CHORUSisanincredibleandrewardingexperiencethatfocusesonresponsibility,teamwork,disciplineandself-esteem.Studentsarechallengedmusicallybeyondthenormalmusicclassroomexperience.Therefore,thefollowingpoliciesareinplacetoensureapositiveexperienceforallchorusstudents.

REHEARSALStakeplaceonFridaysduringstudentsregularactivitytime.Studentshavetheirregularlyscheduledactivitiesontheotherdays.Noacademictimewillbemissed.BeforebigperformanceswemeetseveraltimesafterschoolonWednesdays2:45-3:30p.m.(rehearsaldatestobeannounced)

1:00 p.m. Meet Your Teacher Gate #3 (car loop) will open at 9:00 a.m.

In order to be an official chorus member, you must turn in a completed chorus contract and be one of the first 100 students.

SIGNUP’Sareonafirstcomefirstservebasisforstudentsin4th,5th,and6thgrade.

Wecantakeamaximumof100students-afterthatwestartawaitinglist.Ifduringtheyearaslotopensup,thenthefirstpersononthewaitinglistwill

beinvitedtojointhegroup.

Chorus Membership Guidelines:

I. Expecta*ons:

1. Behavior: • Treat others as you would like to be treated• Always strive to do the best you can do• Leave the classroom better than you found it• Follow the directions of the teacher and raise your hand and wait to be called on if you have

a question or comment

2. Rehearsal Attendance:• Before major performances we will have several after school rehearsals • Students are expected to attend every rehearsal

3. Performance Requirements: • Students are expected to attend all performances

4. Field Trip Paperwork/Fees:• Students are expected to submit paperwork prior to the trip

II. Consequencesforfailingtomeettheexpecta*ons:

1. Behavior Infractions:• After two behavior infractions the parent/guardian will be notified that one more infraction

will result in termination of membership

2. Rehearsal Attendance Infractions:• After two absences the parent/guardian will be notified that one more infraction will result in

termination of membership-Absence from school does not count towards this total-If the student leaves during the school day it will not be counted toward the absence total

3. Performance Infractions:• Students will not be excused from a performance unless he/she has a serious illness, family

emergency, or other extenuating circumstances outside their control. In such cases he/she should provide a written note signed by a parent/guardian and handed in to the director by the next rehearsal. If a note is not provided this will result in a termination of membership.

• Other exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis, so long as prior notification is provided

4. Field Trip Paperwork/Fees Infractions:• If students fail to submit paperwork/fees prior to the trip they will not be allowed to attend

We reserve the right in extreme cases to immediately terminate a child’s membership in chorus at Mrs. Sinander’s and the administration’s discretion.

General Information

Concerts:

November 8, 2018 Veterans Day 9:30 a.m. performance at Surfside E.S.December 2018 We will audition for a chance to sing at Disney Springs

(If invited to perform there will be a charter bus fee of approximately $25.00)

February 8, 2019 Volunteer Breakfast 8:30 a.m.

April 27, 2019 Saturday Backyard BBQ 11:00 a.m.

(Concerts may be added with at least one month’s notice)

Concert Uniform: ¬ Black dress pants¬ Black dress shoes (no sneakers or flip flops) ¬ Black belt¬ Royal blue Surfside Chorus polo shirt tucked in

Polo shirts can be ordered for $17.00 by filling out the polo order form. The polo will be the same as last year, so if you do not need a new one you may indicate that in the contract.

As a performing group, we need to look our best. If the cost is a strain on your family budget, please contact us so that we may be of assistance.

The uniform is required at all performances unless otherwise specified. Students will not be allowed to perform without a uniform.

I understand that if, at any time, I decide to withdraw from Chorus, my parents and I must submit a written letter asking to withdraw.

Every official chorus member will need to hand in a notarized “Out of County” formIf you need a polo shirt please hand in your order form/money

All forms must be turned in by September 12th.
