Florence Price’s debut Symphony, the first by a black woman to be performed by a major American orchestra, and a suite by Aaron Copland from his ‘cowboy ballet’ Rodeo. The Symphony weaves a musical tapestry through these four composers in tribute to American Modernism. A gentle Serenade by Santa Barbara’s own Robin Frost; Piano Concerto in F by George Gershwin, who straddled the boundaries of popular and ‘serious’ music with his very own jazz-influenced classical style.
