With my years of manufacturing and production experience I have come across many issues with design that just wasn’t practical. I feel the with thinking outside of the box gives me a better view of correcting design flaws before they become an issue. I have been involved in numerous focus groups on improving quality, safety, and even attaining new business. I have stepped up to take on leadership roles in most of these groups. One in particular was retaining our “Q1” status and improving overall. With management support and other coworkers, we all worked as a unit was I was able to delegate and list our needs to retain our status. We not only were able to retain our “Q1” status we demonstrated that we could take on other responsibilities and even new business. I have never had any issues with working with others. Whether it was in groups or just working on assembly lines, I always promoted teamwork and open communication. These 2 skills, I feel are detrimental when working with others. While using these skills, I feel that I cannot only grow as an employee but as a person also.

I have been told that I can walk into any room of people and talk to them on their own level. I have some instinct on what people need to hear so that I can get my ideas and concerns across to them without coming across as being better off than them or worse, being totally ignorant of what they need or want to hear. With my last few years back in the education realm of design, and other experiences, this has also helped with my written communication. I feel more comfortable with using up to date computer software to put my ideas and concerns’ in writing and to have them come across as intelligent and precise.

One of the most important aspects to Design and CADD is getting your ideas across to others. Whether in written form, verbal, or in sketches and drawings, I am learning and becoming more comfortable with using all of these skills. Whether it’s with an instructor, employer, or other designers, I feel I have greatly improved in communicating my ideas and concerns using all forms of media.

There is always room for growth. There are new software bundles, techniques, and even new theories to learn. I feel that with Design Technology nothing should be left “as is”. One should always continue to educate themselves. There are workshops, classes, and lectures as well as books, seminars and webinars; no one can claim that they are not informed of new ideas. It is my responsibility to keep reaching for the stars as they say and always keep 1 step ahead of the crowd.

Improving one’s own abilities should be never-ending. Autodesk for example has many conferences and on-line training sites. I plan on staying current with any and all help with whatever software package that may be in use by attending all conferences our update meetings and keeping current with new media packages. I will also become involved in different Societies for Engineering.

As of January 2007 I have been working as a quality control inspector for a very prominent local company. My new responsibilities include checking incoming parts to specifications. I do this with multiples of measuring tools and gages. I also check the final product which includes final assembly and running all systems to check for leaks, electrical problems, and making sure products are to print. I read blue prints and use them to compare parts and final assemblies. I am in my second year of college at IVY Tech Community college pursuing my AS in Design Technology/CADD my current GPA is 3.67. I will graduate at the end of the Fall semester in 2009.
