Short Description
The School-based program at the School of Science provides an invaluable opportunity for students to have a deeper understanding of the world and themselves before they decide on their majors. The goal is to offer a more diverse, interdisciplinary, and inquiry-driven undergraduate education to students interested in science. Students receive a broader knowledge- and inquiry-based education while enjoying greater course flexibility in accordance with their aspirations. In addition, they are given an environment where they can explore their aptitudes and nurture their interests during the first two to three terms before deciding their path of study among the programs offered by the School.
Diverse learning experiences including lectures, laboratory courses, capstone projects, signature courses, and language courses especially designed for science students’ needs, are integrated into the new curriculum of each major program. This ensures that students have a solid foundation and an adequate exposure to a range of science disciplines. The School has particularly placed enormous efforts and resources into designing its laboratory and signature courses with the aim of nurturing students’ competency in experimental methods and logical analysis, which are the two indispensable pillars of scientific method.
The curricula are designed to cater for diversity. Most science major programs offer different study tracks and options, while providing opportunity for double majors and minors. Courses are designed to suit the diverse backgrounds and needs of students. Based on the students’ interests, they provide opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of the major discipline, which will be useful for graduate degrees in the future. Taking up a minor program and/or free electives to widen their scope of learning outside their core disciplines also fall under this category. Meanwhile, interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other units within and outside of the University are emphasized in the science programs to ensure that our education is in-step with the ever-changing world.
Students’ personal development continues to be of top concern. Beside academic components, co-curricular opportunities of an even more diverse nature (including but not limited to student exchange, undergraduate research, internship, community services and engagement programs designed for the School of Science students only) are to be provided to enrich and enhance students’

Programme Short Name GBUS
Short Description
The BBA in Global Business (GBUS), the first of its kind and highly sought-after business program in Hong Kong, is designed for capable and highly motivated students who aspire to be responsible leaders with global perspective, cultural sensitivity, compassion in social causes, sound critical thinking and humility. Moreover, it is designed to develop students to embrace global challenges with enthusiasm and confidence and to realize their dreams.
Learning at GBUS extends far beyond classrooms and libraries. Besides a dynamic and diversified peer group from whom students can learn a great deal from each other, there are countless co-curricular activities for students to get involved and connected with the community, such as Global Leadership Forum, Global Leadership Development Program, Corporate Mentor Program, Overseas Study Trips, and International Business Case Competitions.
In addition, the GBUS Program is a student-driven learning program. Besides student-initiated enrichment events such as workshops and field trips, the GBUS Program allows flexibility for students to pursue their individual area of expertise as evidenced in up to two semesters of exchange abroad at an institution of the students' choice as well as engagement in Capstone Project and Public Service Project that match the students' interests and career aspirations. Moreover, students can select a second business major (Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Management, Marketing, Operations Management or Professional Accounting) or a minor offered by the School of Science, School of Engineering, or School of Humanities and Social Science, e.g., Bioengineering, China Studies, Mathematics, Entrepreneurship, etc. .
The design of the GBUS curriculum clearly reflects the cultivation of students' global perspective. Examples of courses to meet this objective are Doing Business in Asia and Emerging Markets, Global Perspectives on Contemporary Issues, Global Business Case Studies, Putonghua plus a foreign language.
Under School-Based admission, the Year 1 curricula of JS5013 GBUS and JS5003 B&M are identical. Nonetheless, new students will begin their GBUS journey through participations in various GBUS co-curricular events such as Global Leadership Forums, GBUS Community Town Hall Meetings, leadership soft skill development workshops, peer mentoring and networking events with GBUS senior students and alumni. Students interested in GBUS should include either or both JS5013 and JS5003 in their program choices. JS5013 is for direct entry to the BBA GBUS major. Those admitted into JS5003 may apply to enter the GBUS major from the second year onwards.
