!

• Gearbox: speed is affected as thegearbox is not working smoothly. Ifthe damage level increases, some ofthe gears will break down.

• Engine: top speed and accelerationwill decrease due to lost torque.

• Drive shaft: the car will lose powerand acceleration and top speed arereduced.

• Brakes: brakes will wear out and losefriction. Damage to brakes can resultin longer braking distances - this canbe fatal for the car on tight bends.

Mini Cooper S:

Ford Lotus Cortina Mk I:

A true legend amongst all carenthusiasts throughout the world, theMini Cooper S was a huge success inrally driving. With numerous victoriesand championships, it did not have anyserious rivals until the Ford EscortTwincam, Alpine A110 and othersstarted to appear. Others had learnedthe tricks used with the Mini and itssuccess started to give way to others in1968. By the end of 1970, the Mini wasout of the big picture but left apermanent mark in history.

Cortina was a hit in racing after adifficult beginning and it eventuallystarted Ford's success in rally driving. The first appearance of the LotusCortina was in 1963 but without anysuccess. It did not make an officialappearance again until two years laterafter Ford had modified it. However, by1967, it was scheduled to be replacedby the Mk2 but almost every driver stillpreferred the older Mk1. Thesesuccessful years made Lotus Cortinathe legend it is today.

Be prepared!Caution - be extremely careful. Thereare objects near the track which candamage the car.Don’t cut - do not cut close on thiscorner. There is an obstacle.

Your co-driver tells you at thecheckpoints how you are performing.Sometimes he has a strange kind ofhumour and becomes cheeky..

Pace Notes

In rally driving, the co-driver is asimportant as the driver. He gives youthe information on the forthcomingsections of the stage and warns you ofany obstacles lying ahead – this isespecially useful during night stageswhere you cannot see far. Listen to himcarefully! In addition to your co-driver’s calls, you

Saab 96 V4:

Volvo 122 Amazon:

After the success of Saab's originaltwo-stroke 96, Saab planted a Ford V4into the trusted chassis. Seeing rallyingaction for the first time in 1966 at anational event in Finland, the newengine proved to be as successful andpowered the strange-looking Swedishcar straight to victory line. The firstmajor international victory came in1968 and Saab really started to proveitself, especially in rough conditions. Afamous technique in driving the Saabwas practically holding the gas pedal onthe floor while adjusting the speed withthe left foot on the brake. Corners wereoften taken on 2 wheels and Saab'sround and sturdy frame proved usefulwhen rolling it - it usually rolled a full360 degrees and the race couldcontinue with only little time lost!

Large, heavy, simple and reliable, theAmazon was raced with relativesuccess in the sixties and it proved itselfas a car with a tight hold of the road andexcellent braking power. It was not aneasy car to throw into the curves but ithad a well designed suspension andgood engine specifications. Whendriven correctly, it was a serious rival forthe others and could take a lot ofpunishment. Being safe and simple totune and fix, it sold very well to thepublic and is still loved by many.

Cars

Opel Kadett's racing history started in1969 but it was not particularlysuccessful until the Rallye Kadett camealong with its 1.9 litre engine. Itssuccess was not long-live, as othermanufacturers developed their carsincreasingly and, like many others, theKadett soon gave way to newer models. However, it was and continued to be asuccess in local, smaller events andmany drivers learned their skills withtheir privately owned Kadett.

Alfa Romeo’s Giulia GTA was not thebiggest success in rallying, despitebeing the first homologation special intouring cars. However, as it wasdesigned as a racing car from thebeginning, it became quite popularamongst private owners as it wascompetitive "out of the box", especiallyon asphalt. Giulia GTA won only onemajor race, in 1966. Several secondplaces still proved that it stood a goodchance when driven correctly.

Ford Escort RS2000 Mk1:

Renault Alpine A110 1600:

The first appearance of the 2 litreengine in a Ford Escort Rally versionwas in 1972 and it showed its fullpotential until 1974 when the Mk2'sturned up. Up to 1972, Ford usedmainly a 1.6-litre version with varyingsuccess. It was the 2-litre engine whichbrought the Escort into life and resultedin a quick succession of victoriesespecially on gravel roads. On thetarmac, the Escort was not at its bestbut when deployed on looser surfaces itwas nearly unbeatable if in the righthands.

