As we come to the close of 2019 and we stand on the threshold of a New Year I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update on the three ministry emphasis we have for 2020 Ministry Emphasis 1 Implement a lifelong Discipleship Plan for all age groupsOver the last two months several staff members have met almost every week to help develop this Discipleship Plan The Plan will focus on people of all ages and is very comprehensive The Plan centers around our three Core Values Connect Grow Go and will have learning and experiential opportunities for each Core Value A significant part of this Plan is the church wide retreat that will be held at Glen Lake Camp from February 28-March 1 Registration for the retreat will begin December 1 with the Discipleship Plan being introduced to the congregation in the middle of December

Ministry Emphasis 2 Build intentional relationship with adults 18-45 Grow Younger This ministry emphasis is going to be very rewarding but also challenging Part of the issue is that we do not have a person on staff whose specific job is to focus on this area like we have with the other two ministry emphasizes So I am looking for people in the congregation who have a passion for this area I want to get the names of interested people and set up a Task Force that will research this ministry and come up with a specific strategy for accomplishing this goal If you are interested in serving in this way please contact me

Ministry Emphasis 3 Build intentional relationships in the Handley CommunityItrsquos been a year since our Church Council voted to accept the ministry opportunity to help create a multicultural con-gregation in the Handley community which we call Trinity West The people of Trinity have worked hard over the last year to help get the building ready for ministry While that has been happening the Trinity West staff team has been busy laying the foundation for the future ministry Now there are four significant aspects of the ministry that have started or happened (1) There is a weekly prayer meeting on Monday morning at 10am in the Prayer room at Trinity West Everyone is invited to attend (2) There is a weekly chapel time with the children at the Day Care Center on the Trinity West campus This has been a great way for the staff to get to know the children the teachers and the parents (3) There is tutoring each Thursday afternoon at Jean McClung Middle School which is across the street from the Trin-ity West campus (4) There was a very successful Trunk or Treat even in October which allowed our staff and ministry partners to get to know several families in the neighborhood The goal for Trinity West is to have a self-sustaining multi-ethnic congregation within 3-5 years and with these four aspects of ministry already happened we are laying a healthy foundation for the future If you would like more information about any one of these three ministry emphases or would like to serve in any way to help these three become a reality please contact me in the church office Bless youDr Dean Posey

Happy Hearts LuncheonDecember 6 | noon | Activity Center

Rev Kathy Cooper-Ledesma Pastor of Hollywood UMC (yes that Hollywood) tells of visiting family in Huntsville AL As she was driving around town she was captivated by a commercial on the radio that kept airing for a local jewelry store It went like this ldquoWomen like to receive nice gifts Men like to buy nice gifts for the women in their lives In fact men love to shop ndash but only if they have a list So to all the women out there ndash come by our store and make a list of all those gifts yoursquod love to find under the tree on Christmas morning Because remember men love to shophellip but only with a listrdquo

A few years ago I asked my wife what she wanted for Christmas I didnrsquot get an answer I kept asking until she texted me a pic of two rings she liked at Macyrsquos both on a female African American hand a week before Christmas I hate going to the mall in December let alone the week before Christmas But I had my list er my text pics So I fought the crowd and the traffic and then went to the ldquoring counterrdquo and an African American salesperson was helping another couple I looked at the picture and then her hand and sure enough it was her When she was free I said to her ldquoI have a picture of your hand on my phonerdquo She was taken aback until I showed her the picture and the ring I wanted to buy She brought it out and I looked at the price tag It was 4 times what we normally spend on Christmas But itrsquos what was on the list and so I bought it On Christmas morning when Giovanna opened the present she looked at the price tag and said ldquoO Tim I canrsquot believe you spent this muchrdquo I said ldquoItrsquos what you texted merdquo She replied ldquoNo that was another ringrdquo Sometime with a list or even a picture you canrsquot get it right

Have you ever asked rdquoWhatrsquos on Jesusrsquo wish listrdquo In Matthew 25 --where Jesus says whatever you do for the least of thesendash like offering food to the hungry or a cup of cold water to those who thirst welcoming the stranger visiting the sick and those in prison - you did for me So in a season when people are stressed and rushed short of time and temper be intentional about serving them by helping those in need allowing others to cut in line in front of you reaching out to the lonely saying a very warm thank you to those serving you in stores or restaurants And then do-ing the thing that can make the greatest difference in their lives this season and perhaps for eternity invite them to attend our Advent andor Christmas Eve services

When the Christ child looked up from the manger to see the Wise Men I canrsquot help but think he smiled just as he does when new people come seek him in worship today Make it a very Merry Christmas for Jesus this year by participating in His mission to reach those who are far from Him

On behalf of the Kairos Mountain View Advisory Council and Team of the Kairos Prison Ministry at Mountain View Womenrsquos Prison we would like to thank Trinity United Methodist Church for your prayers the dozens of cookies baked and the financial donations plus a very special thank you goes out to the TELC children who used their artistic gifts to make hand-drawn place mats for the 42 female participants of the Kairos weekend to use at their meals

