Atkins Diet
The Atkins Diet was developed in the 70’s by the late Doctor Robert Atkins. It focuses on cutting out carbs so that your body will begin to burn stored body fat instead of glucose. Similar to the South Beach Diet
Many men prefer this diet thanks to hearty foods
Eliminates "bad" carbohydrates.
4 PhasesPhase one: the goal is to jump-start weight loss by
eating only 20 grams of carbs a day. The majority of these carbs will come from vegetables.
Phase two: focuses on ongoing weight loss. You’ll count your carbs and mainly eat proteins and natural fats.
Phase three: you’ll work to lose a final 10 pounds and begin eating whole food carbs.
The final phase four is all about maintaining your new weight and way of eating.
Consumption Limitations?
Do’s
Beef, pork, poultry and eggs.
High fiber salad greens, peppers, mushrooms.
Don’t
Stay away from carbs (carbohydrates)
Pasta, fruits, bread.
The Good ….
You are able to find your "ideal" carbohydrate intake level while following this plan.
Many people have lost a lot of weight on this plan.
Some Atkins dieters see improvements in cholesterol levels (despite the diet's high fat content).
The diet does not provide enough energy in the form of carbohydrate, so the body is forced to go into ketosis. This causes additional burden on the kidneys. There is not a lot of research available on the long-term effects of this.
Long-term effects on the heart have also not been studied.
The Bad …
The Ugly…
Most Atkins dieters experience constipation, halitosis, and sometimes, dehydration.
Potentially rare complications can include osteoporosis, hypotension, liver and kidney problems, and possible increase in heart disease risk.
You must account for every gram of carbohydrate you consume which can be difficult for some people to do, particularly when eating out.
Those who return to eating carbs again usually regain all if not more than the weight they lost during the diet.
Cabbage Diet
Allowed to eat as much cabbage soup as you want along with a few select foods which vary depending on the day.
The Cabbage Soup Diet kick starts weight loss.
Offers a “eat all you want” plan that may help dieters to feel full.
Why Start This Diet?
Being mostly liquid, the cabbage soup is low in calories and is meant to curb any hunger pains that may arise throughout the day.
Pros Fast weight loss
Can eat a variety of vegetables from the Brassica family (such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower) have been found to aid in preventing cancer.
This diet is extremely easy to follow. itself.
Involves only consumption of Healthy Foods.
Vegetables and fruits are rich source of vitamins
minerals and fiber thus they boost the body’s metabolism.
ConsOnce normal diet is
restored, weight is regained.
Just the consumption of vegetables and fruits do not provide a balanced diet, which is essential for overall fitness
Calories being withheld all of a sudden cause a lot of physiological problems.
Day 1: Homemade cabbage soup, plus any fruit, apart from bananas.
Day 2: Homemade cabbage soup, plus other vegetables, including a baked potato with butter for dinner (potatoes are off-limits
on other days)
Day 3: Homemade cabbage soup, plus other fruits and vegetables.
Day 4: Homemade cabbage soup, plus anything up to 6 bananas and fat-free milk.
Day 5: Homemade cabbage soup, plus 6 tomatoes and up to 450 grams of meat or fish.

Zone Diet
The Zone Diet plan is all about ‘meal ratios’.
Also known as the 40:30:30 dietCarbs, Proteins and
Fats.
Zone Diet 101
Still Popular
The Zone Diet was created by Doctor
Barry Sears in 1995. The diet focuses on
balancing the amount of carbs and proteins
you eat
Why It Works
By keeping your intake to the allotted amount within each group your insulin
levels will remain in check so that your body will not store
excess fat.
Closer look
Zone Diet shows that it is a low(er) carbohydrate diet – with a low calorie
count – at times possibly too low. Exercise is not a part of the formula (but always recommended). It does seem complex requiring dedication and discipline. It is also a diet that may be difficult to work around eating with family and friends.
South Beach DietThe South Beach Diet was created in the early
90’s by Doctor Arthur Agatston.
Three Phases The South Beach Diet begins with a somewhat restricted two-week induction phase
Very Simple there is no counting and not much measuring
Low in Saturated Fats
Encourages Individual Experimentation
Very Restrictive First Phase.
Possibly Not Enough Structure for some people when it comes to adding carbs back in, the diet leaves a lot up to the individual.
Inconsistencies
Phase 1: eliminating the need for sugar and refined starches
In this phase most carbohydrates (such as rice, pasta, and breads) must be avoided. There are three meals a day and 2 snacks
— Eating until your hunger is satisfied.
Meats, shellfish, chicken, turkey, and fish are all on the menu – along with nuts, cheese (fat-free), eggs, salads, and vegetables.
Phase 2
The second phase reintroduces some of the foods avoided in Phase 1 – but only sparingly. In this phase weight loss should be in the region of 1-2 pounds per week.
Phase two sets you up for long-term weight loss. You’ll continue to eat everything you ate in phase one, plus carbs such as, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, and whole wheat bread.
Phase 3: Maintaining The third phase is about living the lifestyle more
than a phase – its about eating healthy foods, and maintaining weight.
Once you reach phase three you will have reached your ideal weight and now need to focus on maintaining it. You’ll continue to eat everything from phase one and two, plus a little extra.
