President’s MessageHello All!

With the High Holidays behind us anda new year in front of us, we mustlook ahead and plan for what thecoming days, weeks and months willbring. ATC is resurging and ourtemple family is re-energized. Wehad a full house for all of our HighHoliday services and it seems to methat you, the members of AhavathTorah Congregation, are ready tomove ahead in a positive direction.

We are truly in a period of rejuvenation and progression andwe need your help to do it right. We can make better decisionswhen we know what brings us together and what make ushappy. That requires your involvement.

There is much to do!

First and foremost is daily Minyan. We have been fortunate tohave a daily leader for a very long time; now the time has cometo put together a new team of daily leaders. I am on the searchfor 3-4 congregants who can offer up one,or maybe two, nightsper week to be our designated coordinator and leader. Thiswould mean committing to being at ATC on that given eveningeach week prior to 7:30 PM, to open the doors and help ensurethat Minyan occurs. I am hoping to assemble a team of 5 so thatno one person must do more than one night per week. Pleasestep up and help out - there should never be a night whensomeone that needs to say Kaddish is not able to do so.

As we roll into November; ATC gets to celebrate our first twoB'nai Mitzvah of this season - CONGRATS to Courtney Weinerand Jordan Asnes as well as to your families. We wish you allthe best.

Looking further ahead, our main focus must be on fundraising…and our major fundraiser this year will be the upcoming NewYear's Eve party. This is a resurrection of an old ATC traditionfrom many years ago - ringing in the New Year with your ATCfamily and friends. The planning committee has been hard atwork and the event looks to be one of our best ever socialgatherings. There is more info on this further inside thisbulletin - so please take a look and get your reservation inearly. This will sell out!

In closing, I encourage you all to read through this bulletin in itsentirety. You will see that there is a lot going on at ATC. Weare a vibrant, active shul with a wide breadth of activities andsomething is sure to call to you. Please get involved and let usknow what you think it will take to make ATC a better place.

As always, if I can be of any help to any of you or if you needto talk with me about anything, please reach out to me at anytime via my ATC email address. I am always available to chat.

We may be certain that RabbiYisroel Salanter, the 19th-centuryfounder of the Mussar movement inJudaism, was not troubled by cellphones ringing in synagogue. But,he would understood the syndrome.

The story is told of Rabbi Salanterthat one day he went to a publicplace of business and began to teachTorah and pray in a loud voice. Atfirst, the businessmen werecourteous and diffident. Finally,

one approached the Rabbi and said "Rabbi, with all duerespect, we are trying to do business here!"

Rabbi Salanter closed the book and apologized. "I amtruly sorry. But, since I always see you talking aboutbusiness in synagogue, I thought it was appropriate to talkTorah in your place of business."

What sort of world do we live in when people are unableto disconnect from phones, computers, e-mails, tablets andall the wizardry of instant intrusion? Surely, Shabbat isdesigned in part for just such a respite for our souls? Theworld will get along fine without us for a bit. But, oursouls will suffer if we cannot sit quietly, with devotion, fora brief time each week. Imagine what Rabbi Salanterwould say.

Join us for Shabbat... Friday evenings at 7:30 PM andSaturday mornings at 9:30 AM. It will do a soul good.

Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When youpurchase scrip, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificatesand prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can usescrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, andother essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenuefor ATC.

Our supplier acts on behalf of churches, schools and othernon profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scripfrom grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers.Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, theparticipating retailers offer a substantial discount. ATC buysthe scrip at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to familieslike yours for full face value. The discount from two to fifteenpercent or more – is our revenue.

Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sellanything. Our congregants produce revenue by making regularhousehold purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.Scrip is available at most major ATC functions.

We stock scrip in various denominations for Shaw's, Stop &Shop, Roche Brothers, Butcherie, Barnes & Noble, HomeDepot, Best Buy, Outback, and more. Go to www.atorah.orgfor a complete list of available vendors.