The following is an edited summary of the Kairos 30 weekend written by the Kairos Weekend Leader Regina Wilcox who at-tends First United Methodist Church of Waco

Kairos 30 at the Mountain View Womenrsquos Unit was held October 17-20th and God did an amazing work behind the razor wire fence The unit was on administrative lockdown on Thursday the first day of the Kairos weekend (An administrative lockdown is a confine-ment of all the offenders in their living spaces while the unit is searched for contraband) The Kairos team was not allowed inside the prison gym for setup of the Kairos weekend until late Thursday and the 42 offender partic-ipants were not allowed to attend Kairos until Friday morning which meant we would need to complete all of Thursday and Fridayrsquos activities in the same day What an impossible task ndash we had no choice but to rely on God He of course had no problem making every-thing work just the way it should We finished every chapel time every talk had fabulous worship times sweet fellowship during meal times and ended the day with time to spare The Kairos participants our sisters in white didnrsquot miss a thing They heard every message and received every tangible expression of agape love they were meant to have on that jam-packed day God is so good

Saturday was another eventful day Our sisters started working towards forgiveness and the table discussion groups began to feel like real family They started to open up to share to bond with each other to develop community

On Sunday we presented each of our sisters with a cross as well as a Bible and they received a surprise greeting at closing from the Kai-ros Mountain View community as well as our free-world guests Irsquove included a sampling of ldquoopen-micrdquo comments to show the impact the weekend had on our 42 sisters in white

bull ldquoAll honor and glory to God He helped me with my fear I felt like a cow-ard When the prayer chain came in and when I look at all of you I see the goodness of the Lord and I donrsquot have to despairrdquo

bull ldquoToday is the anniversary of my dad passing away And I found out that I have a new father that loves me And my mom will be surprised to see how many sisters I have now ldquo

bull (This was all said through many tears) ndash ldquoI am new at this and new to Christ I never believed in Him I was angry bitter This will change me to be a better personrdquo

bull (She had to turn around to get composed before she could speak) - ldquoThis is so overwhelming but in a good way I got God smacked Irsquom here and blessed This has opened doors and relationships with people I never knew God spoke to me this weekend and I heard Him He said ldquoYou are worthyrsquorsquo I am worthy Everyone puts labels on us We should be labeled Children of Godrdquo

I will be forever humbled by the ways that I saw God move to make this weekend happen and the changes I saw on the faces of my sisters in white over the three days we were together To God be the glory

Trinity your gifts of agape love to the women incarcerated at the Mountain View Prison enabled the Kairos team to spread the forgiveness and love of God just as Jesus called us to do in Matthew 2540 ldquoThe King will reply lsquoI tell you the truth whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine you did for mersquo

ANNOUNCEMENTS

THE PROMISED GIFT

Reggiersquos brother gave him an automobile as a Christmas pres-ent On Christmas Eve Reggie came out of his office and saw a young man admiring his shiny new car ldquoIs this your car Mis-terrdquo he asked Reggie nodded in affirmation ldquoMy brother gave it to me for Christmasrdquo The boy was surprised ldquoYou mean your brother gave it to you and it didnrsquot cost you anything Boy I wishrdquo He hesitated Reggie knew what he was going to wish for He was going to wish he had a brother like the one Reggie has But what the young man said was far beyond Reggiersquos ex-pectation ldquoI wishrdquo the boy went on ldquothat I could be a brother like thatrdquo

For a few seconds words failed Reggie and then he impulsively added ldquoWould you like to take a ride in my automobilerdquo ldquoOh yes Irsquod love thatrdquo After a short ride the boy turned to-wards Reggie His eyes were glowing with a smile on his face a mile wide he said ldquoWould you mind driving in front of my houserdquo Reggie smiled a little He thought he understood what the young man wanted He wanted to show it off to his neighbors that he could ride home in a big automobile But Reggie was wrong again ldquoWill you stop where those two steps arerdquo the boy asked He got out and ran up the steps After a few moments Reggie saw him coming back carrying his little brother who was physically challenged He gently sat him down on the bottom step then sort of squeezed up against him and pointed to the car ldquoThere she is Buddy just like I told you upstairs That manrsquos brother gave it to him for Christmas And some day Irsquom going to give you one just like itthen you can see for yourself all the pretty things in the Christmas windows that Irsquove been trying to tell you aboutrdquo

Reggie got out and lifted the physically challenged child to the front seat of his car His brother whose eyes were gleaming with joy climbed in beside him and the three of them embarked on a memorable holiday ride That Christ-mas Eve Reggie learned what Jesus meant when he said ldquoIt is more blessed to giverdquo

There is no better time to give than in response to the Christ child If you havenrsquot given anything this year Irsquod like to encourage you to make an offering this Christmas And if you have please fulfill your pledge and maybe consider giving over and above it in response to the abundant grace we have received in Christ Jesus Merry Christmas

Page 3: JOIN US CHRISTMAS FUN FOR ADVENT - trinityarl.org · 1 - The family of Pat Boyd on her death on November 17 - Rev. Carol Roberts on the death of her cousin, Jim Barth, on November

DECEMBER SPECIAL OFFERING RECIPIENT