The Alpine A110 was built in severalversions before being given a 1565ccengine at the end of 1968 and that iswhen it became a powerful racing car. However, before the 500 productioncars required for the homologation wereproduced, it was used only in nationalevents in France and did not seeinternational action until 1970 - andeven then it was well into the seasonbefore the Alpine appeared. The Alpinewas designed mainly for tarmac andcircuits so that it was a real handful onloose surfaces with almost all of theweight loaded on the rear. The front endof the empty car could be lifted by asingle man.

Cars

Fulvia 1.6 HF came into the racingscene with all lessons learnt from the1.3l version and it was a success rightout of the box. Four days after thehomologation, it scored its first win. Itssecond win came only a week later. Itwas also the car which made thefunding needed possible for the Stratos- if it had not been for the Fulvia'ssuccess, the factory would have closeddown its rally department. Fulvia wasessentially the car which startedLancia's long domination in rallying.

One of the biggest legends in racing isthe tiny Fiat 600 Abarth - a small andlightweight rear-engine car which wastuned and prepared for the races by thelegendary Abarth & Co. It has madealmost unbelievable racing history withpages and pages of racing victories. Itwas even banned from some racessince others in the same class did notstand a chance! Even today, the veryconcept of the Fiat 600 Abarth isastonishing: The engine felt weak andpuny until the rpm reached a high level(up to 10.000 rpm!) and then the wholecar changed into a small predator of thestages. Very easy to drive successfullyas long as the driver knew his car -keeping it on the road could bechallenging at times.

Front-wheel Driving Tips:

Front-wheel drive (or, according tosome, 'wrong-wheel drive') is easiest todrive but can be tricky to master.Whether you apply the throttle or steer, all the controlling forces affect the frontwheels only. The main thing to keep inmind with front-wheel drive is that in thecorners it understeers as the frontwheels spin and lose traction. This iswhere left-foot braking or scandinavianflick techniques are of advantage.

Left-foot Braking:By braking carefully while keeping therevs up, you can partially or fully lockthe rear wheels and throw the tail ofyour car into a spin allowing you toaccomplish a tight curve at higherspeed than usual.

Scandinavian Flick:Using the left-foot braking technique, you flip your car into a 4-wheel slideheading away from the bend. Uponreaching the turn, coming off the brakeswhile steering towards the turn resultsin oversteering which flips the carthrough the curve but only if you masterthe timing of the brakes, steering andthrottle applications. Very tricky but ifyou get the hang of it, it can seriouslyhelp your stage times.

Rear-wheel Driving Tips:

Rear-wheel drive (sometimes referredto as correct-wheel drive'..) isconsidered to be best by the majority ofdrivers. You have separate control overboth ends of the car and this makesway for a variety of techniques. It isimportant to keep in mind that throttlecontrol in the curves is absolutelyessential! Too much or too little causesthe car to spin very easily.

Power Sliding:Power-slide means essentially reducingtraction on the rear wheels whilekeeping the front-end in control, lettingthe car slide throughout the corner andattaining higher speeds than normal. Itis essential in rallying and requiressome practice to get it right as you arecontrolling the car angle with your gaspedal.

Handbrake turn:Use the handbrake only when youreally need a quick turn such as inhairpin bends. Slow the car downbefore the turn and, on entering thebend, apply the handbrake - how muchand for how long depends on thesurface and speed and requirespractice and skill to perform correctly.Be careful though, the handbrake inthese cars was designed for parkingonly and using it while driving couldresult in breakage.

Hints & Tips

The first rally car designed as a racingcar from the very beginning of itsdevelopment, Stratos literally began anew era in rallying. At the end of 1972,the first Stratos prototype saw action inthe prototype category but it hadsuspension problems. The Stratosemerged from the prototype stage to"real" action in 1974 at which timeLancia had built the 500 requiredproduction cars. The Stratos definitelyturned heads as it did not look likeanything which had been built before -big V6 engine in front of the rear axle, just about every part of the chassisadjustable, exceptionally easy accessto all parts and the appearance of a truepredator of the rally stages. This andthe excellent handling qualities it had onall surfaces gave it a list of victorieswhich would easily fill several pages.
