Partnering with Our Parks Moraine, McConnells Mill and Jennings Commission (3MJC) is on a mission! We are a community non-profit organization providing support for Moraine and McConnells Mill State Parks and for Jennings Environmental Education Center.

Our mission is to enhance the appearance and function of these parks and to help educate the public on park operations.

educational opportunities for the public • Preserving park resources • Managing native plants and animals • Providing citizen input on park decisions • Raising funds for park projects and

Join 3MJC on a Mission!

Gateway to Nature 3MJC worked to create the Prairie Gateway at Jennings. Projects included installing a bed of native plants in front of the pillars that enter the prairie, creating the path to the bulletin board , landscaping the artesian well area, and creating a large oval bed of native plants.

Beat Plant Bullies Every spring 3MJC hosts an invasive plant pull at McConnells Mill. Invasive plants crowd out native plants that in turn support wildlife. Removing invasive plants like garlic mustard (left), autumn olive and multiflora rose gives butterflies and insects a chance to thrive.

Celebrate the Parks! Each July, 3MJC celebrates the iconic Blazing Star wildflower at Jennings by sponsoring its Celebrate the Bloom festival. The all-day festival includes guided walks, demonstrations, workshops, and local food, vendors and entertainment. 3MJC also sponsors the Moraine State Park Regatta in August and supports the McConnells Mill Heritage Festival in September.

Keep History Alive The award-winning restoration of Muddy Creek Oil Well #19 is a walk-through lesson on the history of oil drilling in the region. After more than seven decades of prosperity and forty years’ abandonment, the Muddy Creek Oil Field was rescued and transformed by 3MJC volunteers from a mess of deteriorating buildings and equipment to a demonstration drilling operation. Free tours are offered in the summer and fall.

A Home For Native Butterflies The Native Plant and Butterfly Trail is a wild garden meandering through woodlands and prairie on Moraine’s North Shore. The trail provides host and food plants for native butterflies and provides park visitors a place to learn about the region’s native plants.

Ultramarathon Aid Station Every spring the runners in the Glacier Ridge Trail Ultramarathon appreciate the 3MJC aid station at Swamp Run. Funds raised by this race are used to facilitate operations in Moraine and at Jennings Environmental Education Center.

Let’s Go Back to SchoolThe Foltz Schoolhouse is ready for some attention! 3MJC is taking on the project to restore this historic location to its former glory. Built in the 19th century and closed in 1963, Foltz was one of the last five public, one room schools to close in Butler County. Find out more and keep up to date on our website!
