expansion will include:
A Note from the Desk of Chris StinsonThis past December, I celebrated my 25th year at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation. When I first started working here, the Hospital was still doing laundry onsite, male surgery had a space on the first floor, and the mailroom and reception were located in the old Rotunda.
I had recently left Hayes-Dana Weatherhead after more than a decade of doing payroll. I had no experience in fundraising, but I was excited about the opportunity, and with two young children, understood the importance of a great hospital.
A favourite part of my job is meeting with donors who share stories of their lives and the care that they or a family member receive. Our donors understand that the Hospital, OUR Hospital, requires the financial support of the entire community. They want to know that when they need it most the care their family and friends deserve will be available at STEGH.
This year, the Foundation celebrates 30 years of supporting STEGH in the delivery of an excellent patient care experience. During this time, thanks to donors like you, we have raised over $37 million to support OUR Hospital.
I am proud to work for the Foundation and am grateful for the donors who want to ensure that the healthcare our families and friends deserve is there during each visit, at every stage of life, and as close to home as possible.
OUR 30th Anniversary In 1985, a group of civic-minded individuals from across Elgin County formalized nearly a century of healthcare philanthropy in our community by founding the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation. I am proud to have been one of the founding Directors, and to serve as the Great Expansion Campaign Chair today.
In 2015, we look forward to another three decades of community support. This year, we will not just replace our aging Digital Mammography Unit and renovate our Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery, we will also break ground on the Great Expansion of the St. Thomas Elgin General, the single largest investment in OUR Hospital since it was built in 1954.
We live in a good and caring community, and I could not be more humbled by your continued support of OUR Hospital. Thank you for everything you do!

UPDATE: Digital Mammography
This year alone, the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital will conduct more than 7,000 breast imaging exams.
Thanks to the generous support of donors like you, this year we will install a new Digital Mammography Unit, which will result in increased diagnostic accuracy, and ultimately, a better patient care experience.
We are proud to support OUR Hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality breast cancer screening to the residents of Elgin County!

My Job - started in 1983
My Family - two children
My Interests - gardening, reading, travel, and caring for my rescue doberman Nina
My Life - last November I volunteered to train a new technologist for Mammography at Inuvik Regional Hospital, NWT, so they could offer year round Mammography services to women in the remote areas of the NWT. Inuvik is the most northern fully functional hospital in the world, and it was an incredible experience

Mental Health and Addiction Services Unit• State-of-the-art technology for enhanced patient safety and security• Social hub with dining room, group activity space, and gym• Single patient bedrooms with private bathrooms
Medical Device Reprocessing Department• Located closely to key services improving efficiency • Centralized traffic flow with separate elevators for transporting soiled and clean items
The Great Expansion of the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital will transform care for the entire community.
We are building a new three-storeytower on the northwest location of our current location, which will be home to an updated ER, an expanded OR, as well as a permanent home for our Mental Health and Addiction Services Unit. Set to officially break ground this Fall, work to expand the South Parking Lot will actually begin this Spring.
A permanent home for our adult Mental Health and Addiction Services Unit will provide patients with access to care within our community. It will be a dignified space for recovery where people with mental illness gain control, meaning, and purpose in their lives.
Our current facility is aging and at the end of its lifecycle. Built for 20,000 annual patient visits, STEGH now sees over 50,000 per year. Our ER will be transformed by a larger space, better technology, and improved patient flow.
